|Hello. Chrissy Boy here, back where I belong.
Send me a question and I’ll answer it.
Within reason. Nothing about “when's the next gig” please. That’s
in the bit called “gigs” on the main page at the top. If you want
to just say hello to any of us, please feel free to post a comment.
Thanks CB x
Just saying hi
great to see you put in such a good turn on Later with Jools Holland. I was saying to the wife before it started how I hoped that if you did one of the older songs, it might be the Sun and the Rain. It's one of my top 5 Madness songs, and yet I've never seen you do it on TV, and for some strange reason, you never hear it on the radio. I was well pleased when you played that one. Who gets to choose which songs you play? Actually, the radio really annoys me at the moment. You've got a cracking new album out, yet whenever they play a Madness song, it's nearly always Our House. It was just the same when the last two albums came out, and even with NW5. What are they playing at?
Thanks. I don't know -but the royalties are nice. The new album isn't really out yet. You should hear Dust Devil a bit I hope.
Agreed that Australian security generally seem to have a problem with bugs in certain orifices. Perhaps there is an operation for that nowdays?
Dust Devil video
Anyhoo...also agreed that you really do need to come to Australia and do a pub/club tour such as the 1986 tour ie: smaller crowds. May I suggest several gigs on the beautiful Sunshine Coast in Queensland? Consider it a working holiday or something like that. And this time I will most definitely not get so intoxicated that I don't remember a lot of it (one of the biggest regrets of my life that was).
I got nicked there once [Brisbane] with Thommo for crossing a totally deserted street at 3am . They popped out of nowhere. OK we fell on top of the Police car...Where we drinking with you?
I'm a little disappointed, not with the vid to Dust Devil, but the fact that some of the Nutty's out there don't like it and have been negative about it.
I think the vid has a relevant subject matter with both Winstone and Allen doing you proud, especially the former.
I don't think a song like Dust Devil requires a Nutty video like those during your early days, it would take something away from the quality of the song itself, in my opinion.
Is it not enough that you have gone back to your roots song wise, we don't need the fun videos with this album, anyway, Thommo's knees wouldn't stand the abuse!
Thanks for the support. It does seem unpopular though. The next one will have us all in and loads of gags. I am writing them already.
Chrissy said: I was thinking you grammar leads me to concur that you are either a Jedi [so smart you all were] or a jewish tailor trying it on already.
Im a ninja and i have been humming and harring (the wife hates it!) whether to go to Threadneedleman. So smart you all looked that i was sold, but you've now sent me to m&s or was that m&m's?
glad am I.
just to let you know i recieved my letter that was missing from the boxset, thanks for your help,
Good. My pleasure. Follow the instructions to the letter. To the letter.
I dOnT nO wHoT yOu mEaN HELLO X 7
yEs You DO. Yopu don'T LikE THe VideO eh?
No GuEsT List for you my son.
My very first live concert was you lot at Portsmouth Guildhall in about 1980. I was a huge fan then, and my kids love the DVDs now, they call it the silly songs!
Anyway, I am travelling from NE Scotland to the New Forest to see you at Broadlands in July, and really looking forward to it.
Well so am I. That makes two of us. Have a great time.
Me and a friend were discussing about who is the chicken (it was supposed to be a bird, but it looks like a chicken...) in It Must Be Love video. If you tell us who is, we'll be very happy.
Say hello to Suggs and Lee.
It was Woody.
No question, but cant wait til july 17th. Been madness fan 4 yrs possibly 30yrs. But in army + im not away this yr + im goin 2 madstock, only alot of boys away, who would like 2 go
Find The Watch???
Hi Chris... Just wondering did Suggs ever find his watch?!!!!! LOL

Celebrations I think!
Don't worry about that - we have got plenty already.
Greetings from Brazil
Thought I would let you no that Newbury next month will be full celebration for me getting into college! Had my interview Thurs and then got dragged into a film whilest down there, which topped off 2 fantastic days! Thanks for the support, Dan Leno really pulled it off for me! Thank god for LONF! xxx
Hey guys!!! In 2007 when I was on vacations in my bouyfriend's house in Liverpool I saw your musics ( dvd ) and I loved it, before this time I didn't know nothing about this great Band called Madness!!!! Then from there until now I am your fan, brasilian fan!!! My noivo is English and me Brasiliane, next year we will be marry, and some of your musics will play in our marriage's party :) In July 2009 I will go on vacation to UK and I talked to my noivo that I would love see Madness singing. I don't know very well where we will watch your shows, if London or others places in UK, but we will go :) Please, I would like to know if The Madness has plans to realize show here in Brazil!!!! Beijos from Brazil to you
One day we will come. Good luck with your marriage
Was just wondering ,with all this fantastic new material and the huge amount of classics , can we expect a Springsteen like 3 hour set at madstock. Now that would be a show mate.
Oh and by the way I saw the specials this week, they were awsome , you should blah a ticket for brixton. Don't worry nobody will tell jerry!
Bruce Ha! We can do that! It would take us three gigs though. Well two and a half...The Specials I will sneak into.
Hi Chris, would there be any room at Madstock for that up and coming band of youngsters known as The Blockheads?
Yes I'd love it myself. They have a quite good new album out I hear...
hi chris you where great at sandown the girlfriend loved madness too, is there any plans for it too be screened on tv ? i dont think the wife would like it if she spotted me with her best mate anon..
Jool's & such!
I have the tapes. I have your real name. Brown envelope with money in to Victoria station ASAP.
1. I loved you guys on the Jool's Holland show, you all looked very handsome :D
2. Where's Chas' Basement gone?!
3. Johnny the horse... Are you playing it at the Gatcombe Park gig? Cyahh in 2 months and 1 day! xx Leah
1. Thanks - it was the BBC make up dept. really.
2. Chas is in the M section.
3. I doubt it.
Was that Helen O'Hara in your string section last night - if it was she appeared to have a long red wig on (I used to be in a band with her and wondered if she was still playing)
No. Well I don't think so.
Hi CB. Been a fan since '79 and I can honestly say that in my opinion you're sounding better and "tighter" than ever. Absolutely superb performance on Jools.
I was wondering if you'd ever considered touring at smaller venues? Maybe covering a larger area of Britain but at smaller arenas/theatres/halls? I know Oasis did it to celebrate their 10th Anniversary so I wondered if you guys might do it for your 30th (Oasis came to Hull hint, hint, wink, wink).
Thanks so much too for answering my previous questions, the time you give back to the fans is fantastic and greatly appreciated.
Thanks. smaller gigs not at the moment. We only do buses.Top deck.
Thanks for everything Chris. Pleasure to pipe for the mini Madness band during the day and also for the full bhoona Madness at Inverness St....it felt like home!!! Nice to blether with you on the tube and all the very best 'til we meet again.....shaushage, shcrambled egg, fried shlice.....two rashashsss....Brillliant!!!
Regards and best of luck,
Dear Mishter Bond
I thank you fer two rasssssshhhhhherrs too.Nice to travel with you but not all the way ye ken? It's a long long way.
Just seen the video of 'Tarzan's Nuts' live in Australia on MadTube! Please, please, please keep this in the set for Madstock. Falling that 'A Day On The Town' would surely be an appropriate tune for the day.
Camden Fri night
Any chance of Madness doing a 30th anniversary of 'One Step Beyond...' gig and playing the full album live. Loads of people would love to see that!
Nuts should be in the set I think. A One Step concert also could be possible.
You guys rocked Inverness Street last night! Unfortunately, I only found out about it at the last minute due to working away but I watched from the other side of the bus (and was grateful that you all turned round at some point!). Met Chas outside, he's much shorter than I imagined!
Great Your Back
Anyway, rock on, hoping to get to Victoria Park :) Charlie
Dear Charlie Thanks. Chas is two foot taller than me.
Cart before the horse.
Great you got your message board back, I've really missed you.
Enjoyed the O2 gig last December, another 4 half hour journey, but you guys are worth travelling to see. You said a lot more and what you usually do, great to see and hear.
I'm really upset that I can't make Madstock as I will be on holiday in Cyprus then, although I will coming to Stroud.
Tell Woody I said good luck in the London marathon tomorrow and perhaps you could donate the 10 missing from my liberty of Norton Folgate box set for me!!!
Take Care my Friend
Thanks.Of course I will I gave Woody some money already.
I know the new single isn't even out yet (good choice, clever idea for video and excellent exposure on Jool, by the way) but, as everyone else is putting the cart before the horse I thought I'd suggest my idea for a further single. 'On the Town'. I think it's a great song anyway but, what with the 30th Anniversary of 2-Tone and all that, you would appear to missing a publicity trick if you didn't make the most of a duet witha former stable-mate. Don't you think? I've nothing against Lil Allen, Gwen Stefani etc but Rhoda is great and she's perfect for that song.
Crystal Palace Bowl c 1981?
Tthe big E
Dear Big E
I could not agree more if I tried. So I won't.
I wonder if you can help me with a vague memory. I was about 12, BIG Madness fan, Mum took me to Crystal Palalce Bowl to see you. I think Ultravox and a few others were there..Depeche Mode maybe?
People were swimming over to the stage and chucking water at you all and I think you had to stop and tell them to pack it in incase you got electricuted or something.
I got all your autographs on a poster that day, except Suggs who was nowhere to be seen, BUT my Mum (to my immense shame)had to get one of your roadies to fetch Suggs outside because he was backstage and in a bad mood and sulking about something. Anyway, nobody messes with my Mum. Roadie went and got Suggs, she demanded to know what he was sulking about and got my autograph then gave him a telling off (he said "Sorry Mum") I nearly died. Fair play to her though.
Anyway, just wanted to know exactly what year it was, is '81 right? Googled it but can't find anything. Did I imagine it all???
Looking forward to Madstock. Got my gold circle tickets!
I remember that gig. Tenpole Tudor was on. He was brilliant. He had a fishing rod and he had attached an old boot to the line which he fished from the lake. I also remember a kid perched on a pole. Thommo threw him a Madness t shirt in such a way that he had to jump off the pole to get it, thus getting soaked. Good old Thommo.I just did a search using Tenpole Tudor + Crystal Palace and also found this on Madness Central:
June 13th 1981 - LONDON: Crystal Palace Concert Bowl - Garden Party Festival
Attendance: 7,000 (capacity; 15,000)
Line-up: Our Daughters' Wedding, Tenpole Tudor, Polecats, Newtown Neurotics, Ultravox, Madness
In good tradition, Madness end their world tour with a homecoming concert. But what should've been a finale becomes a slight disappointment. The £8.50 ticket-price and tight security put off many festival goers with the field nearly half full. Bad reviews appear in the press suggesting that Madness aren't a festival band. They spend the next few weeks writing new songs before flying to Nassau to work on their third album at the Compass Point Studios.
There you have it. I think bad tickets sales, plus the fact that some our fans were drunk and very badly behaved, is why Suggs was in an [uncharacteristically] foul mood.
just wanted to inform you that I made an annoucement on the dutch radio about the new album. I requested something from Madness via sms, they called me back, I got my 20 seconds of fame and requested something from Liberty of Norton Folgate. They played 'Baggy Trousers'. It was 3fm.
Just thought I'd mention it.
Is Baggy trousers on it over there? ha ha Thanks for trying anyway. I don't think we have sorted out a deal in Holland yet.
Hello chaps... just wanted to say how brilliant you sounded on Jools Holland this week. Dust Devil sounded amazing and it's now constantly going round in my head!! Nice one lads. Keep up the top work.
Dear Mr. CB
As can be heard on Overture of TLONF and also at the end of Africa, the brass and string band plays the main title theme, is there any chance to listen to the full version by "the band"?? May be it can make it to the M section...
All the Best (yes the box set made to argentina!!)
Mr. Paul B
Sadly the quality of the recording was not good enough to use. I am so happy the box got to you eventually.
Hi CB, Just watching Madness on friday show had a great idea for an album title for the next album or greatest hits "Keep `em coming" that came about as Madboo and I was talking about each song. After the su & the rain I said as suggs usually says "Have we got time for another" then I said "Keep `em coming" Brilliant performances from you all. Roll on when The Norton folgate film comes out on dvd or any channel on tv that doesn`t have adverts
Have a good nutty summer.
I will bear that in mind.....
Dust Devil not out yet. And everyone is talking about what the next single should be. Well, i'm going to throw my penny in. As you know Alfie Allen. What about getting Lilly Allen to sing On The Town. A sure number one.
PS: looking good on Jools Holland in that white suit. Dont follow through, it will show :)
Be good old timer
She was asked to sing on it I think and didn't want to. I think Rhoda is really good myself. I'd just leave it at that really but I'm sure some bright spark will suggest Lily Allen or Gwen Stefani is another favourite.
inverness st has never looked so happy and I dont think I have had so much fun in years. Thank you all.
Thank to you as well. It takes two to tango.
is he still around? he used to be good freinds with my farther .cheers mate
I dunno I dunno.
Standing ovation first off for the fantastic new album...blimey it\'s GOOD!
My question....who's the burper on Benny Bullfrog!
Keep on doing what you're doing lads...your timeless!
Thanks. The burper was Thommo of course.
hi chris bought 4 gold circle tickets in feb from trinity.I have a confirmation email from them but i do not have any from new handlers is my purchase still valid or do i reclaim money and re purchase.I cant get any answers from anyone.I await some info thank you.
They were not due to go out till June anyway. You should be getting the tickets is all I can say. If you were on Trinity street's mail out then you are in the system. If you have not tickets by mid June start to panic and contact us.
it's really good to hear you saying that you all don't plan to pack it in any time soon.
I think I can speak for all Madness fans by saying we'd be heartbroken if you ever called it a day (it was a big enough worry when you left the band for a bit). There will always be good bands around, but none will ever come close to being as special as you lot. Not even The Specials.
I've almost worn out my iPod with the new album.
I thought you'd set the bar very high when you put NW5 out, but you have managed to keep that standard up right through the album. It is as good, or better, than anything you've ever done. You should be proud of yourselves. We are proud to be Madness fans.
It's hard to pick a favourite, but the unbelievably high play count for "Rainbows" on my iPod must answer that question I suppose. I hope you play play it live over the summer.
Thanks thanks thanks. When heard the songs I came back. With Rainbows I hope we do too.
Run & Boxset
I constantly annoy my brother by playing Madness 24/7 (he's into modern dance music etc.) He said to me the other day..."the only song that would ever get anywhere in the charts these days is that Elysium song"
My question is...do you agree? If not, how do you rate the song?
It nearly was a single. I think it's a great song. The guitar's too quiet though and the keyboard line is too loud.
Tell Woody to have a great run on Sunday.P.s.Great Box Set finally listen to it all, hope there more to come.Keep up the good work.
New album and such
OK Bris thanks
Love, love, love the new album. Love the new site layout as well. I've been a fan since 1983. Wanted to know how you felt about our new Prez here in the states Obama. Can't wait to see you guys in L.A. again!
Dust Devil VIDEO ??
I think he is truly the best US president for a long time. I had a tear in my eye on his inauguration.
I THINK IT WAS SAID OF MADNESS THE VIDEOS WERE BETTER THAN THE SONGS I DON'T AGRE WITH THAT YOU WOULD WATCH A VIDEO AND THINK YES I THINK THE ONLY VIDEO I DON'T LIKE IS THE SWEETEST GIRL BUT I HAVE JUST WATCHED DUST DEVIL IT LOOKS AS IF YOU HAVE ATTACHED THE CAMERA TO A SHOPPING TROLY WATCHING A DRUNK DOES NOT INTEREST ME SORRY BUT I HATE IT LOVE THE SONG
Is the caps busted on your computer my man?
chris, you got to beg, steal or borrow a ticket ,they are in top form, very enjoyable night.
Right then that's it Brixton here I come.
Love your guitar sound
Firstly, thanks for the great show you boys put on in Perth at the V-Festival. I saw you guys back in 1982 over here and it has certainly a long time between drinks! So to my question(s):Will you be coming back sooner than later?
And will you grace us with your Norton Folgate set or are we a country that only gets your greatist hits?
I don't know. I don't do the gig booking. When we did a longer set we did a few Norton ones. At the festivals it was about 30 minutes shorter but still really enjoyable.
Love your guitar sound
hmmm good question.....no subject
Question: When's the next gig in Los Angeles. Gotcha! Actually Chris, I've always admired your guitar style. I am sure you've always felt restrained. I am more of a guitar band guy, but Madness is the exception and I always felt the way you played was real benefit to the band. Surely, you do your guitar solos at home! Hope you and the boys make it back to LA.
Thanks. I try to sneak in a few loud bits here and there..
Just like to say thanx to u and the rest of the band. In my 40's now and I've had a great time following Madness from Edinburgh in the early 80's, Madstock in the 90's, and ffs ur all still goin strong............QUESTION:- How long do u all think u can keep going? anyway well done Nutty Boys cos yer keepin me young lol ;-)
Thanks. We will carry on as long as we can.You keep us young too you know. It works both ways.
just want to say that the brand new album is wonderful !!
all the tracks are great and the toe rag is a great studio for the Madness songs.
"Mission From Hell", "One Fine Day", "Sugar and Spice"... and one of my favorite "That Close " !
i think "That Close" could be the next single !!
The Box set is genial !!
all the best from France
Merci. We will come soon.
I want to know alot about Madness
I live in America, and i fell in love with "Our House," i thought Madness were a one-hit wonder. I know they aren't, but that is it. who makes up Madness? And your Favorite Songs?
I would recommend Divine Madness to start off with then get all the Madness albums. You should be able to get One Step Beyond and Absoluteley on Sire/WarnersHowever it's hard in the USA and over here they have all been deleted for a while. Our favourite songs are Tamla Motown BlueBeat Island Invicta Chess records any old soul reggae pop Roxy Music Alex Harvey Ian Dury I ain't got all day buddy - we love it all fron the 50's onwards event he 30's 40's
what do you think of new bands that are obviously influenced by you guys.
such as ska/hip-hop band SWAGGA who mix ska with rap and have done reworkings of OUR HOUSE and EMBEARRASSMENT the latter containing a couple of rapped sections with the "embarrassment" having their' say back?
I like it. There was a really good one by Kid Britain a while back. We get asked for approval you know.
hi,as as an M member can i get cheaper gold tickets for madstock
Sweetest Girl video
Yes well that was the idea but I think there are none left now.
Hi Chris, where was the video to Sweetest Girl filmed? It looks like some sort of Victorian power station. Cheers.
Correctomundo or water station. I think I don't remember where though.
The Dangermen vol 2 ?
Hiya Chris,if i wanted to send an e-mail to you what address would i use
Well I got this didn't I?
dear chris just been listening to the dangermen vol 1 (a very battered copy because its been played so many times)and wondered if you were planning vol 2.i realise you ve got the new cd comming out and all that intails, but can i say vol 1 is one of my favorite ska cds of all time.
the liberty of norton folgate
cheers thanks for your time.tony
There are no plans but we had some good stuff left over. One of the tracks is called Roadette Song and it will be on the b side of Dust Devil.
the liberty of norton folgate
Hi Chris great performance on Jools Holland by the way.Can I ask but is this great film of Norton Folgate gong to be released on dvd by any chance cause I would love to see it .
many thanks Bazza.
It will get some sort of release soon.
Dear chrissy Boy
I am a 19 year old nuttyboy and proper love the band as do my uncles etc.
My question to you is ...
What do you prefer the fans to wear when they come to the shows ?
you get a wide range from casual to suits to skinheads.
Whats your favourite ?
Mini skirts and hot pants. For the lads. Oh gosh anything comfortable and good for jumping around in really.
are you guys going to be doing sandaown this year? it was an excellent,
I took a coach load last august mainly racing fans rather than music they all loved it stating it is the best days racing they had ever been to.
Thanks for passing my email on to your team re the boxset was a great help i have it now, well worth the wait top class.
Glad you got it. Sandown I don't know as I say IF IT'S NOT IN THE GIG GUIDE - THEN IT'S NOT IN THE GIG GUIDE.
Hi Chrissy Boy
HOW MUCH LONGER?
My husband will be 40 on 5 June and I wondered if it would be possible to get a signed picture of Suggs for him (or all of you, but I don't want to be pushy). He's his total hero!
thanks a lot
from the 2nd biggest Madness fan ever.
This is a bit unlikely. Tell him happy birthday from me and it's all down hill once you're 40.
Hey Chrissy boy,
its James here! i've been loving your music for years, gonna see you for the 5th time at Victoria Park! But I just wanted to know how much longer are you planning to keep on going! It always worries me the thought that soon your gonna hang up your instruments! Please tell me this will never happen!!!!
It will never happen. Suggs wants to go on till he's at least 80. He told me that the other day. So I haven't got long to go then.
So smart you all were on Jools the other night, where do you get the suits from?
Hackney Empire Film
Well mine was from M and S. Linen. The trouble is five seconds and it goes all sort of creased and floppy [like me]. My wife said it did me no favours ha ha. Bedders Ace Face Suggs just had his made Thommo probably Oxfam or War on Want he is getting a bit upmarket these days. We all get stuff from all over the place really. I was thinking you grammar leads me to concur that you are either a Jedi [so smart you all were] or a jewish tailor trying it on already.
Will the filming at th Hackney Empire be available on release as my son is apparently on it with his inflatable sax signed by Lee?
Dust Devil - Julian Temple
Is he called Owen? If so, he drives me nuts. He asks me loads of questions, though they are quite funny sometimes. The film will be available at some point either on TV or DVD.
What's going on round here?
Just visited the IMDB (dot.com) and found out that Julian Temple is doing the "Liberty" project. 2 questions.
1. what can you tell us about it and 2. Is the Dust Devil clip a small part of the big picture (which makes the video in my opion a lot more understandable).
All the best !!
You already know far more than me.The video is not connected to Julien Temple.
Hey Chrissy Boy What is happening round here lately?
ENJOY YOURSELF! IT'S BETTER THAN YOU THINK!
Where has Chas's Basement gone? :-(
And why are you and Chas having "domestics" here in the cupboard? :-(
And why are all the "fans" bitching and moaning about the Dust Devil video - even though it's a great song and cool vid?
Have I accidentally wandered into the wrong dimension of reality or something?
Chas is now moved into the M section. I didn't notice we had been having domestics in here. Have we?
spoke briefly to phil jupitus after the specials comeback gig at newcastle tonight. Said to him that Folgate was the best album since Keep Moving. He said "I was just saying the same thing to somebody last week". Enjoy yourself it's better than you think.........
Good old Phil.
hi chrissy boy
am looking forward to newbury and madstock( 46th and 47th gigs), and hopefully a xmas tour later!.
anychance of negotiating the specials to join you at madstock. im seeing them at brixton. but would be the ultimate gigi with you both on the same bill. hope youer all good after oz, take care
You have seen 45 gigs? That's nearly as many as me..Thanks
Hi, I need to take a break from asking you questions but me and my dad were just wondering how often the m section will be updated and have new pics, vids ect
Video Dust Devil and Box Set
There is no specific plan for how often it will be updated. I'd suggest checking every ten minutes. OK I'm kidding. I just did a fab film at Jools Holland and that will go on there sometime soon.
Hey, saw the video dust devil...and yes, that's state of the art, even if i've expected something different ! Box-Set is great, arrived in Germany, got one for me, myself and i, and three more for presents ! Everybody was impressed. Coming to London for Madstock. All the best Daniel
What can I say? Thanks Danke schone etc
My 6 year old son is driving us mad by playing the Divine Madness Album non-stop in the car (he found the CD whilst I was spring cleaning and liked the cover picture). He is also watching the dvd every evening whilst wearing sunglasses and using a toy golf club as a microphone.
Is there a cure? I mean congrats for out-doing the Nintendo DS and Xbox Lego Star Wars but it is..how shall I put it...driving me to Madness
This is good. He is 6 so he will soon want our videos t shirts etc. It could be worse it could be some death metal band. Also it's better than playing video games that for sure. That's what my kids like...
Bringing Madness to the US
I'm Sian from Perth, of Lee/tits repute.
Firstly, I was only joking about the "Lee sign my tits" thing. Honest.
I was just trying to grab your attention cos I know you must get millions of letters every day Mr Fix it... I mean Mr Boy.
Secondly, thank you thank you thank you sooo much for coming to Australia and making so many people happy. At Perth alone, you made even non-Madness fans really happy, so imagine what you did for real Madness fans all over the country. And I mean all over the country. I took 3 days off work and drove nearly 700kms to see you and you made me and my daughter very happy, I must say!
Thirdly, thank you for drawing Thommo's attention to my "Liberate my Folgate, Lee" banner. That resulted in him wiping his much-saught-after facial and underarm sweat onto his towel and chucking it to Me. Yes, ME. (swoon...!)
Fourthly, You look so God damned cute in that bowler, you God damned cute thing, you!
Filthy, do you remember I had a banner saying, "Autographs Pleees!"? My daughter threw it to Lee during NBTC, and he walked around with it draped over his head.
After you guys left the stage, a nice lady behind me told me that while I was looking at Chas, Lee signed my banner, told a bloke (cameraman?) to hand it back to me, but the guy threw it into the crowd behind me instead.
When she told me this I surged back through the crowd like a mad woman, but couldn't see anyone holding it, loving it, and cherishing it, like I would. I kept looking until we left, 4 hours later.
Sixthly, Do you remember I showed you an envelope with "Cathal" written in red, and I was pointing at Chas? Inside was my son Carl's message to him. I asked a bouncer to put it on the stage for me, but he said, "That kind of thing is not allowed". (fkn parcel bomb or what??) So I threw it onstage just as Chas was leaving.
Being only a light parcel bomb it fluttered up in the air then fluttered to the grass in front of me. A bouncer picked it up, put it on the stage, then a roadie put it over near the drum kit.
D'you think maaaybe some really nice roadie passed it on to Chas?
Seventhly, and most importantly, thank you for coming back, Chris. Not the same without you.
First of all if the tits thing was to get my attention it was at the end of the message you know. We need that towel back. It is band property. Yeah bowler..right...flattery will get you..Sorry about the signed thing there you go, at least he tried. As for the bouncer, that is one thing I noticed in Australia they are [mostly] a right pain in the a** and too uptight and strict. thanks for the thanks.
Greetings from Wisconsin!
I'm a high school history teacher here in the US, and I've been introducing Madness to my students (One Step Beyond is this year's logo for my European History class) and my children (ages 5 and 3 who LOVE you guys, my 5 yr old son knows the intro to One Step Beyond). That said, will you ever come play in the Midwest here in the States any time soon? PLEASE??!!
On a different note, I played sax for a long time and I was wondering if it was possible to order sheet music for the sax to your songs?
Regards, Jason Knoll
Thanks for creating another generation of Madness fans, it is greatly appreciated. Madness sax sheet music I am sorry to say is not available. You would have to transpose it from the usual sort of sheet music. I'm sorry to ask this stupid question myself -but have got a relative called Grassy?
Up at Gatcombe Park on 26th June can't wait to see U all - fancy a few beers x
No, I just said 'm trying to cut down.. Tequila then.
Fancy a pint by the lock?
I'm trying to cut down. How about a half? Of Vodka.
If you hadn't become a top axeman what walk of life would you have enjoyed?
Something a little more laid back I think.I honestly can't think what though.
Nutty Girl from Melbourne
Question: Hey CB, Where would you recommend visiting in Camden Town, say one sunny Friday afternoon/evening?
Is there still a market in Inverness Street or is that all empty now?
I'd suggest popping down there about 7pm tonight.
Box set / LONF film
Just wanted to drop you a line to say what a wonderful bunch of down to earth guys you all are! By pure arse I met Lee (no one recognised him!!)at a Melbourne Pub about a hour before the Palace gig. We got talking and he said if he saw me in the crowd he would get me up on stage. Well true to his word he saw me and I got to dance on stage with you all - I\'m still buzzing!!! Then to top it all off after a magnificent (and emotional - I was brought to tears!) gig was getting to meet you all back-stage and getting photos, autographs and drinking "free piss"!!!
Then I met you all the next day again at your hotel to get my "F*ck Art Let's Dance" T-shirt signed by you all and given tickets to the Melbourne V-Festival - Amazing!!! Then I got to do it all over again at this gig and get VIP back stage!! Fuck Me!!! NB: note to oneself: Next time Chas drops the texta and you go down to pick it up and Chas pipes - "while you''re down there!" - take up offer!!!
I can't thank you all enough, especially Lee(even though he may think I'm a freakin 'stalker!!!!. But as I said to him at the pub, my life is pretty much now complete - I'm married to my best friend of 20 years, have two beautiful kids, have had the awesome pleasure of seeing Joe Strummer of the mighty Clash live in concert at the Corner Hotel, Manic Street Preachers live in London and now this. It has been 29 long years in the waiting (I'm 38 years young!) but I've achieved my dream of finally seeing you guys live in concert and then to get to dance on stage and meet you all personally - wow - nearly and I say nearly - as good as an orgasm!!!
Give my love and thanks to all the guys - especially Lee. Make sure he looks after the Merc trilby we swapped during the gig (I've got his $2 Cotton-On cap - lucky me!!!) and also the Collingwood Magpies Beanie I gave him. Go the mighty Pies!!!
You all are beautiful people and I hope you all come back to our shores in the not too distant future!
Love Roz xoxox
P.S Sorry if I crapped on....
hi there love I thought you were about 19 years old myself till you told me your age. Nice to meet you. To meet you nice.
Hello there Chrissie Boy, haven't spoken to you for a while, trust you are well.
Revenge is sweet
First and foremost, a huge thank you for the boxed set of delights. I've not been able to part company with it since I received it. However, on more of a serious note, just to forewarn you (should it happen again) that my home phone number was also on the address lable on the box!!! Wasn't happy at first but, but put it down to an oversight....mistakes do happen!
Saw the screening of the LONF film last Friday, nice to meet with the great man Suggs, Woody (absolute gent), and the Legendary Monsiuer Barzo, whom I have always wanted to meet. But stupid me got soo tongue tied as I wanted to tell him how much I really liked his piano playin on 'Mission from Hell, but it came out totally wrong! Anyway it's f#in superb!! Has a Motown feel to it.
There are some absolute corkers in there, Dust Devil just seems to get better and better on every listen...thought it sounded great on Jules Holland programme btw!
Anyway, thought the film was fantastic, brilliantly put together, but so glad I saw it on the big(ish) screen, it made my evening...well worth the visit especially after shi-ite day at work.
Looking forward to hearing your version of the Roadette song.
Trying to blag a day off to come and see you guys at the Camden Crawl this Friday, so if I wanted to see you fella's I dont need a ticket, am I right? Hope to see you there or there abouts....whereever you are playing.
Your number was on the box? Slack. At least you got it anyway. We will be in Camden from about 3pm some of the band are busking everywhere. We will all be in Inverness Street from about 7pm.
7 piece madness
Delighted to hear news that Suggs got an opportunity to give Steve Coogan a slight taste of his own medicine on a TV gameshow in Oz. Suggs was on the winning team and I am told is seen to be mouthing ‘loser’ at Coogan in the closing titles. (For the unenlightened few; Coogan made none too pleasant remarks about Madness in his Saxondale DVD commentary). Anyway, I am still awaiting Madness’s proper response to Coogan’s outburst, it would be far too mature to simply let the matter pass unchallenged.
Of course the obvious answer would be to simply slag Coogan off in the commentary on a future Madness DVD, but I know you wouldn’t want to stoop to his level. As an alternative, next time you play Brighton, maybe you could advertise the aftershow party as being around his place...or, slightly more subtle, perhaps your next video could randomly cut for a few seconds to a picture of Coogan on a dart board complete with 7 suitably placed darts? I do think it’s the perfect time to act, the tabloids love a spat between celebs, and faced with the choice of Madness or Coogan, I think it’s clear whose side they’d all support! Revenge may be unhealthy but is surely satisfying???
That's all a bit childish isn't it?
alright chrissy boy i know you always seem to have additional brass players every time you play live these days but are there ever any plans to go back to the 7 piece we all know and love like the good old days? The 1st Madstock is perhaps the best Madness gig ever (my 1st) and you just had lee and chas on horns and it sounded perfect.
anyway, what do i know? im just a drummer :o)
This is unthinkable. They owe me money at cards. MOT will have to get a brass section, that's all.
Excellent performance tonite. Lee's sax playing was spot on for both songs. But then again you all were. What other songs are included for Friday's extended version of the show?
Thanks. Its..Er...Forever Young, Sun and The Rain and..Clerkenwell Polka?
I got all confused. You film the one hour show then you do the live one straight after which goes out live..
hey im fifteen and love going to scooter rallies, my dads a skinhead and has really gotten me into the ska/skinhead/mod scene, would you ever consider playing at a scooter rally?
This n that
We have never had a serious enough offer. Suggs has got a scooter though, so he'd be up for it.
Writing this as I watch Jewls Holand! Can u say happy bday to Mike for me please. Also wicked show I'm so pleased your putting the new stuff out there, really am! I'm even more excited for next month! xx
This question may have to do with the old times:May I ask what kind of guitar did you use on your jingle-expanded-into-a-song "In The City?" It really goes well with the piano and I have to say that both you and Mike (oh and Mark) were masterminds on that particular tune.
Fortunately for me I also have a case of synethesia which makes the song all the better for me. Did Mike play two keyboards at once during the recording?
Thank you very much,J.C.
Thanks. I just looked up Synesthesia. Wow. I'm sorry I thought you had made the word up. Very interesting. The guitar was a Stratocaster which was modified with a Kahler whammy arm and I got the pick ups changed too. I can't remember what to. I used a mesa Boogie amp. Mike he only plays one at a time in the studio.
with a lot of the old 2tone bands back on the road any chance of dance craze2
Where's the basement
Not that your section isn't great but were's Chas's basement? Got problems with the site? I'm in the IT buisness, I can fix it.
Tell me please
By the way I would've chosen 'on the town' as the first single, but then again 'dust devil' is also good. Why didn't you choose Liberty of Norton Foolgate, that song has masterpiece written all over it, change of rythm, style, etc!!!
Wish Woody luck this coming weekend and a speedy time.
It's hard to pick the right song but we are getting on the playlists. Chas has moved to the M section.
I'm a bit lost. I'v been over seas for 2 weeks and all i read about when i got back, is The Liberty Of Norton Falgate film. What film? Can you give me some info please CB
PS: love the new stuff :)
Be good old timer..
It's a film of the Hackney Empire shows made by Julien Temple.
New record and Tour
Any chance nearer the time of a timetable to show when each band comes on and on what stage, don't want to be looking the wrong way.
Not yet. But I could do with one myself.
Video - Dust Devil
not a question just a comment.
As someone who bought all the early Madness records from day one, just thought I'd say how chuffed I was to hear about the new album coming out. I shall also try and finally catch you live after all these years, hopefully at Newbury races.
At 41, with job, family, mortgage etc it is easy to forget to have a bit of fun in your life. Relistening to Madness' back catalogue has brought a smile to my face and reminded me just how many bloody good times in my life you guys have played the soundtrack to.
Anyway, forgive the ramble, just wanted to say good luck with the record and tour.
Yeah it makes me smile too sometimes. I just heard some old stuff we did and it was very nice. You ramble on my son and thanks for the support.
Re; VJF rant about video.I think video is ok, anyway who cares about promo videos these days, surely it's all about the music- & the quality of the Folgate album speaks for itself.Radio stations need to be e-mailed/ text by all us fans , asking for it to be put on their playlists. As Chris points out -it 'aint 1979- ,the video 'aint as important these days , and i never purchased a song on the strength of a video anyway.
Thanks. I meant it's not 1979 we don't have to be in the videos jumping around these days. OK-I was in Australia so was Thommo and Mike was in Katmandu. If we had been around I might have come up with some funnies and we would have been in it a bit more, but I think it's really good as it is.
The cup final
Question: Hi Chris, ask Suggs if he can get me a ticket for the Everton end :-)
Who gets to decide which tracks are released as singles, as in my opinion the strongest tracks on the last few albums have not been released as singles, and i am not sure dirt devil is worthy of release either.
The TV Show that never was
We all do.Sort of. What are your favourites?
I've heard that you once recorded a pilot for TV show, written by Ben Elton and Richard Curtis. Something about Thatcher going back to Mars and Madness being elected to run the country? Are there any copies of that lying around? I'd love to see it.
Chas lent me a copy of a copy a few years ago. I would like to get it in the M section or something at some point.
Is there any chance you could give a clue to what venue/venues you will be playing on Friday at the Camden Crawl? One more thing Chris, why isn't SORRY on the new album?
Invernss street Camden town 7pm plus all over the place busking as well. Sorry was a bit too er old.
On the town
Is there still a 10 per ticket on Madstock tickets if buying the boxset? I can't see it anywhere but thought I'd still ask.
re: Camden Friday - Will details of this be up on the M section??
They have all gone I think. See you tonight about 7pm Inverness street.
Hi Chris, was just wondering if the intro to On The Town was intended to sound like that of Del Shannon's 'Runaway,' or is it merely coincidence?
T'interview f 't'specials website
You are the second person to ask me that his week. No. It's just the same notes in a similar style.
Hey up mate
Did you move house?
Did I ask you if you would do a small interview for the specials tinterweb site with questions posed by the forum members?
If you say so.
What happend to Chas's Basement? Did the band move to a sh*tty flat. hahaha
This is a no swearing site. Chas has moved a bit upmarket to the M section.
ahoy ahoy mr foreman,
Listen To Your Father
i hate to beg but..my good lady wife helps raise money for candles which is a cancer research organisation in lincoln. they are having a charity ladies lunch on the 15th of june where they are hoping to raffle various trinkements and curios to boost the coffers in this worthwhile on going war. i know it is very cheeky to ask but could you and the boys possibly donate the odd well worn sock or some such item to help?
I'm sure we can.
Hi again Chris - thanks for answering all the questions. Did the Maddies play on Feargal Sharkey\'s Zarjazz single - and was there an album planned?
Yes we were playing on it. We had no plans for an album.
Hi Chris. Can I first say what a privilege it is to be able to write on this site. I first saw you in Cardiff when I took a coach from Plymouth when I was 15 around '93ish.Then again a few years ago in Plymouth Pavilions, absolutly amazing!!Also hoping to be able to go to Victoria Park. Well, I went to see a Madness tribute band which to be honest were good . Though At one stage they upset me, all because I requested Wings of a dove! Anyways, guess it serves me right for not putting my money into seeing the real deal!!Hope you are all having a great time. Best Wishes along the way xxx
BADGES, VIDEO ETC
Thanks. As for Wings of a Dove-we do it.
Thanks for the reply about my lost badge, shame i can\'t buy a replacement, I was looking forward to getting admiring looks from jealous commuters.
Love the New Vid. Its just a shame that the bloke Jamie is talking to in the Pub just before the Vocals kick in, is off screen and not in it. I did sign a release after all....!
Good luck with everything.
Paul aka Jefed
p.s. who is 'Bringe'?
Are you really in the video? Come on, this is a wind up? you must know who the Bringester is. You are on Madness Central I think ...and you knew about Jamie being in the video..
Question: One more thing.. What happened to Chas' basement?
He has moved it to the M section. It's a nicer area I suppose.
I just saw the Dust Devil video and though it was a tad confusing and a shame not to see the band, I don't think it's your worst video, however the girl in it is very easy on the eye, who is she?
You can keep the ladyboys, I live in Bangkok so I can do without seeing ladyboys in Madness videos cheers very much.
Regarding my last question, I'm pretty sure you once toured Japan, is that correct and how was it? Did you see..CENSORED
Oh, one more if I may, the disc 2 from the boxset that everybody's been raving about - can I buy it on the i-tunes store? I'd like to hear that 'Hunchback' song.
She is called Jamie Winstone. I had to cut that bit ourout nay more and you will be sent to the sin bin. The extra tracks will not be on iTunes for the forseeable future.
box set - australia
Question: Hello Mr foreman ....
1.Do any of the band have tattoos ?
2.What do you make of fans who have Madness tatts ?
Chas had one done years ago in La. A man with a top hat on. He might have changed it I should really know that shouldn't I?Fans with tatts well it depend where the tatts are. A spiders web on the face usually induces a quick swerve from me. Unless it's a really nice girl...
hi Chrissy, me again.
i live in melbourne (still recovering after an amazing show in melbourne at the Palace - who were those girls dancing at the end?)
Thanks. The girls were er Lee's cousin [I think] and a girl who we got up on stage. Is the box set there yet? If you got that e mail they must be sending it? I have sent your mail on to our team.
Of course my country is out of the world tour... But anyway... hope to see Madness live in Argentina once again... How\'s Lee doin'?
The Dark Ages
All the best,
Mr. Paul B
Same old same old. He went to hospital yesterday after doing his knee in climbing a lighting rig in Aussie.
Okay, Chris. Back to a question I asked a while back regarding what might get included on a new anthology release. You said no to The Madness stuff. Is that era being disregarded because it wasn't the full 7 or do you not like the material? It seemed to me to be a case of really trying to distance yourselves from the past in some ways but then other parts of it sounded really much in keeping with past glories. I particularly liked Thunder & Lightning, Song in Red, Beat the Bride & 4BF. In fact, I remember you playing 4BF on the Mad Not Mad Tour in 85 (Manc Apollo). I wondered if demos by the band proper exist because I thought there was quite a lot of good stuff on that album. It also amazes me that Suggs reckons the Mad Not Mad album was a polished turd (quote from Uncut) because I thought some bits were quality, although I concede to feeling there was some overproduction in a typical mid-80s stylee! And you were trying too damned hard to be serious!
Dear Big E
Personally, I always think Mad Not Mad is our most dated album. We wee in a state of flux Mike had left and there was lots of drum machines and so on. The demos that lead to The Madness had Mark and Woody on and some of them are OK. The ycould maybe see thelight of day some time. Suggs hates that quote.
DUST DEVIL A DISSATISFIED VIDEO CUSTOMER
next year will be the 3rd and final year of my M.A. in Music. I want to do it on Madness. Please may I have the band's blessing with this and ask one thing.
Would any of you be prepared for an interview (by post/email/in-person or whatever is poss). I'm thinking about next year really. i thought as this is your 30th year and Ive been a lifelong fan I owe it to you guys to produce the best work poss
What do you think?
I'm free. Email?
I've just seen the video for 'dust devil'...what the f*ck was that all about? It's utter rubbish and has nothing to do with the song, nor indeed MADNESS.
For a band who always prided themsselves on quality vidoes, (however low budget they were back in the day), this is way below par. It surprises me that after the Sorry and Dangermen debacle, a band who have more than redeemed itself with the Liberty of Norton Folgate album, would allow this to be released.
In ways I could see the point with NW5 video, a quick easy live compilation video and the fact that it would hardly get any airplay by music channels anyway made sense. Even the Sorry video, a basic enough 'performance video' was understandable, but this new one just baffles me.
Are the band's management trying to make another dreadful attempt to be 'hip' like they did with the release of Sorry? Do they envisage heavy rotaion of this video on MTV TWO? TMF? or Bubble Hits or something with this 'Smack my Bitch up' tribute video?
Come on lads, 'Dust Devil', although not my favourite track on the album, was the most likely single and desreved a far better video than this, or failing that, do a 'Girl' (why don't you?) on it and make NO video.
Sorry for the rant, but i bloody love this band and hate to see sh*te like that linked to the Madness legacy.
The Sorry video yes well, it was a right sad one. In NW5, I wanted just the stuff we filmed in Los Vagueness [which was really good] to be used but it turned into a sort of compilation of our gigs with no rhyme or reason, just bosh bosh bosh. I took my eye off the ball and that's what happened. I rang round the band moaning and trying to re edit it, but none of them were that bothered till maybe later, when it was too late..
I think the dust Devil video is brilliant myself. Well I would do, it was my idea to do a video with a boy and girl in it and none of the band. You are well wrong, I think it's got EVERYTHING to do with the song, it's 2009 not 1979, the subject matter of the song dictated the content of the video. Thommo hasn't got the legs to do drag any more. Depending on the next choice of single, I'll direct it and it will have all of us in it and be funny with jumping around and wacky stuff.I recently looked at all our old videos and they are not as great as you think you know, there are a good few duffers in there. As for hipness, some TV shows are refusing to show Dust Devil, because Jamie is saying....naughty words.
Will The Liberty of Norton Folgate film ever be shown on TV, or even get a DVD release? I would sure love to see it, as I don't live in London and couldn't see it last week. It'd be great if it was shown on any of the BBC channels the weekend before the album release, that would be perfect promotion wouldn't it?
Yes it would. Hopefully all these things will happen.
Hello Chris hows things? Is it worth me the wife and a few freinds getting up early this Friday morning , getting to Camden and having a little wander round? Or will we be left dissapointed :(
All the best
That all depends. I'd leave till a bit later if I was you.
Could The box I'm still waiting for( if it's not late) be without pepperoni and with anchovies, please?
Thank you Eduardo
Have you still not recieved it?
KILDARE HYPES THE SINGLE?
1. In a song On The Town (The Liberty Of Norton Folgate, 2009) echoes SOPHIE ELLIS BEXTOR ?
2. Whether the concert in Russia is planned?
Funny you should say that. When we were recording the Dangermen session she was in a studio next door and we asked her to sing on er..I can't remember what song it was..but she was too busy. Russia yes we will come comrade. Have the Vodka ready..
Hey CB I've got an idea. You give me 50,000 and I'll go out and buy 14,000 copies of Dust Devil. It'll shoot to No.1, get heaps of airplay and increase album sales dramatically. And some of the money will find its way back to you! What do think?
OK then. Start with ten copies that you buy yourself.
Elcome to the House. I did notice the chorus was spliced in each time, just not the dropped W. That said, they're better fitting cuts than the one that blunders in near the end of the Los Palmas single. You mention I Feel Fine/She's A Woman - surely Paperback Writer/Rain is a fine combo? Why did Dave Robinson drop Victoria Gardens as a single?
This is becoming a regular occurence. I picked those songs because they were one of the first singles I ever had. Dave Robinson was never wrong really. I don't know why.
SORRY! U AND UR 6 SIX MATES ARE WHAT I WANTED TO LISTEN TO WHEN MY BROTHER WAS STATUS QUO N MEATLOAF FSAN ? IVE GOT ALL OF UR NORMAL VINLY AND BEEN TO UR CONCERTS BUT NOT ENOUGH

I'll most prob walk the streets @W.City & Camden anyway
Come on down to Camden on Friday and we will be there.
Dear CB ..Plse links below & let us know your comments.
Speechless as usual.
all the best CB
Hello again Chris, thanks for putting my mind at rest about the tickets I booked through Trinity Street, I can now look forward to seeing you in July. I'm going to see The Specials in Birmingham on 26 April, would be amazing to get to see them twice this year if they are at Madstock too.
SCOOTER - CAMDEN CRAWL?
Might as well ask another question seeing as you very kindly answered my first one: What is your favourite Madness single, b-side, album track and song that you have written yourself?
B side Town With no Name
Album track Madness [is All in The Mind]
I can't thank-you enough for agreeing to sign the my Vespa.
I've emailed Toni Tye several times but I met for the first time last night in Coventry (18th April), she's exhibiting her work at a gallery at the Cabin Basin, she is really looking forward to the Scooter being done and will be over the moon that you have agreed to sign it, she has, also, agreed to sign.
I also met the author Pete Chambers, 2-Tone trail, as you may have heard, he is trying open a 2-Tone muesemn and wants to borrow the Scooter and use it as an exhibit for a couple of months your signtures will only add to the Scoot.
The guy who will be wrapping the Scoot, Sean of Creative FX, said he wants to get Scootering Magazine involved with this one because of the link with Miss Tye, she will be there to sign before it is laquered, probably a photo op there for the mag, if the band would like to take the same opportunity you are more than welcome to join us, date to be arranged around everyone who will be attending (London area) otherwise I will be more than happy to bring the Scoot to you as mentioned in my last message.
The reason for the Scooter being done and all the publicity is my Daughter. Danielle has Cerebral Palsy and we're hoping that we might be able to use the Vespa in raising funds for Children with disabilities.
The Vespa should be done sometime this year, therefore, I was wondering if there was a way of contacting you rather than doing it via your cupboard as I can get in contact directly.
Once again, I am humbled by your gesture, thank-you and good luck with your 30th Anniversary celebrations.
Any chance you can get down to Camden this Friday? It doesn't look likely, but I have sent your details to our management so they should be in touch. We have a got a few gigs on this year so if you can make it to one of them, I'll get the band to do it
al the best CB
Are madness only onstage at madstock for 37 mins? If so, why? You can't fit it all in that space of time, you could prob do a max of 15 songs
We will be on for at least 90 minutes. Who said 37 minutes?
Yes I did get the box set which is great by the way. Does that mean I don\'t have to panic?
would love to hire madness for a children charity event in may 2010 any interest email me
Can you contact us using the contact details on the home page. There is my cupboard then to the right Chas's basement then contact. Click on that, as it has our management and agents details. They should be able to assist you. Let me know if you have any probs.
Hiya Chris,I'm maybe being a bit thick(nothing new there)but I can't seem to find how you can become an M member. Can you give some info.
Sorry to be all commercial and greedy business like, but at the moment to get in the M section you have to buy a box set. They are brilliant and have many uses. Look at this
Thanks 4 the good luck CB.
I may send a photo of the work after I have created the Limehouse Golem! Been told I will b going to c u at Newbury this year which is brilliant and will b a celebration if I get into either of colleges I want or my work course! And I like many others have had a golden ticket brought for me for madstock n havent heard nethin!
They should be with you in June.
hi there chris
just to say the box set is magnificent and really love the songs i know you are a massive fan of the beatles what is your fave song by them and who do you like out of todays bands.
many regards mark.
Dear Mark A lot to choose from. I'd say "She's a Woman/I Feel Fine" a really early Beatles single I had when I was a kid.
Re H.... that would be Hugh :)
Just went on my Myspace and found out its Mike's birthday on Tuesday, Wish him a really happy birthday from me, to say he is gunna' be 51 he ante looking bad! I'm gunna have the best birthday ever cus of you guys and i hope Mr Barson has the best birthday aswell.
Speak soon. Leah xxx
OK I will try to remember that.
I sent an email regarding box sets to trinity but it just said they had ceased trading
Ps- that was a reply from my previous message
OK did you get your box set? If the answer is yes then you should also get you tickets in June. If not then panic.
Hiya Chris Its Shannan (Again) Really Sorry To Bother You But I Was Wunder What Your Most Emmbarrasing Moment On Stage Was ???????
DON'T QUOTE ME
Facing the wrong way whilst a bit....refreshed
Elcome to the house... I actually didn't notice that on the cut, but I did notice that the I'm sorry sir... section has got more treble than the rest - was this track a mixture of recording sessions or mixing sessions? As it turns out, I checked out the track on a Technics 1200 (Mk 2 of course) which I was surprised to find sounded better than a far more respected turntable (ye olde Garrard 301 if that means anything to you.) Anyway why was Don't Quote Me On That issued as a promo? Was it considered as an a-side?
Dear Mike you wha..? Didn't notice that the whole chorus was spliced in every time? Don't Quote Meon That was an extra track on the Night Boat EP but we really liked it so did a promo version.
Hi Chris, I was wondering how a Madness single is chosen (nowadays)? What factor are considered? Is everybody in the band involved, just a couple of you or maybe just the A&R guys? Cheers.
PS. Dust Devil is a good choice IMHOB!
Well that is the 64,000 dollar question.
I saw the Norton Folgate Film premiere at the Coronet last night.
Were you pleased with the film that Julian Temple made?
Well I was very harsh on it when I saw the first rough edit but it's great now. What did you thinnk of the sound?
Is the 'hunchback of torriano' still doing the rounds?
Love the new stuff. All the best, Dagenham Stu.
I really don't know if he is..
Bonjour et good afternoon, Mr Foreman.
Just a quick shout, as I finally received the special edition box set of the new album.
Having given the two "main" CDs two listens so far - it's a truly great album, well worth the wait (hey, what am I saying here?!?). Totally agree with you - there isn't a bad song among the 22 on the ltd. edition. Good thing the standard edition won't just have 10 tracks as your manager wanted.
Looking forward to more gig dates (Cork... Dublin... anyone?) so maybe I can manage to see you guys a second time (after the then-Docklands-Arena in 2002).
Thanks. I'm glad you like them all.
Hi Chris in addition to my previous question about Madstock tickets. I can see that others have asked the same question and that they are due to be sent out in June which is great news. But in answer to your question to the others.. no emails have been sent out advise us of the situation. There is no telephone number for AEG live and when you email them you get no reply. So this is why people are panicking so much I think!
I have sent this on and hope to have some news soon.
Chrissy boy do you and the lads think the POUGES will turn up, they may turn up but i will put money on it that Mcgowan will do a disappearing act of somekind, there a great band and all but he will be locked.
DUST DEVIL VIDEO
rainy night in soho - great song
PS chris do you know of any websites for MADNESS TATOOS??????
GAFFO IN DUBLIN
I hope they turn up. Madness tattoos - I don't know if there's any sites - but any good tattooist should be able to do one if you have a good design.
Just heard on the radio the new fab single Dust Devil and Johnathan Ross said it was a great song and you know what he is spot on .Will there be a video to go with that great song?all the best Chris from your loyal fan bazza.
Yes the video is great, it's got Jamie Winstone and Alfie Allen as a lovestruck couple. It's in the M section of this site and will probably be all over he place real soon.
Chas' Basement Question: In answer to a question:
As regards the writing of songs. I write on piano and guitar and usually i then go into a programming suite and record a demo which I then give to the band. So that my vision is as clear as possible. Of course the beautiful thing that occurs once all the band rehearse it and their characters seep into the music is that it becomes a Madness song.
Pour into large room with audio equipment and add 7 men from North London. Leave to play amongst themselves for an hour or two and voila!
I also like to give music every now and then to Suggs, usually when he has heard a piece I may be playing on a piano which catches his ear and for him to then write lyrics to. It is always interesting to see what he comes up with. I was particularly pleased with the lyrics to MKII which I thought were emotively spot on.
Because I seem to spend a large part of my time writing I am involved less than I used to be in writing lyrics to other band members music (although Woody still sends me his demo\'s which every now and then an idea leaps to mind)
Sometimes a few songs go out and a Murder of Maddies( three or more Madness Members congregated or involved) all write to it. That is exciting and happened some years ago to a tune which Chrissy Boy had wrote and I and Lee and I think even Suggs had a go at and after some years has found its perfect lyrical expression in That Close. I love the lyrics and it represents in my mind how we relate to each other as band members.
So I am here in Ibiza to finally pull out of my head all the words and feelings which I want to express and I am pretty productive and therefore ...
I have a large bloodied and battered chest full of words, music and poetry buried on the Island of Ibiza which the location of which is at the present moment is.....longtitude and latitude at a leter date me hearties....
peace & light
Bit worried about my Madstock tickets booked 2 x Golden Circle on first day of sale via Trinity Street. Trinity's web site say that AEG are honouring tickets but there is no contact number anywhere on line for AEG and they don't respond to emails. Any idea's if we will definately get them?? Cheers Helen
They should be there by June.
Hi there my friend, thanks for your concert,my first gig in years, had to be my Madness Boys. Hope to see you all in a years time,as you answered to a previous question of "when are Madness doing their own tour of Oz. Will be in contact soon. Thanks again, your biggest Fan Kerry.xx
We may be back next year. Who knows?
love Chris XX
People are selling Dust Devil on ebay already.I've preorder all 4 from the Madshop.Going to preorder the album soon.Keep the music coming.
DECO HAS OUR LUCKY TOWEL
Thanks but hold on, I'm not buying my own flippin record. How much are they?
MATT IS SEEING THE SPECIALS
I FEEL COMPELLED TO WRITE TO YOU JUST TO SAY HOW FANTASTIC THE NEW ALBUM IS.
I heard many of the new songs played at the Tripod in dublin last year(on both nights )and was lucky enough to capture them all on video..(thats right I was the freak with the camera up to my face all night).
I first seen you guys at the S.F.X IN Dublin on the Mad not Mad tour back in October 85 along with the Friday club on both nights also.
I still have a cassette recording of that gig ( inc radio interview with Dave Fanning )
Madstock in July will be my 11th Madness gig and I'll be there with my youngest son wayne who's 14.
Just like the countless legion of loyal fans you have, Madness have been both a passion and an obsession over the last 29 years for me.
Once again I thank you for the fantastic musical journey that is T.L.O.N.F.
God bless you all.
P.S tell chas i got his towel in Dublin last year ( what a treasure )
Deco from Dublin
Thanks for all your fantastic support and now your son is a fan, what more could I ask? Except for the return of Mr Smash's towel as it is band property. It was our lucky towel.
Hello Chris hows things? Just got back from The Liberty Of Norton Folgate premiere at Notting Hill. What a great film you've got on your hands, really well put together and hopefully available on dvd some time soon.Nice to meet some of the band there to,Suggs(had a little chat got autograph and photo taken, but seemed like he gets this a lot so was a little same old same old) Mike (got autograph and photo, seemed very nice but a little reserved)Woody (got phot and autograph,an absolute LEGEND had a good chin wag and wished him well for his marathon!)and if that was not enough who else should be there flippin JERRY DAMMERS!! (got a photo with the great man!) Didn't tell him I was going to Brixton to see the rest of the Specials though but it does mean I will see all of them this year! Shame I didn't get to meet you but hopefully next time
All the best
it's OK - I will tell Jerry you are seeing the Specials.
Love the new album especially Hunchback of Toriano, Africa and Idiot Child..
I am 40 this year, have so far booked Newbury and Stroud...will try a few more...have grown up with the music of madness, puberty, Time in Armed Forces around the world, love, death...just always loved the music!!
Here to many many more years..
One day I would love to buy you all a pint or two, just to say Thanks for everything..Jim
Thank you too.
hi chris, i saw some songs written by suggs, lee, and mike. did you ever write a part of a song?
Oh yes indeed, in my youth I was most prolific. The best part of a song I ever wrote was the chorus to House Of Fun.
Re: House of Fun edit. At the risk of looking stupid it strikes me that there are many edits in House of Fun rather than one. I'd say there was one immediately after drum opening and pretty much one every section change, possibly even mid verse under the vocals as there seems to be a hint of a timing issue. Am I right?
Yes that was an obvious one and you have passed the test. Did you spot the massive one in the chorus? ......elcome to the House of Fun
hi chris how ya keeping.me and 3 mates come to most of your gigs wembly 02 newmarket and they get better every time.one thing we always talk about is why dont you ever play cardiacarrest live.just wanderd if you could answer that qeustion for us cheers.we got our tickets for madstock see ya there
It was in the set once a long time ago, then it just sort of faded out.
Hey Chrissy Boy, Love the new album. CD 2 is as strong, if not stronger than CD 1. The band should try to do some promotion in the US. Maybe try sending a few box sets to college radio stations. Might generate some buzz. Just a thought.
Thanks-we are on that I think. Not sending box sets though!
GIG GUIDE FOR ALL GIGS
Thanks for passing on my query regarding Norfolk Madness tickets, and apologies for it being so abrupt and impersonal!
PS Will you and the lads mind playing live at my funeral, date TBA? :-)
Not at all. Can't sort the caterers though, you will have to bring your own sandwiches. I don't know if I got a reply yet though.
Hello Chris! Nice to see that Madness are headlining Electric Picnic in September. I know you hate being asked about gigs as it says above, but when you're in Ireland, how about popping up to Belfast for a gig? You gotta admit, it was a bit good last time...
Yes it was. However as I say, if we play in Belfast it will be on the gig guide on this site [and probably a few others].
PERTH AFTER SHOW DISGRACE
i hear you guys are playing the Electric Picnic festival in Co. Laois ireland in September, have you guys been to this festival before (no to play just to listen)?? or have you guys been to the middlands before....its going to be an amazing festival!
I heard it's very expensive to get in. I should hope it is.
1. did you know that perth is so boring?
2. if so, could you please come back soon (ie. big day out \'10).
i have waited 23 and a half years to see you guys, please come back!!!
love anita mosquita
Well I had a fantastic time after the gig. I can't remember a thing. Beer+Wine+White Russians. Can anyone help me out on that one? Did you see a drunk old f*rt dancing somewhere?
Hi Mr. Boy,
Will the back catalogue be available in the boxset format? I'm pretty certain that I'm not alone in buying them if they were. Especially if there's a disk of out takes and demos etc. Maybe a page out the Bob Dylan and Led Zep stories and releases for some of the better bootlegs? Just a thought.
Still loving the new album keep it up.
Thanks the box set idea is a possibility we are considering.
i booked my madstock tickets when they first went on sale on this site, before the layout all changed in january. i know the delivery compmany went bust so wil we still get tickets?
TICKETS IN JUNE
The tickets should be sent out in June. Where you sent any sort of e mail about this?
hi chris again , well i have phoned aeg, ticketmaster about my tickets that i brought from trinity street direct ltd who have gone bust , i dont know what to do know .pls could you get back to me pls
Calm down. The tickets should be sent out in June. Where you sent any sort of e mail about this?
DRAKEY'S GIG GUIDE
the box set is terrific and its been really exciting to hear such a great new Madness LP. Can not wait for Madstcock. Also I wanted to check how we can get to see you play on the Camden Crawl? thanks, Richard
Thanks. The Camden thing is so top secret that I don't even know what it is. I think Barso knows all the details.
Just wanted to say hello and thank you all for the new album, the box set is fantastic, i have played it constantly, at home in the car at work...i am a 1 man advert! The album is just brilliant. I luv On the town, thats got to be a single, love We are London as well, thats got to be the theme tune for the Olympics!!
Been a fan since I first heard you, for me it is now...ahem 27 years...and gettin my box set cast me back to opening my MIS pack..so thanks for that..an instant flashback to being 12!!
Am desperate to go to Madstock but might not be able due to work(how dull!). Is there any chance of you playing further up the country, maybe even Scotland so your northern legions can get to see you play the new stuff?
Thanks for the advertising.I don't gig guides but in your case I can say we have nothing planned and watch the bit that says gigs on this site, subscribe to the mailing list and all other types of thing like Madness Central and Madspace and so on.
No question just a thank you for the tour of Down Under I was lucky to see 3 shows... QLD, and Melbourne twice.. Fantastic shows. Got some GREAT photos, and video :)
I will tell you that standing next to some young girls at QLD they hadn't heard of you until the V fest list came up. They did a google on Madness and LOVED it so they stood at the front with us. You have some new fans it was so good to see.
I also meet H outside the gates in Melbourne and had a small chat, while he was trying to watch a set of Kiser C.
Recived the box set while you were still here, IT'S fantastic love it like everyone does...
Will the CD be put out in stores or is it only going to be on the web?
Looking forward to your next trip. Lets not make it another 23 years OK
CD should be in stores in May. Who's H?
Just wanted to say I can't wait to July 19th (yes, I meant to say 19th and not 17th). A gig in the East Midlands? Woo! If you've had a hand in arranging that Chris.... then, thanks.
Plus it's so close to August! (the time I thought would be ideal for a gig ;) )
Any chance of 'M' members getting a discount on tickets? or that for 'selected' gigs only?
Of course I did...M members discount! I don't think so on this one..
Hey Chris love the box set. Just wondering if you or any of the others will be enjoying one of "The Specials" 30th anniversary Gigs. Made my year this has with Specials gigs and Madstock within a couple of months. Would be great to see a Dance Craze 2 sometime too.
Yours most thankfully Mike
I hope to go and see them that's for sure. They were really good on Later. Sad about Jerry though.
dear Chrissy boy (240 EURO)
just found out your playing in IRELAND in september "f*cking brill"tickets for the gig go on sale tomorrow 17th april only to find out you can only get weekend tickets rather than daily tickets at a price of 240 euro a ticket "robbin b*stards" not you Chris, but the organisiers.
Dare i ask why MADNESS are so involved in festival concerts rather to there own show.
the SFX,THE POINT,DUNGANAN ICE BOWL ETC all of them venues seem to have the personal touch to a true MADNESS fan, i personally love that atmosphere when it happens although if nothing changes regard pricing to this gig i will still go,proberly concredites this e-mail.
sorry about this Chris, its in the heat of the moment,
thanks for listining Chris,
will see you soon either way
GAFFO IN DUBLIN
I'm sorry about this I can't lower the tickets price. I will ask if it's possible to get day tickets though.
Hiya Chrissy Boy. Its me again :D
I get annoying sometimes, but i'm abit (alot) obsessed!
Ive got a question, it will probably be a no, but i might aswell ask! The Gatcombe Park gig... Its my 13th birthday on that day and seen as i am coming and traveling so far just to see you guys live for the 3rd time, would it be possable to have 3 Backstage passes for me, my ma and dad to meet you, it would meen the world to me seen as i have been a fan since i was 5. Its just a question and hopefully i will be able to. I undertsand if its a no.
Love you all so very much :)
I don't think we can do that or everyone would want one. But happy birthday anyway [on the day].
Hello chris how you doing? Will the back catalogue be extended editions of the albums when they are reissued? i.e. B-Sides,demos and live tracks.Maybe even a dvd?
All the best
Yes, they will have extra stuff that's for sure.
im Danilo from Serbia, just want to thank Madness for coming in my country. My all-time favourites will come here, i still cant believe. Just wanted to say that, whole Serbia waiting for you, legends
Thank you again, Danilo
Well it was about time.
Hi Chris, love the new website, just been reading through the band's history, really interesting and I learned lots of new stuff even though I have been a fan from the beginning.
On a serious point though, I have just realised I booked my Madstock tickets through Trinity Street so what exactly is the position? Will they be sent to me or have I lost all my money? Hope you can put my mind at rest.
Thanks. OK here is the latest on the tickets. You should get them by June. This was always the case as far as I know. Where you e mailed to this effect?
How can i find you at the camden crawl!!!?!?
You will, trust me.
I just recovered from your Adelaide gig, I hadn't had so much fun since you played here last. Thanks for a great show.
I'll feel better after a fag, a beer & little lie down.
Thanks. Have one for me.
Can I be really cheeky and ask for a special card or mention from you guys for our wedding on 7/8/9 hubby took me to see u all at the O2 at xmas and I had a great time, we\'re also having a tribute band (one step behind) at our wedding. We are also coming to Madstock in July.
Yes you can. Good luck 789 I like it. You should get married at 10am 789..10
How do you lot pick your intro music at gigs, Ive always enjoyed the build up too you actually walking on stage. I think Ive founhd a great peice of music you could use one day, its by Joe Meek and the Blue men called "entry of the Globots", has Madness written all over it.
The current intro music is some mad stuff Bedders had. Joe Meek song yes maybe..
I'M CATCHING UP!
Just had the brilliant box set, cant wait for madstock!
Keep skankin Jon
21 TRACK MIND
Could you use the awesome powers of axecam to film the Q&A seesion on Friday, for us fans who cannot get there as they are busy visitng baby 2nd cousins or similar hold-ups?
yours in faith
I am catching up. Was that yesterday? I was not there otherwise I would have.
John P Justyn
What came up in the discussions the band had about the number of tracks (& which tracks would feature on) The Liberty LP? I ask coz I've invested in the BOX SET & (Gosh!) it sounds good as a 22 track double album! (How'd you guys cut it down to 15 tracks?)
You'd be surprised. Some wanted less songs. Our manager wanted 10! Well one of them did. I of course wanted them ALL on the CD. We agreed to have the 12 downloads plus [of course] NW5 and Africa. At some point in the future I would like to do a double CD with everything on. There is not a duff song amongst the lot if you ask me.
Mr. C Boy. Regarding Jade's Amber Vs Rhoda 'On The Town' vocals. I give Rhoda the points here. Jade hit the nail on the head when she said Rhoda's voice sounds out of place...isn't that one of the points of the song...somebody out of place? Would you say hi to Whitney Yang from Taiwan? I took her to see Madness in Manchester, December 2006. She had never seen anything like you guys before. Spreading the word in Taiwan ...!
John P Justyn
Thanks.Please keep spreading the word..
Last time I saw you in Newcastle I was frozen at the bit! "Any one out there from Cramlington?" I nearly lost my load, How does Chrissy know my home town? It wassn't my Husband who shouted so I know you have family!!! when wil you do the ciity hall again- give me at least 2 tickets (they will pay £100 )per person make it worth your while I saw you there 4 times and Madstock make a 40 year old rude girl very happy
My Mother in Lur lives there so we go up every Christmas. I have been in the Blagdurn Urms yer knaa
JERO HE'S THE MAN SO HE IS
Hi CB. I see that some classic tracks have been released for the Singstar game and was wondering if any Madness songs will be making their way to the Rock Band or Guitar Hero games.
Time to dust off my fez and loafers and throw somes Suggs & Chas style shapes for Singstar. Be great to be able to chuck in a few legendary Chrissy Boy moves into the mix at some point.
Do the band play video games and if so which ones?
Cheerio old chap. jeetee
So far we are only on Singstar. Video games? I just got a PSP with Lara Croft, Silent Hill Origins er and some other old cobblers.
alright chris ..just want too say the new album is magic from start to the end, i would like to thank all of the band for the last 30years. the album,s just get better and better..love africa..and hope one fine day is a single or that close..all the best for now..your old mate from dublin town.jero
Thanks hope to see you soon. Your myspace is still hacked. You need to change your password.
Hi Chris, I had great fun reading the history of Madness in the 'about' option on the website, but I was stunned to find that the gig you played in Paradiso Amsterdam is missing from the list. I think it was around 1982, the one where someone stole Chass's hat with the S on it. I had stayed after the gig to take pictures (actualy I was taking a lot during the gig and got Suggs and Bedders attention...on camera). Chas had a beard, which made me think of growing one myself.
I still consider it one of the best gigs I have seen by any standard and believe me I have seen many a band play life, many since then. I remember trying to talk to Mike after the show and he only laughed. Continue doing what he was doing. Got a picture of him though and Bedders and Woddy walking out. Missed my train, loaned a geezer 100 guilders to get home (which I never got back) and had to pay 100 myself for taxi to get home. Oh those were the days...hahahahaha
Say hi to the rest of the guys and happy touring. See you in Berlin and Madstock.
Sorry for that omission. I just went with whatever I could find and that must have slipped the net. Great Venue.
A BIG THANKS TO MICHAL GLEESON
Hi Chris, Do you still have one of those gramophones? I dont,(its's all downloads and technology i don;t understand these days you know), but i still wouldn\'t want to sell off the vinyl version of 'liberty', in fact i still have vinyl copies of all your original albums,7 inch singles (including some picture discs), and 12 inch singles and i wouldn't part with them either.
P.S my daughter sent you a message and is disappointed you aint put it up on these pages , yet mine are on here all the time, so can you say hello to Kate, cheers mate, see you at Gatcombe Park.
I've got a Technics SL1200 and I dig out my old vinyl every now and then and discover long lost gems Oh La La by the Faces being one of them. I answer the questions in chronological order and I am still miles behind so I have just answered you daughter's one.
Dear Chris, have you lost my address again?!
I am too lazy to send you anything, even a card. Sorry, I will do it one of these days.
Will you be there on Friday for the premier of your film?
Probably not. But don't let that put you off...
Hello again CB - A few posts back someone wanted to know if any singles would be released off disc 2 of the Folgate box and suggested THE KISS. I agree and also think LETS GO would work as well. Who knew Madness could rock like that(I did!!). As far as the official album, just about anything could be released but ON THE TOWN & WE ARE LONDON are sure bets. Terriffic job and please come to America. (I'm gonna keep bothering you until you do)
Thanks.Keep on and we might come.
I noticed that a lot of the madness songs are written by mike, Lee, Chas and Suggs. I was just interested to know do they bring a finished song to you guys and you just play it or do they bring a long an idea or a half-finished and you basically all write the song?
I'm just curious lol.
Good question. It differs. Chas and Mike usually have a very clear idea of what the song should be like. However, this can often change quite drastically. The best example I can think of is "Africa" which is nowhere near Mike's demo.Thommo well can't really say he does mostly lyrics these days.
HELLO NEAVE'S DAD ANDY
Hey Chrissy Boy,
I gotta say, I love the new album, especially hunchback of torriano! Will it ever get played live?
I flippin hope so. Watch out if we do I shall not hold back...
sorry but i just left you a question saying could you leave my dad a comment but i forgot to tell you his name. it's andy. once again loveing the songs.
Yes. I noticed that.
hi chrissy boy. i dont know if this question is 'within reason' but i'm trying to find sheet music for the saxaphone to the madness songs and i can't seem to find any where to get them so could you point me in the right direction?
also my dad loves sca music (and madness) and he's the one who introduced me into sca so could you put something in your reply to him please. he will be exstatic =]
There are no sax sheet music books for Madness. You will have to transpose the normal ones. Hello to your Dad from me.
hi Chrissy ! been a fan for more than 20 years, i saw Madness my 1st time in Argentina (2006)
it was really great. And now my 2nd will be in Berlin (June 5th) and the 1st. time for my husband !!! thanks for playing in Germany finally!!! did you or anyone remember something special from the gig in Argentina?
love Madness for ever Lilian
I can't recall a thing about Argentina. I was not in the band at the time due to illness. I was sick of them all ha ha. They got really good and I came back just in time. They said it was great in Argentina though, really great fans. Barso got some great shoes, he wears them onstage.
Hi Chris, what did you think of Japan? Has to beat all this childish nonsense in Bangkok.
(Madness ambassador to the eastern seaboard)
No - we went to Australia.
Loving the new boxset. Just a quick note in answer to a previous question. You did do a boxset round about the time Wonderful came out called The Lot which had all the original 6 albums and if memory serves me right, I think each disc had the videos from the singles on too. Anyway, enough of that. Im looking forward to Madstock. My children are both over the moon they are going as it is the first time they will have seen you guys live, and the fact they go free is an added bonus.
Thanks for pointing that out. Have a great time with the kids. Please but them lots of merchandise to compensate for the free entry...
all the best CB
ONE STEP BEYOND EDIT?
hi chris been a madness fan for 30 years my mate took me to the o2 in dec for my 40th fantastic night considering we stay in fife what a trip .hope you can keep touring forever .when are you coming back to scotland cheers gaz
Thanks Gigs? Who knows laddie? I don't do the gig guide.
Re: Michael Caine alternate 12" version on MIS. Yeah - it did have the My name is - Ha Ha - Michael - Ho Ho, etc. but so did the released version. The unreleased one although longer was a much blunter edit almost like an early prototype for the finished piece. For the record I love the second section of the One Step Beyond 12" - I didn't realise they were considered as one piece which is not great (as I believe you said.) More lively mix though. Which reminds me: apparently the main body (i.e. not the Hey You! intro) of One Step Beyond is apparently an extended edit of a shorter track??? I've been an audio editor in the past and as a result can spot some edits a mile off - not this one. Do you know where it is they are?
It's funny you should say that. Can you spot the edit in House of Fun? OK that wa you starter for 10. One Step Beyond Dave Robinson always says it was one minute long and he edited it to make it longer. However the mighty Chas intro is 30 seconds or more for a start and the melody Thommo plays goes on for quite a bit longer without repeating itself and there is a solo section as well.. There may have been some repetition at the end phrases. But it is one of those myths.
Hey Chrissy Boy I Was Just Wundering Who In The Band Has The Worst Bad Habbit And What Is It
P.s Im 14 And Think You Guys Are Amazing Please Keep It Up
Thommo. He drinks my drinks onstage when I am thirsty and he also spills them as well which is even worse.
The vinyl LONF on ebay has been sold so i have no idea how much for, there is a cd version for 9.99.Also anyone who thinks Dust Devil deserves to be a hit - text/e-mail any radio shows you listen to and ask for it to be played, i sent texts to every dj on radio 2 and steve wright played it today .
I thank you very much for doing that.
Dear Chris ,
When The Liberty Of Norton Folgate gets released in May , will there be any record signings . Those were the days of queing outside Tower Records at midnight to get my copy of Madstock and meet my favourite band of ever . Sorry got carried away . Also when Dust Devil gets released will there be a big push , take over a few radio stations that sort of thing ?
All the best , Barry .
I think we will be in HMV signing sometime while Thommo and the lads get the truck round the back...
The big push is on. It's up to them play us or The Saturdays.
Coventry's Cheekiest Charmer
Your new single is brill cant stop singing it .any chance you can come to Aberdeen aecc again .
My stag do is the weekend of 17-19 Jul. We're debating wether to do the London or Nottingham gig. Any word on the line up for Notts yet? Will you be on stage longer in London? Do you think it will make much difference which one we attend? (I'VE seen you 13 times, and the other lads coming have all been before)
Coventry's Cheekiest Charmer
Dear Coventry's Cheekiest Charmer

Hi Chris, it's me again still no news from anyone about my Madstock tickets, there for our 10th wedding anniversary, so are a bit of a big deal. I'm sure other people are twitching as well any chance of a definitive statement from AEG or someone that all us nutty fans are going to get something for our hard earned we gave to Trin-titty Street.
I am right sorry. You did get the box set didn't you? Please can you hang on a bit longer...

IAN B QUESTIONS
is there any chance of madness + the specials getting together for a summer show
PHILS BOX SET
Am loving the new album, and really enjoying the tracks that weren't part of the download at Christmas. They're brill.
Couple of questions:
1) Why did you change the female vocal track on "On The Town"? The CD version is quite different to the download.
2) Why did you rearrange the order of songs from the download?
1]I don't know. Rhoda was the girl in mind but Amber had a go as well.
2]Smoother running order.
3]er.. that's it
EDUARDO - BOX SET
Still not received my boxset boohoo. Have spoken to customer services and I'm now waiting for the 28 day rule so they can send me another.

Sorry.I hope you get it soon. It will be worth the wait.
Hello from Spain, Chris.
I am one of the first people who ordered the Boxed Set and maybe the last receiving it ( if this ever happens). I tried to contact with email@example.com several times but they never answered. I´m getting desperate, reading everyone saying how great this boxed set is. AAAAAAAAGGGJJJHHHH!!!! I want MINE.
Thank you Eduardo
I am beind in my replies.I'm catching up now. I'm on the 13th of April. Did you get the box set yet? [17th April]
THOMMO DIVES IN
alright boys hows tricks if i was to ask for your autographs would you send them me please
No we can't. Sorry.
Hi Chrissy Boy!
Went to the gig at The Palace in Melbourne and it was without doubt the BEST CONCERT EVER!
Such an amazing atmosphere. Everyone jumping up and down, singing along, hugging, dancing, skanking. There was a lot of love in that room.
Seemed like you guys in the band were having lots of fun too? How did you find all the Aussie gigs?
Hope you all enjoyed yourselves.
Check out this awesome photo my hubby took when El Thommo jumped into the crowd:
And more of hubby\'s photos from the gig here:
you can put those photos on this site you know. Go on.
Great to see you guys in Australia!!! Big question is, when are you coming back to do your own tour??? You'd get stacks of us Aussie Madness fans coming to support it. Thanks for brilliant shows down here!!! Hate to see you having to compete with other bands for stage time though. Come back down under soon if you guys can.
Could do it. Maybe next year...
LUNCHPACK OF TORRIANO
Hi Chris, wrote before bout possible ticket for my boy at V Fest Perth.Lovely reply from Kate at DSS site. Just to say..gig was great you were the best act by a mile(Human League 2nd) I was right at ya in the St.George specs and dead chuffed when Graeme gave me a nod from backstage before you came on. Hope you make it back someday and glad the press here realised that we Brits still know how to have the most fun in the sun without any hassles.
PS Have you ever heard Cat Empire from Melbourne?Top Sounds mate.
Love and Respect to all Dazz
Well thank you very much.
MUSIC HALL? PUPPETS?
There is a possibility that touch "Hunchback Of Torriano" on Jools Holland's show?
Do not let escape that song is a single! I love it!
So do I.So I do.
I need help with my portfolio! While listening to LONF I started getting pictures and ideas in my head for a video which I have now decided to start creating on paper for my portfolio. But my ideas are of Sweeney Todd vs Moulin Rouge in around the 19th century! But almost certain they did not have wide screen tvs and DVD's! lol. But then again this is Madness we are talking about lol. Can u give me any ideas as this is to get me into college, please? Jade xx
They could be watching a puppet show which is sort of TV sized. Also a Music Hall type thing. Good luck.
I can be serious at time. Deadly serious. This is one of those times.
It'd be a shame if those songs on CD 2 of the box set were heard by no one beyond the diehards. This is why a single gleaned from this set of tunes is a must, perhaps a double A-side.
That in mind, I'll give you the best contenders for commercial and artistic success (for my aim is always true and only I know what is best, yes, only me):
- Hunchback of Torriano
- One Fine Day
Check out the Central poll on this subject. You'll see the opinion is not mine alone.
That is all.
Thanks for that.
thanks sooooo much for playing melbourne, australia.....was honestly the best gig i have ever seen( i was at the madness sideshow, not at V festival)....and i know all the other melbournians were stoked too!!!
thanks so much again
Thanks. I loved it too.
Hello there, firstly can i say how amazing your new material is! Well done nutty boys! Although i'm only 19, i am one of your biggest fans! You are fantastic! My dad andy is your ultimate fan so i've grown up listening to your music. Coming down from tamworth in june to see you at your concert in stroud, cannot wait, i love you guys!!! Kate Perry x
Thanks.I'm sorry for the delay in replying but I am working my way through 391 messages.
hi cb, i have listened to the whole album and just want to say that i love it ! original and fantastic, i cant wait to buy it, i just want to ask if the box set will be out in shops soon or is it only for order on the net, well done guys for an album with class as always, all the best, stuart
The box set will be available in HMV but I think at a quite higher price than on the net. There will also be a 14 track CD version which will be released on the 14th May. This will have the 12 download tracks plus NW5 and Africa.
Hi chris hope you are well? ... Great new album by the way .... what chance AFRICA or HUNCHBACK being released as singles?
You never know do you?
first time madness lover
love you guys have to let you know my fiance is a fan for ever andis from Manchester, but hey i would still love too see you guys again great performers
loved you guys at perth v fest come back soon please first time madness lover
Just been reading on Madness Central about forthcoming events like the CAmden Crawl, the screening of the Julian Temple film, Jools Holland.
Also there was your front cover on the UNCUT magazine.
Was just wondering why there has been no mention on the official sites about these. Would be good to have an official news page on here with regards to forthcoming TV / Radio / press stuff. (or is that what the madspace site is for)
The thing is they tell us what we are doing. OK...our news guy was in Japan. There is also news available if you subscribe to our newsletter.
I couldn't buy the new album as I live in China so I downloaded it for free on *******. I don't feel too bad about this because I have spent a lot of cash on Madness stuff over the years and bought many of the albums twice when they came out on cd... that said I do feel like I've let you down a tad on the loyalty side but I bet you'd do the same in my shoes and on my poxy wage.
God bless you my son. You are forgiven. However buy it when it comes out on CD will ya?
Why did you chose to play SKA music?
It's not just SKA you know.We do other stuff you know. All sorts.
Well I saw you in Melbourne at the Palace and WOW you rocked my jocks....hahaha....LOVED IT SOOOO MUCH and my feet still hurt from dancing....Ive seen loads of people in concert and you guys were the best ever....Ive seen Prince,Madonna(boring),Micheal Jackson,Janet Jackson,Midnight Oil,Bon Jovi,Guns N Roses,The Cure,Red Hot Chilli Peppers,Blink 182 and The Wiggles (I think thats a pretty impressive line up and hey Im 40 so hence all the 80s geezers). YOU GUYS WERE SOOOOO MUCH FUN....DID I MENTION I LOVED IT????? And I was waiting patiently because you didnt start until 10.30pm and I was on the side of the stage, and you walked past and up the stairs and what did I do??? Just stared at you like a stupid awestruck teenager and I was gonna say Hi but I was lost for words..(All I heard inside my head repeatedly was "OH MY GAWD THATS CHRISSY BOY"...)I WAS AWESOME THANK YOU TO YOU AND THE BOYS FOR THE BESTEST CONCERT EVER.....
That's funny. I felt the same way.Thaks
Hi Chrissy Boy. How big is your cupboard and would you consider an extension if the Council granted planning permission? Norton boxset is an absolute gem, cant stop playing it.Thankyou.
Thanks.Funny you should say that. I just saw my architect regarding some planning permission. So probably not.
Hi, I just wondered whether you knew if the madness film "take it or leave it" is still available to buy and where? I've been everywhere I've even been checking Amazon and ebay for a while and they don't even have it. Thanks!
but it's £35! It has been deleted while we sort out our back catalogue deal but it will re surface soon. So don't pay silly money for it.
WO OH WO OH FOR THE WINGS OF A ...
Hey Chris - Just got the Norton Folgate box and can't stop listening. Absolutely great so congrats to all. One question: why is the limited edition CD sequenced differently? I think it works better and was wondering what your thinking was. I know that you don't want any "when's the next gig" questions but we here in the USA would love to see you.
Thanks for all the years of great music!!
What limited CD? Do you mean compared to the vinyl sequence? On a CD you can put them in any order but on Vinyl you can't.
Hey, I was woundering if you could tell me what the Madness song is which is upbeat and has everyone singing along to something like Ooooo, ooooooooooooo, ooooooo, oooo. its really hard to explain it! But it'd be great if you could help me :)
Many Thanks :)Zak
Wings of a Dove?
IT MUST BE LOVE
Hi Chrissy Boy,
First of all thanks for the box-set. I Think it's the best collection of songs in the last 2 decades.
I've read about the film of Julien Temple which will be shown on 17 april in London. Will this film be available on dvd or as a download on the M-section? A lot of people outsite London can't see it.
Dinant, from the wonderfull country Holland
Hopefully the film will surface one day on some sort of DVD or TV format.
I was at your gig in Newcastle in Dec 2006 and was wondering if by any chance you had any of the pic's that were on the slide show behind you during must be love? The only reason I ask is I have been a fan since I was very young kid lol... and some thing always came up so I could come to the gig such as giving birth lol, untill my hubby bought the ticket's for our anniversary lol.
Hope you are all keepin good,
speak soon Viki xxx
I don't know what happened to them I'm sad to say.Sorry
DON VAN WRECKER
Alright Chrissy Boy?
I'm having my Scooter done up in Toni Tye photo's from the 79/80 days and was wondering (if I could get the Vespa to a gig) once it was done if you lads would kindly add your monicals to it?
By the way the Liberty is as strong a collection of songs as I have heard in a long while, congratulations.
Thanks mate. Our monicals? Yeah I suppose we could.
ONE FINE DAY?
TO CHRIS ? OR ? E !? OR ! BOY OR JUST GEORGE CATCH YOU AT MADSTOCK ANY CHANCE OF A FREEBEE TO ROMSEY I WOULD ASK LEE BUT HE NEVER REMEMBERS FROM DON VAN WREACKER ??
What? do you want to go on the guest list at Romsey? No problem remind me nearer the date.
Must say I love "On The Town" and hope that is released after Dust Devil. Just curious why you seem to have opted for Africa as the final track on the new album instead of "Hunchback of Torriano"? To me, hunchback sounds a far better track.
A DIFFERENT BOX SET
I think "One Fine Day' is better than either. Er...sorry...it's hard to pick the best ones really
Hi. Love the website. I've been trying to find a boxset containing all the albums but can't seem to find one anywhere. Will you be bringing out a new collectors set at some point or would it best to track down a used one online. Thanks. Julia
Our back catalogue is deleted at the moment. We never did a box set with all the albums.Er....except it was pointed out to me that we did the Lot which had six albums but not Wonderful I think. We will be releasing all the original albums over the next few months.
I would just like to say i am a big fan of Madness and hope to see them live soon.
I also want to say well done to Suggs for his contribution on Let's Dance for Comic Relief. He should have won!
All the best for the upcoming gigs
Well done boys on a fantastic set at the V festival Perth, Shame you only had an hour!!
Please don't leave it another 23 years before you stray over the water to Oz again
We shall be back..
AH WELL A BIT OF LEVITY
Just want to know, Has Bedders got his own printing service? Heard it on a interview once and didn't know if it was true....
Yes. He was printing banknotes and he sort of got in trouble and they won't let him into Australia any more. He has a shop in Brick land and he does some design and artwork as well.
I would just like to say thanks and that Madness are the dogs bollocks
Madness for ever :)
The Nutty Odd Job Man
well I knew that already..
Thanks for a fantastic show at the V Festival in Perth! We danced our feet off! We are all still on a high from it and thank you guys for finally making the trip back to Perth! On behalf of all ex pats in Perth....You Rock!
Hi Chris i have just got my box set, still developing at its large(really excited). I must congrat you all for all the hard work.
It is always good to be a Madness fan!
still wondering what comes to your mind to play again that pinkpop fest after 28 years since the first time.
cheers from México. Domingo
Thanks. 28 years! Oh my golly. What a long time. Ian Dury got Barso on stage to sing Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll. What a hoot.
here at the French MIS learnt that you're playing in France (Rock en Seine Festival)at the end of august...and also maybe a private gig for a french radio
Do you think it could be possible to have some VIP pass for the French MIS? You could meet your french fans, have a drink together and if you're OK we could also make an interview. What do you think about it?
We tried to talk with Naive, your new french label (a good one indeed), but things don't seem to go easily. They don't consider us enough interesting for the promotion....
Dear Mr B
I shall see what we can do.
A couple of points regarding your Norfolk gig: first why won't the organisers allow any ticket concessions? I am a severely disabled wheelchair user who needs to bring a PA with me, yet they won't allow any reduction on a second ticket. Also, why is it a 'closed shop' where catering is concerned?
I am sorry to hear of your predicament. I will see if anything can be done about it. The catering however is not really within our powers. What exactly is the problem with it?
ON THE TOWN
only got boxset yesterday absolutely brilliant.but in my box i didnt recieve your very nice letter was only a certain amount printed .i really would like to have one if possible to make it complete
thank you very much
Congratulations you are the lucky winner! Please send £300 to me and you will get a surprise. OK I will try to sort you a letter.
Hi again CB,
On The Town: Has to be one of the best songs ever, but the album copy is very different to the download version! Amber's voice is a little more subtle and suits Suggs voice where as Rhoda is alot more powerfull and sounds a bit out of place! Also the download copy sounds more finished than the album version! I hope you dont mind me saying so! The album is very adictive and I absolutely love it! xx
I prefer Rhoda myself.
Evening Chrissy Boy and co!
Line up for Madstock ?
If you could have ANYONE in the whole wide world play the festival who would it be?
Was told to look in cupboard however cannot find confirmation of whether tickets bought through trinity S**T sorry Street will be honourd also I now gather under twelves free. I wonder if you know anyone who wants a golden circle ticket. Cannot wait have my son already knowing all favorites and he is already buzzing. He was at last Madstock 98 (in his mums tum) but still seems to remember night boat to Cairo. i was at all finsbury madstocks Sorry for wasting your time but still a bit concerned that no direct contact from new ticket distributors via mailing list on orders
Sorry about the delay - what can I say. There are people working on this and I have sent them your details.
thanks for the long awaited boxset everything intact apart from the m badge seemed to be missing.....
Are you sure it didn't fall out? It is the size of a pinhead.OK one will be sent I think.
Hello Chris, looked at the line-up for Madstock and am most pleased that the Aggrolites will be joining you but just can't get my head around why on earth the Pogues will be playing! I can't see any connection with the music whatsoever and think most Madness fans will be disapointed. Not to mention the political connections surrounding the Pogues and with whats happening in the current news. Do the band have any imput into whose in the line-up. Please reconsider!! Thanks Cass.
NAME RANK AND....
ps. prob don't remember me but me and my sis gave you a lift home after Dublin Castle about 10 years ago (just about remember myself!)
Yes we all like the Pogues they were approved by the band. There is quite a connection, as they were on Stiff back in the good old days. We went to see them in Glasgow a few years ago. They have some great songs. As for the "current news" well it never occurred to me I must say. Thanks for the lift though.
when did you first join up?
THERE AINT NO SUCH THING AS A FREE GIG-IS THERE?
1914 In the early days of SKA.
CB, any info/tips of where and when you will be playing at the camden crawl...for free!!! :D:D
MORE MORE MORE!
FREE! FREE! WHAT? THE...I DIDN'T SIGN UP FOR THIS!
Sorry if this has been asked before, but whats going on RE: Trinity Square and my ordered tickets??
Will i lose them???? Im wondering whether to order some more from ticketmaster?????
Please be patient. do NOT buy any more.[thinks greedily...God I hate saying that - he seems willing to buy MORE]
hope all is well and love the new box set. Already looking forward to the next one. So get cracking. Any who, i booked my gold tickets on day of release way back. Should i have got them by now or are they to arrive 2/3 weeks before gig? Also is S and V on stage 2 the young ladies of Suggs?
Be good old timer :)Anthony
Yes those two rascallapallions are indeed Sugg's daughters. I shall have to hide me booze. The tickets well it's all in hand I think..
I nearly wet myself when i found out you were playing soon , me and my mate are gonna have to travel a bit, but were so excited, and only 17 & 18 ..your legends man, we love you <3 x
Hi. I saw someone mention here that The Coral would be a good choice for Madstock, & I would most definitely agree! Any chance of that happening?
Yes there is but we have to all really pull together.
CAMDEN BELONGS TO US!
Today I received my boxset and I have to say: it's great and more than worth the money. It's feels like a mysterious, rich treasure with lots of content to be explored. Surely hope it's gonna be a big succes for Madness. It's deserved. Thanks! Shlatman, Amsterdam.
I thank you for this.
Any truth in the rumours i should take april 24th off work and head to camden?
Oh yes indeed there is. Do you need a sick note?
Alright there Chrissy Boy,
JANE & co
Madness fan for the last 30 years mate, was there for the earthquake and everything.
Now Im a bit peeved that you are holding Madstock on a Friday and its the last day of term for my kids who I wanted to bring along. So whats up with that then ??
Are they under 12? They get in FREE! you have my permission to bring them along they can miss the last day can't they? Come on my son...I will write the sick note myself I am right good at it...
Not a question Chris, just wanted to let you know that my two mates and myself can\'t wait till July for Madstock.Like a lot of people two of us has lost our jobs and my other mate has had personal problems, but now we have something fun to look forward to.Thanks Madness we love you. Jane x(big kiss for Chas)
I hope you all enjoy it.
Chris, Chris, Chris, my boxset has arrived..hahahahahaha it´s great, it´s wonderful, it´s Madness... ;)
THOMMO ON HOLS
Well of course it is....
Hi, i got a copy of UNCUT mag this week and i see that Lee ain't in the new photoshoots! has he left the band?
If only. No the pie eating git was on holiday in Portugal. he had already booked it before the photo session came up. He didn't want to lose the £50 He had paid for his holiday. It never changes my son. He didn't turn up for the first interview we had either.
Recieved the boxset just the other day. Well worth the wait. Congrats on the album too - you guys haven't lost it.I hope you all enjoyed your Aussie tour. It was so great to see you in concert - a dream come true.
Well thank you indeed.
Hello chrissy boy
doesnt time fly, it was only yesteryear that age 9 i inocently asked the man in the record shop (remember them) if he had baggy trousers, now i am a 40ish father of 4. so heres the question, two of my kids want to come two gatecombe park, but one is in a wheelchair. do you have any idea or know a genderless person who does what the accessibility will be like, i see there is no confessions or is that consessions and to be honest as the day is long don't really want to splosh the dosh if all he will see is the back of peoples heads, anyway up hope you n yours are well
Record shop? you must be more than 40. I have sent you message on to a MAN I know who may then pass it on to a WOMAN. At which point forget it. I'm sure there will be a wheelchair space but if it rains...
PS I got this reply the other day
In response to your enquiry below,
There are adequate facilities for weelchair users, Close Parking, Toilets and a weelchair ramp.
The stewards are very friendly and will look after you.
Regards Roy Trickett
Two minutes ago I send you a message asking you nicely to chase up my Folgate order, and then just now, the postie delivered it!
The service you guys give to your fans goes way beyond anything fans of other popular music combos could hope for.
Dammit! You got someone elses's by mistake. Yours should be another 6 weeks. I have got your details, so can you send it back ASAP with a £50 cheque [made payable to C Foreman] for the handling charge.
Hi Chrissy Boy,
SET BOX AND MATCH
I was wondering if you could give me a bit of information about Madstock.
The poster says children under 12 go free... does this include the golden circle cause i have got tickets for the golden circle tickets but my daughter wants to come.
Yeah I suppose so. but it could get a bit lairy in there you know. Especially if Thommo stage dives...
Sadly my boxset hasn't arrived at all. Can you get the nice people at the company sending them out to sort this one out for me?
PS: Dust Devil is a fantastic choice for first single: wayhey!
Thanks and I will get someone to get someone to get someone else to sort it.Honest.
I just wanted to say we went to the gig in Adelaide and it was FANTASTIC! We had a brilliant time and hope you choose to come back again - soon! The Thebarton is a great theatre and I think everyone really enjoyed themselves - the vibe was great. We moved to Australia 2 years ago and were really missing a bit of old blighty. Thanks for giving it to us. Tina
It was a pleasure.
Great gig at the VFestival! I have a review you might want to read...seems you guys left the contemporary rock acts for dead..let me know if you want a copy. T.
Yes well it's all very nice I must say.
hi again CB, forgot to ask wat happened to Bedders at the perth or aus V festival gigs??? the chap who filled in did a great job.
LETTER OF THE MONTH
Bedders was not allowed into Australia because he has a criminal record.
Alright then CB, Ive been waiting 30 years to see u guys and it was well worth the wait. The Perth Australia gig was fantastic and i really hope u come to Perth again, perhaps on a Liberty of Norton Folgate tour. My brother and friend were fortunate enough to dance up on stage with chas, how cool. The cd is fantastic and i cant wait for the box set. thanx for the best gig ever, u r still the best band ever.
I can't find anything wrong with any of that.
The Perth gig was fantastic… we enjoyed every moment of it. That hour went by so quick.
I was standing on your front left, waving my red Turkish hat!!
Hope we can still meetup one day (the hat needs to be signed).
ps: your les Paul is still out of tune :)
You again! ha out of tune Look sonny, I was playing all the right notes..But not necessarily in the right order.
all the best CB
Been a fan since 1980.Finally saw Madness for the 1st time in Melbourne. Dream come true to see you guys. Thanks for coming out.
Paul (originally from Kent)
I'm glad you got to finally see us.
Mate awesome Adelaide gig much better than the last one - 23 years ago!! Zoinks I'm old.
The question is how come you guys never play any of your later singles live such as Michael Caine, One Better Day or Yesterdays Men?
Like most people on here I grew up with you guys and still think those songs and there contemporaries are some of the best pop songs ever written. My tastes matured as the bands did but it seems that you now prefer to go back to your ska roots. Nothing wrong with that of course but i'm intrigued as to why?
Thanks. The set list has been honed/pruned over the years and only the lowest common denominator/biggest hits get in. The three songs you mentioned have been performed at some point since our come back in 1992. Ska roots I don't know about really.Do you mean Baggy Trousers and so on?
I've got something to ask.
Have you guys ever thought of making your own music videos? I mean recording it and editing it yourselves?
Nice Man George
Yes - we have done that you know.Steve.
I\'m glad Australia went down well from what I heard from friends! Hope youve slept off all that jet lag haha, but will there be TV and radio appearances here in UK to promote Liberty of Norton Folgate?
Oh yes indeed. There is some top notch stuff coming up.
Under 12's free for Madstock, how about the over 35's free ? Why should all the kids have fun for free !!!
YES YES YES
All people over 65 can get in free. As long as they are accompanied by thier parents..
'Norton Folgate' superb havn't stopped playing it..dare i say that this is in my opinion is your best album...worth the wait..was more excited about this than i was waiting for the release of 'one step'....Not a weak track on the whole album..Spread the word.
OK I will
thanks CB x
Hey Chrissy Boy - Simple one for you. How do you become a member? It's not obvious, only I clicked on Members Login and what next? I can't see anywhere to join, or am I just being a bit thick!!
TWO FOR ONE
Looking forward to your UK gigs, my brother and sister went to Melbourne and Perth gigs and U R the best.
I assume you have the dreded box set? If you do then you should have a card with the number on it. If you don't have a box set then...well you are missing out my friend.
Dear Mr Christopher Boy
BJORN A GAIN
After looking in the madshop for a t shirt to proudly wear at madstock in a bit of a pickle....
I dont suppose there is any chance in getting your T shirts/tops in some bigger sizes for us rounder salad dodging types is there???? or shall I order the slimfast now?
ta very much
I always thought you were thinner. Buy two and sew them together. Works for me.
I just saw the Madstock poster on this website... surely bjorn again won't be playin at the same time you will?
SING ALONGA STAR
I hope not. I want to see them.
Coming to see you at Newbury cause your my best band ever. Do you know if there will be a madness version of singstar available? From (the youngest madness fan) P.S Say hello to Suggs and Bedders for me.
Our House will be on Singstar soon.
I've been listenin to the Practice Makes Perfect CD that comes with the boxset. I really like the intro to Clerkenwell Polka with the acoustic guitar and then the drums kick in. Would you consider using that intro when playing it live rather than simply the vocals to start the song off? Just a thought!
Cheers - Paul
Chas has been playing his acoustic so we could do it.
it looks like the Australia tour went down really well. Did you all enjoy it?
Oh yes it was good fun. However the travelling is a killer. I must have the carbon footprint of Madonna.
Please can i have some help, i ordered 4 golden circle tickets as soon as they were on sale, i have got a confirmation email but thats it, i have tried everything to find out if i still have these tickets, i have contacted the digtal stores email you posted below, but they say they cant help, can you please give me a point of contact so i can try and find out if i need to buy tickets again, and claim the 150 back on my credut card.
p.s box set is amazing
I can assure you our team are working on this so you should be OK. Keep in touch.
No question, just thanks.
Box set arrived here in Oz in a matter of days, although I could have purchased a small sheep station, what with the exchange rate an all.
It's good to hear the "Old Boiler" herself Rhoda upon the track "On the Town"
This album is in my humble opinion is incredible and well worth the wait, without doubt epic.
Thank you Madness, gush gush...
Thank you for persevering and buying the bl**y thing mate. How much is a small sheep station.....Is it for small sheep?
G 'day CB

The Blue skinned Beast was a body bag. I think..
I saw you in belgium last year and it was a GREAT show... I hope I will see you again this year!
MAMA MA I'M LOST IN THE FAIRGROUND!
Please come in FRANCE!!!
Big kiss from France Buffalo Will
Do you got to the Buffalo Grill? If you go on your birthday do they still give you a free meal?
Further to my 'One Step Beyond..' 12" question submitted the other day, I was wondering why the single version of 'House of Fun' has never appeared on any Madness compilations or box sets apart from the U.S. 'Madness' album? The fade out version always seems to be used instead of the 'fairground' ending. The reissue single from '92 also had the fade out version.
Sorry for the boring question!
Love the new album by the way. The box set was well worth 40. A great addition to my Madness collection.
Can't wait to hear some of it live at Madstock.
You may have a point here. I do remember that one. Quite good.
Just bought my Madstock ticket from Ticket master, apparently its a golden circle one which cost £53 of your Earth pounds, I thought the golden circle was sold out?, I hope I havent paid over the odds for a normal ticket.
Hope your enjoying Oz and working on your tans, this is the year for SKA!!!.
Ah Mr Claypole
Ticketmaster see. They buy them all then sell them on. I'll have you thrown out my good man...
MANGE TOUT RODNEY
I just wanted to thank you and the band for coming Downunder (which sounds rather like a Les Patterson/Barry Humphries pun doesn't it...). My wife and I saw you last Tuesday at the Palace in Melbourne and later that week at the V Festival where I was one of only two Wallies wearing a boater. Both gigs were great and you made a lot of people very happy. Trust you had a good time in Oz...don't leave it so long to return next time. Good luck with the rest of the tour - especially Madstock...wish I could be there.
Good on you mate! Craggers.
It was bonzer. Is that right?
all the best CB
PS Who was the other wally? Me?
Hello Chrissy Boy!
Finally got my boxset yesterday (remember, something against France,blablabla..?). Thank you so much for this "Chef d'oeuvre".
I'm so proud of my favourite band, composed by 7 genius! And hey, I'm officially a "M society" member!
Thanks again, hope to see you in France this year (but not in June, coz I will be daddy for 1st time this month!!).
MagnificientMadnificient seven rules!
All the best Steve
PS;please, no more 10 years wait for a new album...
Bon chance avec le enfant. I told you the album would come ne'pas?
if you were to see a movie, either in the theatre or on DVD. what kind of movie would it be?
YOU NAUGHTY TRUSCALLS
30 years of Madness! Aint it great!
Ideally it would be a comedy slasher type sci fi action type of film.
Hi Chrissy Boy,there is a man on facebook impersonating Graham Mcpherson, and I know people shouldnt take these things seriously, but it fooled me and my friends at first, and now we all feel stupid, and hes still doing it,is there anything you can do?and on a different subject what are truscalls?xx
Is this a wind up? I have got a lot of serious questions to answer. There's a man in Brighton who says he is God but I don't think it really is the Lord. Don't talk to this man who says he is Suggs. I think you have been on here before with this old fake Suggs baloney. Suggs [the real one] is very un computer/internet un freindly. He says I am a nerd for doing all this. But he reads every answer I write. He seems to have some knowlege of my witty replies. In fact I write fast he reads slower than I write so in a way he spends more time on this than I do ha ha. he took an Apple laptop to Aussie and I don't think he even turned it on..
Truscalls are sort of like rascals but more trussy.
can you just imagine that ?
QUEER FOR IT?
i am a huge fan of yours and just received my long awaited "norton folgate" box set. I am nearly 44 and STILL have to argue that "YOU" a.k.a.my favourite band - i mean MADNESS, can NOT be racist... I am French, live in Le Havre (Normandy)and spend most of my life time-even at work-listening to ska, rock steady or any kind of SOUL music.
as Well as my wife and our 3 kids.
Don't get into any arguments on our beahalf. I do hate French people though. OK I am joking! A blague! I know in France if you are not a left wing type then you must be right wing. Funny really in a way. Very noir et blanc. No grey.
bisous Chtis xx
Just got the boxset... and couldn't find the version of "On the Town" from the download album version (featuring some young lady's vocal). I'm queer for getting it in CD quality. Will it be available anywhere?
And thank you for the new album, it's fantastic.
you have got me there. you are queer for it? Waht a lovely and funny expression. It may come out eventually on CD.
Transferable Madstock Tix.
MY NAME IS...
Okay, so i've been trying to get the scratch together to fly over from New York for the show. Thinking I couldn't make it (rotten economy), I passed on getting the M club promotion for Golden Circle, but I might just be able to do it after all. What's the official word about ticket transfer? If I'm able to scrounge up tix to the Golden Circle, will I be barred at the gate for failure to produce the correct documents? The fine print does state they are non-transferable, or is that one of the rules the members are encouraged to break?
You have really got me there.I think they have all gone now. Try to blag it if you can.
12" mixes: I heard an alternative 12" version of Michael Caine through the Madness Central link on the Madness website (so I presume it was ok - you guys lead me there.) Anyway, right choice made there. Was it common for more than one 12" mix to be commissioned, or was this one rejected before the released version was made?
DEAR OLD IRELAND
I think there would be one re mix every now and then. Did this have sort of stuttering my my my my name is Micheal Caine on it?
howya from ireland just saying thanks for the music cheers
Thanks to you too for Guinness amongst many other things.
on THE MADNESS cd, What does the B & F stand for on the track 4.B.F,
thanks, from Andy
OK that's enough questions already today. It's Bryan Ferry. Roxy did a song called 2HB which is Humphrey Bogart. This is also a type of pencil as well.
How do the band feel about people selling just the vinyl of Folgate on ebay? Why would anyone want to split up the box set anyway? See you at Gatcombe Park - can't wait,
Maybe they don't have a record player. How much are they going for? I'm just ....interested...
Hi CB, I just got my birthday pressant from my dad and it is the boxset!! It is amazing!!! Well worth the wait indeed and money especially! Thank you for producing the most amazing music and putting so much time and effort in to this album! You wanted it to be perfect and I can tell you now it is! From a very very gratefull fan!!!
UNDER THE INFLUENCE
See I told you so.
hi just wanna say that i am indebted to u guys for educating me in music and wondered what music influenced you guys to get into the business
THERE'S ONE BJORN EVERY MINUTE...
a lot of stuff Motown, Bluebeat, Ska, The Beatles, Roxy Music, Alex Harvey about anything good form the 1950's onwards really.
Why should I pay 15 quid to get 10 quid?
4th SONG IN?
Loved the boxset by the way.
The best set of songs since Rise & Fall
It's to cover the cost of packaging.
can you pls, pls, pls send me a copy of the set list from Adelaide? There was one song you played approx. 4 songs in that I didn't recognise & it made me cry my heart out standing amongst the crowd!!! I lost my big brother 6 yrs ago & that particular song felt like it was from him to me,as he was a huge madness fan & got me started at the age of about 5. I would really appreciate a response as it is his birthday soon.lots of love & thanks for a most memorable night xxxxxxx
A FEW DAYS TO GO
Was it NW5? I think so.
Hi Chris, haven´t got the box set yet and I hate being a bore about it, so on a positive note I think it´s great what you have done for all of us in order to receive the box set (it seems there all coming eventualy). Juts like the old days when the b-side of the singles was a new song not found anywhere else. OK, got to go now and sit by my door and look at the letterbox, waiting for a boxset that will come... ;)
I think you will get it on about the 7th of April.
Many thanks guys for coming to Adelaide this week.It must be almost 30 years since I saw the nutty boys in Glasgow ,this time around I took my wife & daughter who had a great time As good as ever
RE MIX BEYOND
Cheers from Adelaide don't wait so long next time Jim
On the 12" single of 'One Step Beyond...' is the a-side supposed to be one long version or is it meant to be 2 separate tracks? I presume it's 2 separate tracks as it runs through the lp version and then has the other version with the Prince Buster samples. There's no info on the sleeve or label and annoyingly this is neither on the Business or Singles Vol.1 box sets.
SHOW ME THE MONEY
I am not really good at this sort of thing. I a crap 12" mix which was just one Step Beyond all the way through. It stops and then went all the way through again. I am glad it wasn't on the Business myself to be true.
how do i become a member so i can login
ANYONE FROM HOLLAND ?
At the moment you have to buy a box set.
Great news to hear that the boxes are finaly being sent, but I am wondering if anyone from Holland has received theres yet.
Apart from that hope everything is going great.
I hope so.
Hi Chrissy Boy, hope you're all enjoying Oz.
DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE
Is there any chance "Grey Day" can be on the play list for Broadlands in July, its one of my absolute favorites! Pretty Please???
I'll see what I can do..
Hi Chrissy Boy
I've got another question for you.
I remember reading an article a few years ago about Madness doing a remake of Baggy Trousers called "Baggy Jeans". What happened to that?
Thanks Trilby Masters
It was just a rumour.
I'm a doofus. I've gone and lost my badge 'M'. Is there any way I can buy a replacement?
No way dude.Sorry.
Just wanted to say that i went to school with Nicholas Kalenowski and i got into you guys through him around 1980 ish.
Have got a copy of the box set of The Liberty of Norton Folgate and feel it's your best work to date - i can't get over how good this is.
I just wanted to say thank you really.
I was thinking who? Nicholas who? Then the penny dropped. Is he our old managers son? Good on him he got us a fan!
Hi Chrissy Boy,
Where are the ladies 30 years T-shirts?
Nimla :( xx
I won't mention the box set as you're probably well over it ....
You're almost at the end of the aussie tour, which band has impressed you the most of the 'V' lot?
Ive also rolled up a load of camberwell's for tomorrows gig in melbourne, i'll be the red eyed scouse monster orchestrating things from the rear...so to speak!
can't wait ... these are the day!
I liked Elbow a lot but I didn't really get to see a lot of the other bands. The Killers gave it some I must say. I saw your carrot the bouncers took it la.
M [ANCHESTER] SECTION?
I'm starting to get upset... because I've send you two more messages before this one. The first one... well, I don\'t know what happened to the first one, haha. And the second, yo put it here but without title and no answer...
I'll try a third time ;P!
I'm the same spanish fan that writed to you three times, haha. Are you going to perform in Spain this year or the next? If it\'s yes the answer, where?
Pleaaaaaase Chris, answer, haha!
OK I explain. It says no questions about when is the next gig at the top of the page. Because I don't know, I only get told at the last minute. Any gigs in Spain or wherever will be on this site. Believe me the minute we play in spain it will be on this site under GIGS.
Glad all is going well Down Under. I just wanted to know if the axecam footage you have in the 'M' section of 'The Liberty of Norton Folgate' was taken at the Manchester gig back in December last year?
Lovin' the box set and the new album.
Take care and bye for now.
Hope you are recovering. Yes it was the Manchester gig that you were at. It was too long to go on dodgy old Youtube so I kept it for a rainy day.
I've just this moment received my TLONF box-set.It took just 9 days from the UK to NZ and tho' it took a little battering on the way, that just adds to the supposed worn look, lol!!! Everything inside is fine.So a big thanks goes out to Madness, their management, recordstore and everyone else involved in getting these box-set out to the fans, in spite of the odds stacked against you!I'm looking forward to seeing you at Madstock in July.
From a far, far away maddie fan,Sean
Oh praise the Lord!
Just heard you are coming to Nottingham in July can't wait to see you all again, missed out on my MADNESS fix last year now in desperate need of one. Love to get some insanity back in my life, I miss the good ol days of living in NW5. LOVE YOU ALL!!!!
Yes us too..
Hello, Nutty boys.
I'm so glad to hear that My favourite band from my teenage years = MADNESS is playing at Hultsfred - Sweden this summer.
I'll be there, being 40+, feeling like 14 and Dance crazy all night long !!!
Bed and breakfast man
Dear Bed and breakfast man
You crazy man you.
I'd like to know if the Box's vinyl has the same versions than the CD, because I'll buy it but I have not vinyl player... and tell me (if the answer is YES), could you please NOT send me the vinyl and include something else (whatever you think equal-emotional-value)? May be a pair of glasses from any of you Dangermen? May be a broken guitar ha ha? Mayyyy be some recently cut fingernail? Thank your answer and sorrry my bad English
2 OUT OF 21
The vinyl is the same versions. No fingernails for you.
Heyyyyy just wondering what songs from the new album can we expect to hear at Newbury and Madstock?
ONE STEP AT A TIME
Well Forever Young and Dust Devil for sure.
SHIPS THAT PASS IN THE NIGHT AND ALL THAT
Any thoughts about performing the whole of One Step Beyond album at Madstock seeing at its 30 years since the albums release?
Would love to hear some of the lesser performed tracks played again esp. after reading Tarzan's Nuts was played recently.
Cardiac Arrest is one of your early singles that has not been played since Madness reformed in 1992, how come this gem is always overlooked?
The set list is a closely guarded thing. Very hard to please everyone really. We do our best. I would like us to do a complete One Step Beyond show this year but it will be a bit short.
Welcome back to Perth!!!
YOU WERE DOING SO WELL TILL THE LAST BIT!
We have been waiting for so long.
I'll see you on this Sunday's Perth gig.... if you see a person wearing a red turkish hat waving at you.... that's me ... That's the hat you supposed to sign when we were at Dublin Castle and Brighton 3 years ago but somehow didnt materialise.
We are destined to never meet my dear long distance pal.Sad ain't it?
love CB x
Have heard nothing but rave reviews of the box set, so really looking forward to receiving mine.
Have just driven 160 kilometres to the nearest town where there is a decent internet connection, and have been frantically searching for a way to contact you. Me old mate Graham (of Madness Central fame) said your cupboard is probably the only way at the moment, so here we are.
I had, in the last few days, composed a letter to you in the vian hope of somehow emailing it, but here\'s the short version....
Got a big favour to ask...
I\'ve loved you guys to death since 1980 when I was 12. You saw me through some rough teenage years, and I adore you now as much as I ever did.
Emigrated from Wales to Oz in 1987 (you\'d split up, so what was the point in staying?), had two girls then two boys, who I named Mark and Carl. If I'd had a third son I would've named him Lee.
My boys are big fans of Madness, especially Carl who's 13, mildly autistic, and immensely proud of his naming. They're gutted that the festival is 18+. My eldest daughter is a massive fan. I took her over to the UK in 2005, and changed our flight dates so that I could take her to see you at Sherwood for her 17th birthday. I wasn't planning to go back to the UK again till 2012 but when Madstock V was announced I booked flights for me and Kellie straight away. On the plastic of course cos I ain't rich. Madstock is her 21st birthday present. We're driving nearly 700kms to see you in Perth on Sunday. Not interested in the other bands.
Getting to my point.... To meet you guys, even for a fleeting moment, would absolutely be a friggin' life-long dream come true!!! Literally. However, given that Aussie security seems pretty strict, may we tell the bouncers that YOU have said it's ok to go backstage? They may not give a toss, but worth a try, wot? I have a personal message for Mr Smash from my son and strict instructions to get his autograph.
And I want Lee to sign my tits.
Sorry I only just got to read this. The bouncers yeas very nasty or strict at all V festival shows which were not OUR gigs so we couldn't get anyone back without a laminate pass.God bless yer for all that support.I had a tear in my eye till l I read about what you wanted Thommo to do. Bad lady you. Thanks Gawd he never did it. He is in Brisbane at the moment though...Chas is in the basement so you could send him a message.
Love CB xxx
hi chris y is there not a biography out on madness every one has a book out now days madness deserve one
VIVA LA FRANCE!
Well no one has got past the first chapter there is :
Out of print though..
Hi Chrissy Boy
ON THE TOWN
I JUST RECEIVED "IT".I just wanted to let you know, this will be a MAD day, thank you all, and see you soon in France.
Oh merci beaucoup mon copaine.
mange tout rodney
Hi Chris , On The Town , is that the same vocalist on the cd version as opposed to the advanced digital download ? The digital one sounds very much like Sophie-Ellis-Bextor and the cd version is very vey different. Cheers mate.
Yes different singers Rhoda Dakar is on the album and Amber Jolene is on the download.
Adelaide April 1st.......top show boys!
RETURN TO OZ?
Went to your concert in Adelaide on 1/4/09 and it was absolutely fantastic. It should have gone on longer, the time went so quickly.
Anyway, could you say Good Luck to Woody for his run in the Marathon.
I also wondered who Freddy is from your song "We want Freddy for a Leader?"
Keep up the good work, and don't take so long to come back to Adelaide.
Thanks. Fred is related to Thommo...
Just saw you guys perform at the Thebarton thertre Adelaide. Was one of the best nights we have had in a long time. To have a band that plays brass is just the best sound !!Thanks for comming to little ol Adelaide and for the great show.
Hope you can make it back again soon.
Mark and Kerry
Dear M and K
So do I.
Just wondering were Mark is for the Australian tour? And who is your wonderful new bass payer for the tour?
NO GIG GUIDE HERE
Looking forward to seeing you again on Saturday, 2 down 1 to go.. :( Loved the show on Tuesday night BTW fine form as always.
Bedders lost his passport at the last minute. Or so he said.
Hi Chrissy Boy, Loking forward to seeing you and the boys at Madstock. Loving the new album. Are there any plans of a trip North of the Border for the boys? The gigs in Glasgow were always amazing and it would be great to see you back in Scotland again! Thanks again for sorting out all the boxset and ticket problems too. See you at Victoria Park.
Dear Keithy Boy
Thanks very much.
Hi guys, was at your Adelaide, Australia concert last night...loved it. Had the best time, you guys have got never ageing talent!!!!Thanks for a fantastic night!!!
hi guys just got my box set and its great
hey, 1st of april and no joke, the box set appeared in germany by the postman, who said - oh something weared from england for you...It's a great package of new material, perfect. By watching the footballmatch germany vs.wales ( actually leading 1:0 after 20 min.,i'm taking a look in the M-Box
and the decision is clear:Madstock is booked, so don't change the date, couse flight's are already done.
Best of luck.Daniel
Dank Schone. The dates will stay the same. What are they again?
Fantastic new album but I think you now owe me for a set of van speakers!
2 quick questions. First, is the gossip I just received from M Central true? If so, congrats!
Second, are there any plans to release another book of sheet music? It's coz of Lee that this damn sax has taken over my life, but there's not much of your music around for sale.
Well don't believe anything much those crazy MC guys say especially around April 1st. A sheet music book on my mind for a while. But it won't have the sax tabs in if we do one..
Got my boxset yesterday. Is it a regular tenner or a "Madness-tenner" that you forgot to enclose in the boxset?
ON THE TOWN
Loved the new album!
Thanks. It depends on the current state of sterling.
I MISSED A FREE DRINK!
I hope you & all the other chaps are well. The question I have is.On the download of the new album, you sent when buying the box set.Whos the lady singing on "on the Town".Its been bugging me since Decemeber, I know its Rhonda on the final version of the album.Well Chris have a great day.The album is great I take my hat off to you.Good luck.
On the download it was Amber [nectar] Jolene. The album it's Rhoda Dakar.
Are you and the boys keen for a drink after tonights show, in Adelaide? If so the owners & management of The Lady Daly hotel would like to extend their most humble of invitations to you all. Venue will be closed to general public apart from some of our more prestigious regulars and a bar tab of $500 will be set aside for the band. Good luck tonight at the thebbie we have waited nearly 2 decades to see you guys again!
Dagnabbit! I only just read this back in Pommieland damn and blast my danged luck!
Not a question but I just wanted to say that I saw you in Melbourne last night and you were great. I felt 14 again.
Thank you for a great night.
Well I felt 64. Half my actual age..
Congrats on the brillo performance at the Gold Coast here in sunny Queensland where summer is the only season known. I've hidden your passports at the Sunshine Coast so you'll have to stay; see you at the next gig! Lunacy & music,
Sorry - I got back mate. Thommo is still in your neck of the woods though.
GOOD ON YER MATE
Great show in Melbourne last night, thanks heaps for coming out again...
My pleasure or should I say our pleasure.
Today is a gift, that's why they call it the present...Dear Chris, I just wanted to say thank-you and well done on a wonderful show last night in Melbourne. The day was one of extremes for me: I finally got to see my all time favourite band after a lifetime of waiting; and I lost my job. Madness to the rescue...I was standing there like a grinning idiot just before you guys came on stage...I was just so happy with anticipation and I was not disappointed. You blokes were sensational: played all the old favourites to perfection (even Tarzan's Nuts!) and the new songs went down a treat (I love Clerkenwell Polka). It was a privilege to be there and what came across to the audience was the sheer fun you guys seemed to be having. It's infectious. I must say it all got a bit hot and sweaty under the boater in the mosh-pit...think I pulled a calf muscle! Thank-you - your show was the perfect tonic for what might otherwise have been a Grey Day. My wife and I tried to pull a swifty by following one of the road crew under the stage but drew a blank...any chance of getting my boater signed next Saturday at the V-Festival? If not no worries. Thanks Chris - you guys have made my day and reminded me of the things that really matter. Good on you mate.
Sorry to hear about your job. I'm also sorry for the delay in my reply. It was sometimes a bit hard to get the time to check on my cupboard's contents. Hope you get another job soon
all the best cobber till next time.CB
Hi! I heard Tarzan's Nuts was played in Melbourne. How did it go down? was it a one off or will it be played when you return to the UK?
It went down really well. I hope we continue to have it in the set.
Got the box. Cheers.Slight problem though: the 3 little records fit in the machine I have but the big black one doesn't. I've tried breaking it up into smaller bits but still no joy. After doing this even the little ones don't work. Please advise ?
Surely if you put 4 little ones in the box this would be easier ? There is a credit crunch on after all.
Time for my pills...
Well it's a 78 which is probably the problem..
Hi Chris--hope you enjoying oz...cracking country to visit!!
Just wandered if there was any planned tv/promotions etc for the new album/single etc...be great fr the fans to get a heads up..
I would just loke to say thanks for the box set---brilliant new tunes and 10 out of 10.
You should watch out for the usual TV stuff to be confirmed ASAP.
hi crhis just resevid on e mail from a freind that the madstock night has been changed from friday 17 th july to monday 20 th of july is this true i will forward the email if you want thanks neil watson
Your friend is misinformed. We are doing Madstock on the 17th of July.Tell him to go on the 20th though.
GRUN AND BEAR IT
I am sorry for posting this on your blog but I am at my wits end at trying to find out info on my current predicament which I will explain below.
In January I spent 151 on golden circle tickets for Madstock for my son and partner from a company called TSDShop.com (Trinity Sales Direct) but since then I have not had any tickets neither will they return emails and their telephone appears to have been cut off. Can you advise if this company are authorised to sell the tickets or if you are aware of them at all as at this rate it does not look as though I am going to get any tickets which is really frustrating.
I am one of your lifetime fans from the early days of MIS as a kid to now (just turned 40) - saw yas at the 02 - FAB!!
Many thanks in advance for any assistance.....
I am really sorry about this. Our team managed to get everyone the box sets and the next thing being sorted is the tickets. This was the same company that went t*ts up at a most inconvenient time for everyone concerned. The tickets are now being hopefully sorted out as well. Let me know what happens. I have got about 200 messages in my friggin cupboard to go through that were there when I got back from Aussie but I have not seen any from you saying you have heard anything. Please hang on or tell me if you did get them or hear anything since you sent this.
greetings from the States. My wife and I spent the evening w/you and the boys after Old Trafford in '04 July. I guess my box set will take a little since it's crossing the pond??? Can't wait!
How could I forget? I hope you've got it by now.
Hello Chris how are you? Just wondered if you,ve decided what the B-sides for Dust Devil will be?Any chance of Wonderful World,Beautiful People,It Mek or Pigbag? All the best
The Roadette Song is one of them. A Dangermen track. It's a cover of a Kilburn and THe Highroads song.
Hi Chris, received today the box.. oweee oweee owee oweee oulala lovely box ! the vinyl sleeve has been lil' damaged during his trip (side where the disk moves and occurs the top of paper sleeve) but it's fault of nobody ! anyway what a lovely souvenir ! Yes it's Madness
UN PASO ADELANTE
TourEiffel & Polska
Dear TourEiffel & Polska
Glad you got the box. I'm sorry about the damage but it is a long way to you.
Just wondering ,with the 30th Anniversary fast approaching if there is much happening with CD reissues of all the old albums.
Can we look forward to the expanded deluxe editions with various versions of all those classics we love or is there anything left in the archives that we havent already heard.
Declan ( Dublin )
We are working on it. One Step Beyond will be re released this year.
- Got any Specials tickets yet?
- Any idea why it\'s always the guitarist in bands that are the approachable, \'ask whatever you like\' ones? You, Roddy Byers, Mike Batt... ;-)
They have sold out. I will be at the back door hoping someone will remember me.
Please tell me about Barsons recordings out of Madness. Answer me please don't be jealous I enjoy your works too.
He did a lot of stuff with Suggs.I was not jealous really, some of it was very good as well.
I got my box set yesterday, but can't find my membership number for the members login. What to do?
Was there a red card in the package? if so it's got the number on it. I have forwarded this to my team.
please please please a gig in edinburgh maybe the playhouse where your fantastic our house musical was keep skankin lads
I was in the crowd at V Festival on the Gold Coast and thoroughly enjoyed your concert. It was absolutely awesome and you played my favourite songs. The only problem was V Festival changing your start time to what was printed in the brochure they gave everyone as they walked in so I missed the beginning. Thanks for travelling down under!
is there any truth behind the rumour posted on Madness Central that Madstock might be moved to Monday? I hope not as we have booked and paid for hotel and flights -like many others I presume.
I do not think that is true at all.
I always wondered why Lee was painted blue on the beach set bugle playing parts of the Uncle Sam video - I now reckon it could be a nod to Blue Skinned Beast, there's a political connection there, am I right?
P.S. Is Carl still smoking?
Yes it probably was. Looked good. Carl is still smoking.
How are You?We have a question for you is a bit silly, but it is a curious question of crazy fans..
NOT AT ALL NEGATIVE
* What is your favorite movie?
We love A Clockwork Orange movie... and the Madness movie too, but is in our top ten (!)
We would like you to answer us, because we've written before and we have not received an answer :( But don't worry,we still love you!!
L & J
Dear L and J
Hard to say any one film. "Some Like it Hot" maybe.
Has the band at all recently discussed swapping hits in the set list such as Grey Day & Shut Up for other hits that haven\'t been in the set list for a number of years such as Ghost Train/Uncle Sam/Michael Caine/Cardiac Arrest etc or other old album tracks which are brilliant by the way. Its just that I come to see you every year and apart from the new songs the rest of the set list has been the same for 3 years when you had Beat Pete and for one show The Rise & Fall. If the band haven't discussed this do you think it would be a good ideas to swap a single for a single in the set list or swap the list around just to surprise the fans who go to 1 0r more shows a year.
Cheers Chris I don't mean to sound negative.
From a fan
Dear Marky B
not at all negative but a hard one. A lot of people want to hear the big hits so that dictates the set. We did do Micheal Caine a few years a back once or twice.
Hey Chris, sounds like you're having fun downunder in AC/DC land, go on show them how to thrash an axe. Anyway, any idea when we can expect the Boxset to arrive in America. I gave my wrong e-mail address when I ordered on Dec 18th & not sure if Trinity ever updated it, I did contact them several times. I managed to get my Download with id & password but never did get any e-mails.Anyway I know you're dead busy 'n'all, so whatever you can do or is there somebody I need to contact.
Bone 'n' Cazza
Dear Bone 'n' Cazza
Hmm.did you hear anything yet? This is an old email so I don't know. I am working my way to the top.
Dear Chrissy Boy
ON ITS WAY?
I wonder if you could advise a reasonable hotel near The Victoria gigin July We are travelling down to see you guys from Settle in Yorkshire! looking forward to seeing you all again
Can't our tour manager sort one out for you mate? Surely you will be going home after the gig?
TA VERY MUCH
Another day comes and goes and still no new plastic disc with encoded audio for my listening pleasure...
... and everyone else seems to have got theirs!
Is it 'cause I'm in Ireland? or have you brought my box set with you so everyone can scrawl on it before you send it to me??
No seriously... I really hope it arrives soon as my wife says she'd beginning to think me and the posty have a thing going as I chase him down the streets!!
RobG (waiting patiently) in sunny Ireland...
I am working my way through these. I'll see if you get it.
Question: wow i have loved you guys since 1979. my home is called "our house", my wedding cake was the big black M and i have a private reg on my car with the name suggs. i will miss madstock this time as we are on holiday that week but i want to wish you lots of luck for that day. dont suppose i could get a signed programme hee hee lots of love lorna from aberdeen scotland xxxxxx Lorna
ANOTHER SATISFIED CUSTOMER...
Hi Chrissy boy
just wanted to say what a fantastic box set, would have loved a dvd in it too but all in all its brill. Love the album one of the finest I have ever ever heard. Excluding the download sample tracks the new tracks Africa, fish & chips, hunchback and one fine day are brill. dont know what it is about africa but it is a brilliant track.
Hope that once the eurthoria of the Album has died down I hope it is not the end as far as recording new studio albums. If it is the last one well then boy was it a belter. Hope for the future, dvd & cd release of madstock 09, the julian temple film on dvd and an autobiography i think thats enough for Madness to be getting on with haha.
Sorry to send a "wow!, Brilliant!" email however.....Wow! Brilliant! Currently re-listening to the Hunchback of Torriano and We are London!! Enjoy Oz and the long flight home. You first class? You get free bubbly I hear on those.
I am a man of the people, so first class is not for me brother. OK I took the wife and 3 kids with me so it would have cost me about £25,000 in tickets so I chopped in my first class ticket and we just about got there. I had to leave 2 of them behind though...
Any room for DODGY at Madstock?
Love ya like a fat kid loves cake
Sure.Are they still going?
Sorry mate - what i meant by T's in my previous comment were T-Shirts (not tickets....)
I print t-shirts up for a livin' - so if any of the old punters want some then just send them my way...!
Quick question - will you and the rest of the nutty boys be going to any of the Specials gigs this year..?
All the best,
I hope to.
hi mate got the box to day fab .i read that steve has got gold tickets he needs to part with can you pas my emaill address to hime as me and my mates will love to have them as wee wastead time and thay sold out .i did have a bit of a paddy over it please help.c u ther.matty
I'm sorry I will try to help you but I have lost his details...
I'd love to see you guys come back to Australia. Think you could tour Down Under this year?
We just did.
you mad lot your music was and still is the sound track to my life see im 35 my dad used to play your tapes in the car and the first time i got to see cut it live was finsbury park in 1992 what a gig what night !!! im a north london geezer like the rest of you lot winchmore hill in fact ive seen every tour since 1992 ! i know this is cheeky but could i have a back stage pass for the victoria park gig ive got my ticket but it would be great to see you guys in the flesh what do think ? like my old man says you dont ask you dont get !!!!! all the best wayne
Thanks for all your loyal support but I'm sorry to say the answer is no.
Where do I need to send the SAE for the missing tenner?
After listening to the new album I have a question:the track 'on the town' has a different female vocalist on the two cd set compared with the download album, is there a reason for this and if this track was released as a single (which it should be in my opinion) which version would you release?
I enjoyed Australia. I don't know why there are two vocalists but I like Rhoda the best.
SAE address should be in the letter...
Love the box set. The new album is certainly one of the finest in the history of British pop. Anyway, I have another musical question for you. Why doesn't Chas play trumpet anymore? He was just getting quite good on it, but (correct me if I'm wrong) he hasn't played it on a Madness record since Rise and Fall. More trumpet, I say!
He plays it live. I am sure he does.
CHAS AND SUGGS
Got my boxed set and like everyone else I am soooooo happy with it, thanks for putting together such a fantastic collection of music. It was well worth the wait, definitely your best stuff since Absolutely IMHO.
I have a question. Could you ask Suggsy why he sang like Larry the Lamb (quavering voice) at ive shows towards the back-end the bands first coming. Was he trying to be a bit Bryan Ferry-ish?
Keep up the good work as always mate and I hope to see you all this Summer.
Er what? He always sounds like that. Bryan Ferry copies him.
how is carl and suggs
SEND IT ON
They are unstoppable at the moment.
hello chris i got an extra box set by mistake address of real owner inside if i send it on to him could icome and see you and the boys back stage at vicky park life long fan thanks micky
Ha I have got your e mail address! If it's the right on that is. Come on send to the poor person and you will get GOOD KARMA which is much better than a back stage pass.
Awesome show at Luna Park Sydney. Come back soon and put Queensland on the gig guide next time...please. There, I asked ever so nicely.
Cheers from Oz
Hopefully we will.
I don't want to "gush" but I have to say the Liberty of Norton Folgate is just superb. It's on a par with the Kinks "Village Green preservation society". I can't believe that you chaps have produced possibly the best album of your careers at this stage in the game. Amazing. It strikes me that it was a labour of love ( for your home city ) and encapsulates what makes Madness so classically "english"in one album.
I demand that the NME and music mags give it the positive critical review that it so deserves.
thanks. It's nice to know you all seem to like it.
As a follow up to the "wrong" mixes/singles box set question I meant that It Must Be Love had a cold end (actually finishes) rather than the faded end that was actually on the single. (If it\'s any consolation, about 5 of the 12 singles in singles box one matched the 7"/12" releases!)
I FINK NOT...
Will we get Barso's 'right' mix of Los Palmas 7 on the reissues - any news of bonus tracks?
I thought that was what you meant - probably a radio edit. A lot of our old masters have probably disintegrated by now. In 1992 I went an found them for Mike to sample bits of Driving in my Car, Grey Day and a few others. Anyway the tapes were in right state even then and the oxide was coming off. Could be a future project for me to located them all one day...
I recieved a wierd email from madness central telling me what to expect inside the M area. The last part of the email caught my eye, as it mentioned the Fink brothers. Are they really in the M area? ;)
ha ha no I hope not they have been in an iso cube since 1986.
I just want to tell you guys how awesome you made my days as a rude boy here in brisbane Australia. Its a shame you don't come to brisbane as I would have been right at the front skanking away. Best wishes boys. Ididnt know you were all still kicking it together well done. I'm gonna buy some Tee\'s and stuff and check out the album.
Thanks very much.
Hi Chrissy Boy,
Just saw you guys play @ V Festival, Gold Coast...AMAZING. Loved it, you guys are still Nutty, and amazing. My girlfriends and I met you all in 1982 @ Festival Hall in Brissy. We wrote 397 foolscap pages back to back; CAN WE PLEASE MEET MADNESS and we did. We were only 13 and 14 then. We then saw you @ Bombay Rock on the gold Coast in 1984 and met you guys briefly upstairs after the concert. Then we saw you guys again in 1992 near Camedon Town @ Finsbury Park I think. We love you guys so much. We were right near the front @ V festival and were hoping somehow that we might meet you again, but it didn't happen. Can you please come back to Australia. You can all stay @ my house !!!!!!! We still have the photos of you all from 1982. Please email back and we'll have a chat. Love you boys, Natalie
You know what? I've got that 397 pages. Except one is missing.
Thanks to Cathal for his kindness and generosity. Met him with my family (david baxter plus 2) in Sydney hotel coffee shop on Sat 28th a couple of hours before the V gig. We went of course. It was a treat. Thanks Cathal and God Bless. Thanks everyone for a great gig. The crowd loved it.
Just finished listening again to all 3 discs from the boxset. Stunning. Brilliant. Fantastic. 5-star. Totally knocked-out by it! Song after song, everyone one is a delight. I hope this gets the air time and the success it so richly deserves. Congratulations on a magnificient album!
MR M. W. BEDDERS ESQ.
Chris, where is Mark?
ISLE OF ALL WIGHT
He is in the UK.TCB.
hi ya chrisy boy,
i know you played at the bestival on the isle of wight a faw yars ago.i did not get to see you lot.i got kick out of the bestival because i sneak in. just like to know what all you lot thought of the island. plus a lot of people what stop talking about the bestival which you lot came down. on the site were you did the bestival (Robin Hill) they show some higlights of the weeked and i got to said you guys were so good.to me you guy were the best.
p.s the saxerphone is to hard for me so i have gone back to clarinet
Thanks.I love the Isle of Wight. I live sort of just down the road. We went there on a holiday a few years ago.
hey, I think your totally awesome, just seen you at v fest and you were all tops. Thought it was a shame you didn't all get a mentioned, would of liked to see you and Mike come out front and say hi, Woody got a mention, but was just wondering where Mark bedders was. You were so tops, I was sooo jealous of the people you got up on stage. I'm on cloud 9 after seeing you, still can't believe I've seen you again here in Oz, wow what a dream come true. Your all amazing and still got it. Keep it up and hurry up and come back (why didn't you do another gig on the gold coast or in Brisbane ?
KISS ME HARDY
Oh gee thanks.
Chris - will singles ever be released from CD2? You should get The Kiss out there pronto mate :-)
It is a bit good isn't it?
Please express my gratitude to all of the fellas.
Myself and the wife had the best time ever at the V Fest Sydney. It was truly wonderful, it was fine showmanship and excellent entertainment.
How cares about the Killer et al Madness Absolutely.
hey where the \'ells bells is Bedders? He\'s not on the OZ footage?
DOWN ARGENTINE WAY
He was "looking after business"
This is not a question, it is an appreciation.
For letting us go back to listening to new music with Madness. I have read that is difficult to be together, and living in different places. Hopefully not another ten years pass between disc and disk, because the new music that connects them all, you and us.
And because I'm happy walking down the street listening to the "nananaa ...." and I feel like a welcome.
A toast from Argentina to all of you.
RETURN TO SENDER
I am a huge fan of Madness. I last saw you guys in concert at Thebarton Theatre (Adelaide) in 1986 when I was 16. I'm looking forward to seeing you all again in concert on April 1st. I was wondering, your Take it or Leave It movie, how much of that is based on fact or fiction. I absolutely love it.
It's mostly true except I didn't work in a sorting office and I never worked with Mike plus...blah blah blah.
PS I should have made that a little clearer. He threw th eFez back to me, so I have it, and would love to mail it across for a signature to make a it a brilliant Madness momento for the bar as it did the Night Boat to Cairo thing. Would naturally send a return envelope etc. Cheers and many thanks.Talan
Oh right. What did he sell on e bay then?
Hi Chris. Loved the Luna Park Sydney Show, seeing you guys this arvo at V Fest Gold Coast. Awesome!!! I threw a Fez up to Lee at Sydney which he wore. Any chance of mailing it over with return envelope for a signatues or 7? Thanks for the great shows!!!!!
Sorry he has sold it on e bay for $500.
Oi Oi Chrissy Boy,
Thanks for putting on the best performance at yesterdays V Festival in Sydney.
Where's Bedders and who was the lookalike in his place???
Well well was it yesterday? It seems like two weeks ago to me. That's jet lag for you. Bedders passed on the trip. Stand in ringer was Graham W Bush.
I WASN'T THERE..OK WE FORGOT.
If i printed up some quality ska T\'s for you and the boys where do i send them ????
All the best,
Can you do about 20,000.Please make sure it says Madness 1979 30 years and not 1978 this time.
why no run out groove message? :(
Just forgot really.
Just wanted to say I have safely received my boxset and its excellent - well worth the wait.
I now understand why it was delayed so long...it was a very kind gesture for you to arrange its arrival on my birthday. Its just a shame everyone else had to wait for my birthday to come round.
Hope you're all enjoying the weather in Oz.
All the best to you and yours, Donnie
My pleasure. I'm back now and the weather is cr*p.
How are you? I have been a Madness fan for many, many years now from One Step Beyond onwards. Do you ever feel frustrated that Madness are often viewed as the the happy go lucky Nutty Boys although a lot of your songs (on the albums) were often of a more serious nature. Anyhow keep up the good work.
All the best, Paul
Sometimes. But it's better to have been a happy go lucky band than not at all.
Chrissy, Madness are the best in the world when are the best in the world gonna hit the charts again with the nuttiest sound around (sorry!!) all the best guys keep it up Deano
PORK PIE HAT?
Just gotta tell you how much I'm loving the new album, it must be album of the year,if I hear one better I'll eat me hat. Also how about coming up to Yorkshire for a few gigs.
i ordered my boxset via trinity, who can i contact to see if it been
sent? all my friends have theirs but mine has not arrived
I am ploughing my way through a huge pile of messages and I don't know if you got your box set or not. I will find out what has happened..
My Box Set has arrived. Well worth the wait.
MADNESS COME TO SERBIA, MADNESS COME TO SERBIA, MADNESS COME TO
BIG US UP
SERBIA... YES, YES, YES
Love you, thank you ....
It's here! It's arrived! It's frickin' GENIUS!!!!
HAD TO SAY IT...
box set at my door yeeessssssss. With all the goodies in it. If you have not bought i can't tell you whats in it. Just want to know, who says what songs go on Norton Falgate? As some songs on CD2 are better. Its all down to taste i know. Also, how come the info on the Aus gigs did not come out sooner. As i would have got to Aus big time if i knew sooner :( All good stuff, keep it up old timer and see ya in July :) When do tickets get posted?
I'm glad you like it. I would like to eventually do a CD with all the songs on it as they are a ll really good.I don't know when the tickets are coming but hopefully before the gig...The Aussie tour was only confirmed at the last minute, as a few of the band were not sure and in fact Bedders didn't come with us which was a shame.
ever fancy playin in Jersey?
YE OLDDE CURIOSITY BOX...
Nah It gets too hot under the lights.

Sorry I am days behind in my replies. Hope it went well - the gig was brilliant.
HEY HEY WE'RE THE MADDIES
Boxset received safe and sound. Excellent, brilliant, well worth the wait. Can't wait for the Gatcombe Park gig, about time you played this neck of the woods. Nice short journey for me for a change, and bringing my 12 yr old son to his first concert, which coincidentally, my first gig was you lot when I was 12 in 1980 Bath pavillion with the Go Go's.
Hi chris how are you? I would like to say hello congratulations happy
anniversary to you and the rest of the band that made my childhood fun
I have a question for you I have aways wondered have you ever seen any resemblance betwwen yorselves and 60s band the monkees the humour and the inovativeness of their tv show and the way you created your classic videos? yours steven
Well, visually maybe like the Monkees. otherwise not.
Hi Chrissy Boy,
G W BUSH ESQ.
Got my boxset today, you and the boys have done us proud after all the trouble with the record company. Got tickets for hackney, newbury & norfolk showground, will soon been by 50th madness gig!. How about bad manners for hackney?
All the best
Just saw you in Sydney - where was Bedders and who was the bloke replacing him (he looked familiar!)
Bedders is TCB in the UK and his replacement is Graham Bush.
Hullo Mr Boy, or may I call you Chrissy? Anyhoo WHo sings the vocals on the downloaded version of 'On The Town' because I'm pretty certain it's not Rhoda Dakar who is on the Boxset (wonderful wonderful Boxset). Also I'm hoping that you play smaller town like mine soon (Bournemouth) I'm standing in a field for no one (also can't afford it). Also still want to see an 'unpolished' version of Mad Not Mad. (?????)
CAN'T BE DONE
It should be Rhoda. That's who we asked for.
Hello Chris. Big Maddy fan. Have all the songs on cd and vinyl, i was just wondering could i get a autograph of the band or something?
DON'T TRY TO UNDERSTAND 'EM
Dear Wayne No. Sorry.
I received my boxset today! Hooray!
ROPE EM UP AND BRAND 'EM
I feel like a little kid in a toy shop. I couldn't wait to get out my big bit of plastic...just like the old days. Been playing the cd's all day. Fabulous. You boys really done good (This time) A million thank you's. My question is...when is the next one. Can't wait.
Mark S Doherty

Got my lovely boxset, and I must say it\'s a joy to own!
My qu is: at Madstock, will there be just the one stage, or will there be more?
Madstock er 17 stages no about 3 I think. I dunno I'm upside down..
S'me again, sorry for being a time-hog. A weird one this time. I've been listening to loads of Kirsty MacColl recently and it occurred to me you were both on Stiff. Did you ever cross paths with the great woman? And to be a complete teacher's pet, take your time with the boxset, it'll be worth the wait. And to avoid sounding completely redundant...what's your personal favourite Madness track?Right that's it now. Promise.
ROLLING ROLLING ROLLING
I did meet her once or twice and she was a very nice woman. Very good songwriter in the great English tradition as well. Her Dad knew my Dad as they were both folk singers.Fav mads track? "The Prince"CB
Hi Chris. My box set arrived this morning and excellent it looks. Many thanks to you and Madness for sorting out the Trinity St problem.
KEEP 'EM COMING!
Hi Chris. My box set arrived this morning and excellent it looks. Many thanks to you and Madness for sorting out the Trinity St problem.
BOOTLEGS OR THE M SECTION
Congrats on a great show on Thurs night @ the Big Top, Luna Park - what a fitting venue for Madness to play. I know there were a series of live internet CDs (released through Concertlive) & the Hackney wristbands, but is there any chance in future of having the odd live performance recorded & released via the new website (perhaps autographed for the diehard fan?). I thought Thursdays' performance would deserve such treatment. Thanks for a great night!
There is a lot of stuff around and we have some in the M section as well.
Hi Chrissy Boy, just wanted to say hello, pay my best to you and the lads and ask:
Does the band have a favourite Kinks album?
Myself its the Golden Hour of the Kinks compilation.
Are you still a big Sgt Bilko fan? If not, who has usurped Phil Silvers from No.1?
Yes I got some episodes on DVD recently but I haven't watched it for years. I like Entourage a lot.
Has anyone heard the Blockheads new long player?
No. Well I haven't.
The whole family is looking forward to July, particularly my little un Soph who will see you guys for the first time!
Thanks. It's a good job you don't live in Aussie as you would have to wait till she's 18.
Tel, the former prince of Camberwell
PS I was thinking of Camberwell last night as someone threw a massive Camberwell carot on stage.
are the pogues playing madstock
GOD BLESS HIM WHERE HAS HE BEEN?
Yes!will that make you buy a ticket?

TAMRA AT THE LUNA PARK
just to say my box set arrived this morning hip hip hooray it is a thing of beauty. thank you boys.am i the first?
I think not and I hope not the last .
I went to the Luna Park gig last night and that was the best gig I have been to in a long while. All the crowd got into it, even me with my mobility issues.
GOLDEN TICKETS ALL GONE?
Wish I could come to V Fest just to see you guys but cant afford it.
Thanks again for the best night out.
Thanks for coming. I'm glad you enjoyed it. We certainley did.
Morning CB, have the Madstock golden circle tickets sold out? I went to the seetickets site earlier and they were listed, but went back to order them and they're not listed anymore! Thanks!
well there must be none left is what I would deduce. I can't really find out for sure at the moment.
TEA FOR 2?
Have you ever or would you ever perform 'not home today' and 'overdone' live? cant believe madstock 92 was 17 years ago, best night of my life, was my 25th birthday too, can i ask if you spoke to morrisey after the 'heckling' `? i guess thats why he never showed on the sunday?
We did Not Home today a while ago I'm sure. Overdone well I don't think so. Morrissey sadly I have lost contact with the great man but I still live in hope that one day our paths will cross.
just wondered if youd like too come round for a cp of tea and a cucumber sandwich my little girls 3 and she loves madness spesh baggy trousers cheers chris
Not really my cup of tea. Thanks though.
Hi Chris,i'm writing to humbly beg a pass for your V Festival gig in Perth WA for my son Jake.
23 YEARS LATER...
He is 17(18 in Nov 09)and has been a huge fan since he was a lad.Like Father like Son and all that Bollo. He's totally gutted it's an 18+ event and can't get in and i've pestered every contact on yer site so now it's you're turn i'm afraid.
It goes without saying i'd pay an entry fee,us ex-pats get enough ribbing bout being tight arsed in the Colonies,i'd even grow him a beard if i thought it would help, just really want him to see you guys with his old man showing him up with a bit of the old Dad dancing.
Anyways, nothing ventured and all that.Have a great tour can't wait for my Norton Folegate Vinyl to land and to see my favourite Mad Men again next week.Ps if ya get a chance whilst in WA head up to Kalamunda for a stubby or several round me pool !!
Love and Respect to all
I'm really, really sorry about this. Austalian laws you see. I only found out about two weeks before we left and belive me they are really hard on everything at the V festivals. it tokk Thommo one and a half hours to get a relative in and she wasn't undr 18.Get a fake ID for him is all I can say. Is that hard to do? Hope not.
We were at Luna Park, Sydney gig guys and you guys were awesome. We liked your new material, it was true Madness stuff and will do well. Will you be returning in 2010?
Give us a chance - we're still here!
MISSING IN ACTION
Writing from Australia. The morning after the gig last night at Sydney's Luna Park. Have to say that the gig was brilliant! Great venue, great sound and all in all top night! Have loved the ska scene for over 20 years being an ex mod. It was great seeing old smiling faces and especially old geezers giving it large on the skanking front! You haven't lost yer touch boys, well done!
Lisa G xx
I was at your gig last night at Luna park Big Top in Sydney. It was a great show, though I was disappointed that Bedders wasn't there. Is he OK?
Yes he's OK .He just had too much other stuff on that's all. He will be back. I have rung him and told him it's all going well.
dear chrissy boy good news good news good news my box set is here hoorah looking forward to playing it loads until my madstock tickets arrive and i get to see you guys again clifford
GUITAR DRIVEN ROCK BAND..
HEADS WILL ROLL
Received my boxset today and I have to say well worth the wait. Thanks for all your hard work. My fav track so far Hunchback of Torriano. What's yours
From the extra tracks - that is mine too.
About the T-shirt I meant to say why is 1978 under Madness! Shouldn't it
Yes - of course it should. some clown has decided that madness were "established" in 1979. January 1979 we were called the Invaders so that's a load of cobblers.Sack someone...
Question: Yeeeehaaaaa!!! Just got the email to say that my boxed set has
been despatched. Hope to have it in the next day or two.
