Hello. Chrissy Boy here, back where I belong.
Send me a question and I’ll answer it.
Within reason. Nothing about “when's the next gig” please. That’s
in the bit called “gigs” on the main page at the top. If you want
to just say hello to any of us, please feel free to post a comment.
Thanks CB x

Many Thanks Question: Hello Chris
Not so much of a question, but a massive thank you for Madstock last week.3 Generations of my family went & we all had a ball.So once again thank you very much for one of the best gigs ive ever been to.
Many Thanks
Jamie, Andy & Emma
Dear Jamie, Andy & Emma thanks, it's nice to hear. CB
Olympics Question: Hi Chris. I know it's a while away but with the olympics coming to London, and you being the premier band of said district, have you thought about offering your services for the official song of the games (they seem to all have them these days!)I think this would be an ideal opportunity to raise the bands global image. There is no other band that captures the feel of anything to do with London as well as yourselves do. Fantastic day at Madstock even if me and my wife did have one or two too many shandies! Riding a motorbike home 250 miles the next day complete with hangovers is not recommended! Cheers, Spoffy
Dear Spoffy Easy on there tiger. Chas has written an Olympic song ages ago. CB
Hiya Just wanted to say that having seen you guys in concert in Nottingham last Sunday (Splendour Festival) you were just as good, if not better than when I first say you in Derby in December 1979! I think that's when it was, I was still at school at the time and it was my first concert. Rosalyn
Hello Chrissy boy and of course the rest of the gang, Just to say that 11 of us went to Madstock this year and as always had a laugh, a dance and a great time (must have seen you boys about 10 times now). Even my grown up kids now want to come (scary). I remember danding to the prince with my mates at the youth club to the \'Prince\' 1979! Keep it happening fellas, nice one.Robbo
Fantastic night, well worth the trip down from Aberdeen. It just went too quickly. Have pre-ordered the USB from Victoria Park which I am looking forward to getting. Good to see you all on form, great moves for a bunch of lads who are not a young as they used to be :-) like the rest of us. Have already decided that when you do Madstock again that we will make the trip to London, though that could be expensive as both my daughters will want to go next time. Have put the boxed set of Norton Folgate on my christmas list, hopefully hubby will oblige. Enjoy the rest of the summer, hope you all get chance for a break. Big hugs, Karen xxxxxxx
Hi Chris back to ticket sales from what i saw it looked more like 40.000 is you estimation for tax purposes. Anyway been to all the madstocks my eldest was born on the 8th of August 1992 had tickets for the Sunday its all about timing. Thanks for Friday a night I will never forget and so will so many don't leave it so long for the next time hope to see you at chrimbo take care. Lawrence
Dear Lawrence OK there was ten people there right!Same birthday as me then? CB
Hi Chris, Can I just ask why Sugar & Spice was not played at Madstock if it is to be the next single from TLONF? Would love to see it released as a double-A with any of the non-single tracks you played last Friday. Aron
Just wanted to say the trip all the way from Hull to MADSTOCK was well worth it. Our first madstock and certainly wont forget it. Just need to meet you guys for pics n autographs and we will die a happy couple lol. Cheers chaps chrissy boy 2nd n Annemarie
Hiya Chris, Gotta say, possibly the best Madstock since 1992. Fantastic set, old and new, bung in an album track etc but where th f**k could I get a pint of bitter? Unfortunately (sic) I had to drink another means of alcoholic beverage! Also, how did your guitar continue playing while you waved to us lot in the Golden Circle? Not sure of the song now (due to beer) but could've almost been a Paul Daniels act. Now I like that!
Take it easy!
Fred
Dear Fred Hammer on my son, Hammer on. I was twanging with the left hand. CB
Hi Chris and all, Great Gig on the 17th! Nice to hear a DVD might of it may come out. Lastly, did that bloke get his wallet back after Suggs picked it up, or has Lee gone out on a spending spree? Ha,Ha!
I recently read the article featuring Woody on the Nottingham gig. here`s a quote from that woody said "People can think 'oh Madness, they're always around, we can catch them later.' Well, there might not be a later. We might just knock it on the head".
Can you expand on that?
I love the Norton Folgate Album when I heard the double album from the box set one of the first tracks that hit me the most was Seven Dials I just found it really catchy and Africa was just mind blowingly fantastic. The whole double album is just fantastic
Have you ever listened to any of the tracks from old albums and recent ones and thought that shouldnt be there?
The songs that didnt make the Dangermen Sessions songs like It Mek, Wonderful World, Pig Bag. Was there any of them that was recorded?
Also I read on one site there was a couple songs like idiot child which was left off "Wonderful" Why didnt they make the album?
Who chose the support for madstock and if you could choose your dream line up who would it be?
Mine would be Madness, Chas n dave, Buster Shuffle, Orange Street, The Specials Bad Manners Tony
Dear Tony Did he really say that?Yes there are lots of songs left from the Dangermen sessions. They could be b sides in years to come. CB CB
VICTORIA PARK WAS BRILLIANT!!!! CONGRATS TO YOU ALL ON A FANTASTIC PERFORMANCE IT WAS QUALITY, IT WAS NICE TO SEE ALOT OF PEOPLE MADE AN EFFORT IN DRESSING UP IN ALL THE GEAR DM'S EVERYWHERE HOPE TO SEE YOU IN DECEMBER??? CHEERS FRANKIE
I have a running debate with friends regarding the words in the intro of O.S.B. Most places on the internet now say, "it's the nuttiest sound around", my friends say "it's the nastiest sound around", and I say it really sounds like, "it's the Naziest sound around". Who's right? What is that word?
Madstock 2009!!!!!!! Question: To all 7 of you. I have to say that Madstock was quite possibly the best first gig in the world.I don’t think any thing I ever see is going to top it. I got well and truly crushed and covered in beer and I didn’t mind a bit. It does seem that all of us that were outside the golden circle had a lot more fun than those in it. Any way when you played Baggy Trousers and Night boat to Cairo something amazing happened. The atmosphere was electric and amazing, and the fact that I was laughing and dancing with people I barley knew (albeit slightly intoxicated people) and by best mate was amazing. And during the Sun and the Rain when everyone shouted “this is what life is all about” I can honestly say I said that from the heart. I can’t wait for another Madstock or gig in London. One thing though. Do you know if there is any chance of getting hold of a programme from somewhere or did they all sell out. I forgot to buy one. Cheers for an absolutely brilliant night that I’m still buzzing from Rachael
P.S no I don’t look like that.
Dear Rachael Did I answer this already? Glad you enjoyed it and I don't care what you look like. CB

thanks Rachel glad to hear it.If it's any consolation I didn't get a programme either. CB
hi chrissy boy please could you tell me how do i become a member of fanclub/to be able to gain more info on the band and get access to all areas of the website thanks brian
Dear Brian Buy a boxset and you get a card which gives you access to M CB
... we had on Madstock! Comming up from Germany, me and my wife had a brilliant week in London and a fantastic night at Madstock. Everything went well: golden circle bands were waiting for us, the atmosphere was absolute great and you, the boys and your guests done a brilliant job! Holger
Hi Chrissy, just reading through all the messages people have written to you about the behaviour of some of the madness fans and how some people were upset,But this wasnt the bands fault its was some of the fans...Id like to think after all these yrs you are now used to some gigs have a little of bit of trouble and people getting upset. And theres nothing really u can do but offer support to the fans when they email you.I think thats nice.x NOW I HAD A GREAT TIME ..IT WAS MY 1ST And to see Chas come into the dublincastle on friday was fantastic ..i was to shy to go and ask for a pic and the fans had so much respect for him as much as he did for them..maybe next yr you will all sneak in and hopefully ill dare go over to say hello.IT was brilliant day..i was in the normal bit and still got too see you all.It was my 40th celebration and it was the best and you guy are still so sexy i wish i was your wivesxxWELL DONEXX AND LOVE YOU ALL LOVE HELEN FROM NORTHEASTX
I lost a small triangular piece of flesh from my left hand; bruised my ribcage to buggery; and had to suffer a Pogues fan's stiffy poking into my back(!) - but I managed to secure and hold onto my place in the middle of the front row on Sunday night. YAY! Still can't quite believe it, but this penultimate pic here tells me it's true...
That's me just above the music stand. No wonder I'm bruised. It was brilliant though! How should I go about getting a hi res copy? Email the council? Some hope.
Excellent gig again! Thank you loads! Though I did miss That Close. Love it and have to play it several times a day. Did you leave it out because it was a different type of audience compared to Friday (deviants excepted)?
Love you and the boys so much! Please do more gigs later in the year.
Amanda xx
PS Did you go out in Nottingham afterwards? We found a curry house that was open till 4am. PPS Who did leave that grape on the stage?
Dear Amanda Very funny. The things you go through.I went home. The grapes were part of a bunch, we never found out who. CB
I was in the Golden Circle on Friday at Victoria Park and unfortunately had my wallet snatched in the opener of One Step Beyond. I still enjoyed the gig as best as I could but some of the people in that Golden Circle were scary thuggish skinheads who were off their heads. At the end of the concert the police walked off the site and refused to deal with the 50 or so fans who had been robbed in the Golden Circle and who wanted to find out what had happened to their phones, wallets and travel tickets. We waited patiently and all we were told by one security personnel bloke was that the police had walked off site (they actually walked straight through us!) and told us to go to a police station where all of the handed in possessions had been taken. I have spoken to AEG today who say that the LoveBox team were looking after all lost property but they have got back in touch to say that it is AEG who I need to speak to.
I did love the setlist and at last you changed it slightly which was great of you to do. Take It Or Leave It made it all seem better. Anyway I know one of the thugs was caught and they were foreign and I have spoken to the police but i just would like to know your opinion of events as it was far worse than any Madness gig I had been to in the past.
Thank you for your speech as well which was funny
Take care Chris
Thanks Mark Bowen
Dear Mark Really sorry to hear this. Contact the police again, they may have your wallet. The pickpockets were small time and only took the cash from wallets so you have a good chance of getting it back as hundreds were picked up after the show.In my opinion it was badly organised. thanks CB
hey chris v v disapointed with no cd single of sugar n spice love going 2 the record shop on monday morning to buy the cd single know they dont sell well now but what bout the true fans who collect the singles from the prince cmmon chris have a word please many madness fans r unhappy martin cochrane

Dear Julie Send it to madnessphotoalbum@fastmail.fm CB
Hi Chris, went to Madstock on Friday for my 40th, it was brilliant. Do you know if a DVD of it is coming out and if it does will you all sign it for me. Cheers Ian
I'm not ashamed to admit that my first Madness gig was the Splendour Festival.... but I must say that everything I've heard/read on the Madness Central Forum etc. (all the good stuff) is true... the band put on a thoroughly good show and didn't disappoint. ;)
Did you get to look into the crowd a lot? If so, you MIGHT have spotted a teddy bear being waved about during several of the songs. That was my bear :D (the 'nutter' waving it about was me). Why did I take a bear with me to the gig? 'Cos he's my special bear and is named after one of the band members. So, although we got to see his namesake... we didn't actually get to 'meet' the band member.
Loved the gig.... I'm glad that TIOLI was in the setlist. My thanks to the person who chose to add that song. (am I right in saying that it was you, Chris? ;) )
hi guys thanks for a great night on friday, we were just in front of Chris and Lee and got some fab pics, also got some 1981 ones at West Runton!! debs
Hi Chris, just thought we would like to say what a great time we had on Sat night, we were the couple stood infront of you in the front row(women in green top), first time Croline has been to Madness and can't wait until the next time. Good luck with the rest of the tour. M & C
hiya chris i went to go and see you at hackney empire last year and i thought the show was great will there be clips of the hackney shows on the new dvd? xx meggie
hi chris dropped into nick bought a pair of the american brouges black and white they look great i mentioned i was talking to you and he gave me 15 quid off so thanks for that.i saw your robots they look cool but i just prefer the rubber sole.great gig really enjoyed it especially THAT CLOSE.great to hear TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT.any idea what b-side of SUGAR & SPICE will be take care and thanks again michael farmer
Dear Micheal thanks the b side is a rare demo with Mike singing. CB
Hi bud just a wee note to say that I effin loved the gig, you guys were all ace and get better every time I see you , my two boys loved it too, and the fez hats which they still havent stopped wearing ( thanks for playing take it or leave it again it sounded ace ) all the merchandise was good apart from the programmes ( I prefer a real programme, not the plastic ones, and there wasnt a tour badge I collect them, got one from every time i have saw you so far so I was a wee bit dissapointed there wasnt one this time ) but I really enjoyed the whole day and cant wait till next time so thanks to you and all the guys from scotlands biggest madness fan ( I even got to meet thommo in the crowd before the gig, got a pic of him and my boys that I will treasure 4EVA cheers Terry B
HI CHRISSY, GOT AN IDEA FOR YOU! BECAUSE MR SMASH DOESN'T DO AS MUCH OF THE DANCE MOVES AS HE DID ALL THEM MOONS AGO WHY NOT HAVE A CHAZ SMASH DANCE OFF FOR THE YOUNGER GENERATIONS TO 'AVE A GO , THE WINNER GET'S TO TOUR WITH THE BAND AND DANCE ON STAGE . WITH A BIT OF COACHING FROM THE MASTER HIM SELF, WHAT DO'YA THINK. MARK (FELTHAM)
Dear Mark Are the caps stuck on your computer? Less is more. CB
1) The Prince 7" fades before the bass overload on all the UK compilations - what happened to it?
2) After a little investigation recently I found out the Victoria Gardens appears in different versions on Keep Moving, the One Better Day 12", and The Business. Which one was meant for the single?
and 2b) Was the band not happy with the way the track turned out - hence the different mixes?
Hi Chris and all you nutty boys!! Wanted to say what a fantastic day we had at Victoria Park Friday, we have been fans for near on the 30 years and you just keep getting better and better. We took our eleven year old daughter to see you for the first time, she knows all the words to all your songs and doesn't care when her mates don't know who you are!! it was a shame we had to get her out of the crowd as she would have got crushed and we were pushed and shoved out, terrifying for her.I think the people that were drunk and ruining it for other people should have been escorted out! Anyway love you you lot!! any chance of a signed photo for my daughter, Georgia. Look forward to seeing you again soon. Clare xx
Dear Clare I'm sorry to hear that. I'll see what I can do. CB
Thanks very much to you for a brilliant, amazing, wonderful long weekend of gigs. Much happiness to you all. You can sit down and have a well-earned beverage now.
Quick question about the old days: can you remember who dressed up as the white cat in the garden in the Tomorrow’s (Just Another Day) video? My maths never was good, but I count eight people, not the usual seven…
Ta v much again, Yvonne
PS And who did leave the grape on stage at Madstock?
Dear Yvonne The cat was Thommo [I think] separate shot. The grapes? I don't know, there was a bunch of 'em. CB
Hi Chris! Friday at Victoria Park was fantastic, thanks! Actually, HMV on Oxford Street was pretty fab too! So, I'm now looking forward to Summer Madness on the hopefully Sunny Isle of Wight. Any clues as to who your support bands will be please? deanne
I really must protest most strongly that, after the excellent day out on Friday, which began with a gallon of Dublin castle cider, progressed through a warm bottle of Buckfast in the park, and continued with a variety of aperitifs into the evening, PLUS entertainment, I was not then accompanied on my exit by a highly-trained local guide to get me safely to my train home.
thus unaccompanied, I (and, regretably, the wife) took a completely wrong turn and struck off in a south-easterly direction, as opposed to the north-west route that would have taken us to Cambridge 'Eef and the last train to 'Arlow. had it not been for a kind cabbie, willing to take a crisp Scottish £10 note for the trouble of a 60mph mercy dash over the speed bumps of Roman Road, getting us to the platform a comfortable 30 seconds ahead of the train, we'd have been reduced to sleeping rough under my kilt.
I hope future Madstocks will take better note of the late-night navigational needs of drunk Scottish people.
Hi Chris, just wanted to say what how brilliant Madstock was. My boyfriend and i had a fantastic time. And also could you thank Suggs for me. We met him at Hackney last year and I asked if you would come to Nottingham... And you did Splendour(my dream come true) which was also an amazing day. A mad mad Madness weekend... Thank you all Mandy n Mick xx
Hi Chris, take a look at my company! We are a bike stunt team called MAD who have been around in the UK for over 12 years. We do gigs! Could we do a MADNESS Gig?? Cheers Giles
Dear Giles If you had said this before Madstock, we could have got you to do something.Next time. CB
Hey CB. i know i'm annoying and i'm very sorry but 2 things have been bothering me. Number 1 on one of the episodes of The Young ones why was bedders playing drums and Woody bass? Number 2 At the Gatcombe gig who were the 2 girls on stage at the end in Night boat to Cairo? Were they marks kids or woodys? Leah x Leah
In 'The Business' you spoke about the writing of Baggy Trousers had been credited to you, Mike, and Suggs, when it had been just you and Suggs. When was Mikes name taken off the credits? PS You and Mike are my favourites. Neil Gregg
Dear Neil As soon as I saw it! Suggs gave them [Stiff records] the credits. Good old Suggs. thanks CB
thanks for sortng out the golden circle debacle - i bet at times you wish you could have closed the cupboard and locked the door. I must admit I emailed you as I did get concerned, but the tickets turned up in time, so I'm glad I kept the faith you asked us to.
Just wanted to say I was in the golden circle on friday with my 9 year old step son (his first ever concert) and we had a great time. There was a bit of pushing etc, but mainly from people dancing, and to be honest every time that i was pushed that person immediately apologised.
Im guessing there may have been a few idiots but generally I have to say most of the crowd were impeccable.
I hope that those idiots don't spoil you're idea of having a golden circle as I felt it was safer to be in towards the back back of there, that in the general admission.
Lastly the concert was great, I cant understand why some people have complained about the sound - perhaps they need hearing tests.
Finally - just wanted to say what an excellent performance at Romsey Saturday night - went with 4 friends and was amazed how much energy you all had after what must have been a frantic 24hrs at madstock.
Looking forward to seeing you at the Isle of Wight in august
Simon
PS. Suggs suit was something else - you ever going to borrow it off the big man???
Thanks Simon Suggs suit is too long in the legs.. CB
Hi there. Just to say had a wow day on friday you boys just keep getting better. and on sunday i couldn't get to wollaton park (i'm a nottingham lass)but i could hear you in my back garden. i just shut my eyes and pretended. thanx again Carrie
Dear Madness, I saw you yesterday for the 14th time (since Madstock 92). I was with 9 of my mates for my stag do. They'd all seen you before as well. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Great festival, well organised, lovely crowd, nice Police, great value for money. You did a fantastic set, and as usual, it was great to hear the new material ( I hope you keep creating new material indefinitely). Kid British are the best new band I've heard in a long time, I'm going to get their album. Did any of you get to see them? If so, what did you think. Coventry's Cheekiest Charmer
Dear CCC Thanks I didn't see them but of course I love that single.Glad your stag do was in the UK and not Prague or somewhere. Carbon er footprint you know.Says private jet boy. CB
Just recovering from the two amazing gigs!!! Madstock and the Splendour Festival in Notts. Had a great time at both and as usual you were fantastic. Got to the front at both gigs, involved hours of waiting but to see Madness i'd wait a million years!! Did you like the flag that I made and had at Madstock?, took me hours to make that and I nearly got murdered for it by getting neon yellow paint on my dads newly painted white walls! hahahha! Oh what fun I had! Lost my voice from all the screaming, shouting/singing I've done at the gigs. Tell carl I love him heheh! Jen xxxx
Not a question mate! I would just like to say that I really appreciate everything you do on here. I remember Chas saying he closed his web page down because it was becoming more of an agony aunt page, and I dont want you to feel the same mate. You provide a good service on here and I think its about time people should realise that they sometimes need a bit of common sense, i.e. when they ask daft questions for which if they took a little more time to GOOGLE it, they would probably come up with the same answer you would give them. I truly feel sorry for you at the moment, you are in the middle of the bands 30TH anniversary and we have had the golden circle, the trinity shit, box sets, the Madstock pick pockets and now the u.s.b. problems, and every time you have shown great dignity and patience, you are an asset to the world of Madness.......people please just contact the company that created these problems, I am sure Chris would put a litle something on the home page if he had any advice he thought would help any fellow Maddie. Lastly mate, I was punched up and robbed at Madstock, (that's for me to sort out) and I know others were too, however, strangely, I still had a bloody great day out, I have seen you boys all over the country over many years, and I wasn't gonna let a bunch of pratts ruin my experience. It was the best you guys ever sounded and top marks to whoever came up with the setlist, absolutely fantastic,as were the support and the special guests. Well done to all seven of you, especially your good self, and despite the problems.........roll on the next Madstock!! ps rant over!!!!!!!!!! nuttytoffee
Dear nuttytoffee It is not for you to sort out my man. You will be contacted soon thanks and all the best Chris
Dear Chris, i think in all my excitement and tiredness when i emailed you last night i said that Barso nearly fell over the brolly i meant chas doh....!!! Nicole Pettus
This is definately not a gigs question just a short prayer (appologies to athiests)
Our Father, who dances in heaven, O2 be thy name. Thy concert come, thy Dome will be done, on earth as it is in Greenwich Give us this day our daily Ska And forgive us our Christmas, as we forgive those who rock the O2 in December. And lead us not into the Thames, but deliver us from SkaVille. For thine is the hope-dom, the Skamking and the Dome. for ever and ever. Amen
madmick
Dear Madmick Very amusing but I don't think you have to apologise to the Atheists somehow. CB
Was at madstock on friday and would just like to say it was yet another blinding gig. Also what a great line up of bands you put on. Keep up the good work. Look forward to seeing you on your xmas tour!!!!
Madstock was great but was expecting slightly better things from the golden circle. We didn't get there quite as early as we wanted to due to crap weather and the fact that it was the busiest day of the year on the roads. But we managed to see the Blockheads then the pogues enjojing the music inbetween got talking to people around us including a family beside us right at the front. When you came on loads of tossers were squashing us and trying to get to the front. I know thats what you get at concerts but we'v always been at the front b4 and had no trouble. If you want to be at the front and see you beauties close up go straight in and wait if you want to get as much booze back your neck go beer tent then come in and watch them where you can don't spoil it for everyone else. Its called having a bit of respect sorry to moan you guys were great roll on the next one. Anita
Dear CB I have written to the Chief Editor of the Oxford English Dictionary on your behalf, to have the term "Gold Circle" removed from the next edition of the publication. Would you also like me to contact them again and request the removal of "USB Stick"?? Yours LB
Splendour being the only word for it, mate. Thought you were outstanding. Approx the 15th time I've seen you but that one was really up there - and have allegations of your supposed grumpiness at gigs prompted your gregarious involvements on the mic? Quality, Chris, absolute quality! Big E
Thanks Big E My Grumpiness is often caused by concentration which some people think means I am not enjoying it. CB
Hi CB, You performed great at the Romsey venue. Absolutely loved it.Im just sorry that you had to put up with beered up louts throwing bottles at the band.I could see you were not particularly amused.Maybe you're used to this sort of thing, but Im glad that you didnt just turn around and go home. Thanks for a great night, and sorry it couldnt have been better for you. All the best.Antony
Dear Antony It happens a lot these days. I'm glad they are made of plastic... thanks CB
hey crissy boy.... madstock was the best day of my life. i met suggs at about 3pm. i saw him and said "alright suggsy, hows you?" he grabbed my hand and said "hello govner, how are you" that made me really happy, also his suit was amazing, where did he get it? before the blockheads came on, we were right at the front and said that we would stay there until the end. the blockheads were very good, i was suprised because i only knew 3 of their songs. when the pogues ca on the seas got abit choppy, some people were violent and hurt me abit, ah well, what do you expect? also, shane wasnt in the best state was he? still good tho. when you came on and chas started to do the one step beyond bit, i knew i was in for a bashing, when the music started i was jumping around with all these drunk man shouting and singing. sadly, my mum said that she was hurt and left. my foot really hurt too because some bloke hand stopped on it to get my place. i shouted to the security to get me and my dad out and they lifted us over. i put my thumbs up to you but you didnt see :( when we got back my mum said she wasnt feeling gr8 and she stayed away. she had hit sumbody in the eye aswell. me and my dad went back in wen take it or leave it was playing, but abit further back. from then it was gr8, really friendly people and singing along all night. i loved house of fun with the big balloon things. the funny part was somebody came up to me and said "you were the guy on the big screens being carried over the fence" that did make me chuckle, she said we were on the big screens. so yeah, it was brilliant mate, you were all brill and had a very good time, good choice of line up and a great day out. thank you very much for answering all my questions and worries about the gold circle, and we will be going to summer madness on the isle of wite on the 30th.
i have 2 questions- 1. will there be a madstock again? 2. what do you think of man like me? im suprised they are not very famous.
thanks CB jack
Dear Jack What an adventure! I'm glad you were OK. Another Madstock? In a few years maybe.Man Like Me are good, I hope they hit it off. CB
Chris i would just like to say thank you for putting on a great show on friday nite guys,i was in the golden circle and the atmosphere was amazing,i would just like to ask,is there gonna be a dvd coming out from madstock this year? Regards Darren

Chris, 1st of all Friday at Madstock was tip top fantastic show. Question, where did Suggs get that suit from ? all the best see you all again soon. Nig
Dear Nig He had it made..er...I don't know who by though. thanks CB
hi chris, i took my 7 year old son to madstock on friday and he loved every minute of it, trouble is since we returned home he cant stop singing baggy trousers and this has spread to my 4 year old too... is there a cure? simon
Dear Simon No - let them work it out of their systems. Thanks CB
I really enjoyed the show at Exit last weekend. What did you think of the the atmosphere at Novi Sad? Please come back to Central Europe again.
I think that Madness would be great at also performing Central European Gypsy music. Perhaps this could be considered for something for us for next year?!
Heard about Louise gettin punched and saw Barry's wife being taken over the barrier, just wanted to check they are both ok. I cant seem to be able to leave comments! Also think the evenin events should have been for over 16's! Also hope everyone got some kind of compensation for you lost valubles!?! Also ne1 no the bloke whos neck was bleedin? I hope to go to another gig soon but I dnt think I will do it again to soon! As some of ur so called fans were well to put it blank knobs for the incidence tht occured! x
Hi Chris just want to say a big thank for making my day on sunday at splendour. The only down side was the weather.once again thank you, you are a gent Chrissy-boy. Best wishes Bazza
First of all just like to congratulate you on a storming set and a generally well organised madstock. Loved the location, all the food and drink places and the waltzers!. My only gripe would be the Gold Circle and the way it separated the fans on a basis of who could and couldnt afford it. It really goes against all I thought Madness stood for. Not only that, it created a nasty atmosphere with those that were kept miles away from the stage baying for blood. I doubt the gold circle was the band's idea but it need's to be done away with if there is a next time (I hope there is!) BillyJoeJimBob
Dear BillyJoe I totally agree. It was a bad idea.I didn't know how many tickets we had sold. I thought it was a small area across the front of the stage. This delusion on my part was caused by the Trinty Street fiasco when I was told we had only sold 1000 tickets. CB
I would like to thank Carl, Dan and Suggs for taking the time to come over and sign my Scooter and my daughters birthday card, but most of all I would like to thank yourself for setting up the oppotunity and also signing, I realise how busy you all are, one thing that comes across it that you are all very approachable, this also comes across during 'Showtime'. If you see or speak to Rhoda would you pass on my gratitude for her signature.
Once again the gig was awesome, the energy that oozed from the stage was fantastic, the playing of Take It Or Leave It was a bonus and what a treat when not only Rhoda came on but Jerry Dammers too, his band were good to be fair, as were the Blockheads, The Aggrolites and The Pogues.
My task is to try and catch hold of Lee, Mike and Mark to complete the set, that should be fun perhaps they will take in the Scooters on the Isle of Wight and I'll get lucky, you never can tell.
Whilst I'm at it I'd like to thank Mel, Jamie and your Manager, who's name, I'm embarrassed to say, I have forgotten, for their help in getting me your signatures.
Really looking forward to the IoW, Scooters and Madness who could ask for a better weekend.
Dear Chris The band looked and sounded great on Friday but please next time you announce a Madstock, fight against this Golden Ticket rubbish....I was punched and had my wallet stolen, security didnt give a monkeys and as hard as I tried to enjoy the rest of the evening I couldnt and speaking to police over the weekend it is estimated 300ish people suffered a very similar experience... however, that said I have followed Madness since 1979 and class myself so, so lucky that the group of musicians I have grown up with are still selling out stadiums, arean's headlining festivals and best of all releasing brand new quaility tracks..you must (should) be very proud of yourselves!! PS when you do your next Madcam could you try and get an interview with a certain bloke who stands to your right on stage..not Suggs or Chas but the HUGE sunglasses wearing Mark Bedford...I would love to see/hear Bedders look on life and all things Madness... regards Melv..
Dear Melv Points well taken - no more Golden Circle.Bedders hates the attention. thanks CB
Thanks for the reply Chris but its Mark not Mike or Shaz , see you at IOW i'll be staying at the inlaws in Carisbrook lovely jubbly Oi Oi PS Got me math wrong i was 13 in 1979 Mark Leahy
Sorry Mark It said Mike and Shaz. Did they send exactly the same message? CB
Howdo Chris, You guys were awesome at the Splendour Festival (at least it only rained while the Pogues were on....I think that was Shane McGowans grape on stage), but is Suggsy really going to buy Wollaton Hall and if he does are you all going to live in it? Keep doing what you all do best! All the best, Graham
Hi chris the email below was what i sent on your other e mail link and was picked up by liz...
As a loyal fan as ever could be having bought all the albums in every format every time they have been released from vinyl to tape to cd etc, I was so excited when I saw that there was to be another "Madstock" having gone to the very first in 92.
I bought my tickets 6 months prior to the gig in extreme excitement.
Coming from Leeds and with the gig being held on a Friday, I booked the day off work, managed to get baby sitters for my 3 children for the evening and next day (which wasn't easy) and travelled down from Leeds with my wife by car.
To say it was a journey from hell is an understatement! Bad traffic all the way down made the journey into an 8 hour nightmare but still I couldn't have cared because I was going down to see MY band.
We got to Tower Hamlets but didn't have a clue where to go because there were absolutely no signs anywhere to the park and we arrived very late in the torrential rain but still I didn't care because I was there to see MY band.
I bought a programme and an official Tee shirt and then went to the stage where Gregory Isaac was on followed by the abba tribute.
I was then surprised to see everyone leave as I didn't realise that there was another stage.
I was a bit disappointed because I missed Jerry Dammers turn and I really wanted to see that but at least I was going to see MY band.
So I walked round the corner to a much bigger field. I was about a mile away from the stage but couldn't get any nearer because there was a bloody great barrier preventing me from doing so. I was caught up with a mass crowd of irate people of which I asked several of them why there was a barrier between me and MY band. They told me that over the barrier was the VIP Golden Circle???? I asked all of them what that meant and they were all clueless and didn't know.
What it meant to me was that I had to watch MY BAND from the big screen because I couldn't see them because I was so far away and I couldn't hear properly either.
I heard Chrissy Boy mention near the end something about it but being so far away and surrounded by shouting people I missed what he said about it.
To summarise I am a loyal fan that really went out of my way to get to the gig and i was treated like a piece of cattle grazing on a bloody field totally out of the atmosphere and might as well have stayed at home.!!!!!
But could someone please tell me what this "Golden Circle" is and how you become part of it because if I am not a loyal fan then I don't know what counts as being one.
Yours Matt Handley
Ps. I went to see "The Specials" in Leeds a few weeks ago. I was right at the front and it was fantastic.... no golden circle in sight!
Dear Matt The Golden Circle was a total mistake. I didn't know how big it was until the day before the gig. We sold about 4500 tickets at £45. I thought it was 800. Big mistake. Sorry CB
just wanted to say how much i enjoyed the gig in Nottingham yesterday...the music was fantastic and so was the entertainment - i have wanted to see madness for years and it exceeded my expectations. And that was even after Huey from the Fun Lovin Criminals who, let's face it, is top totty. Cheers for an absolutely brilliant night! vicky
good gig at victoria park was staying just off kilburn high road got the tray the pogues were head butting on stage i saw more from this madstock than any of the other madstocks also i think with the vip tickets Carisbrooke Castle Fields iow it is about £25 difference standard £38.50 vip £64.00 can you look into this chris please don
Dear Don Do NOT buy VIP tickets for Carisbrooke Castle. CB
Dear Chris, thanks for a cracking show in Nottingham. The wife and eldest son (6) were getting a bit fed up hanging around in the rain all afternoon, but once you lot came on, it made it all worthwhile. I'm proud to say my son Harry knows all the words now. One day he might be tall enough to see the stage without spending the whole show sat on my shoulders! Thanks again, Regards Graham.
thanks for persevering Graham. How much does he weigh? At 6 it must be quite a bit.. CB
Went to Romsey saturday, what a show !!!!! are they selling memory sticks for this gig?????
Where did the name Liberty of Norton Folgate come from????
Long may Madness continue ........
Paul
Dear Paul There are no memory sticks as far as I know.I don't think there's any memory sticks.Norton Folgate is; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norton_Folgate CB
I've travelled to 4 out of 5 Madstocks all the way from sunny Jersey, been to a few other gigs too, and i believe you guys put on the best show i've seen!!! as with other comments i have to agree it did seem as there was a bit too much aggresion in the golden circle! and as for the pick pockets! well...? i was robbed! i felt wallet being taken but as my hands were trapped above chest level i cold do nothing about it! but i think the culprit must have dropped it as it was returned to me with all cash still inside :-) big thanks to the fellow who passed it back to me!!. unfortunatly dozens of other fans were not so lucky!!! we also moved back as i hurt my neck as some 14 stone skinhead was litrally thrown over my head and pulled down by security! anyway the show as i said was stunning especialy that suit! cheers! see you next time. ps great vibe all day in the Dublin Castle :-) Shaun
Dear Shaun I'm glad you got your wallet back intact. CB
I reckon that Madstock was absolutely fantastic. I was in the Golden Circle but didn't have any problems. I ended up right at the front, right in the the thick of it but it was great. My feet didn't touch the ground for about 10 minutes but it was great fun!
I've heard a few bad reports about the Golden circle but there didn't seem to be any trouble by me. Everyone was in really good spirits and jumping and dancing like mad things (me included) but that's what it's all about. There always has to be some poor idiots who can't handle their drink and try to spoil it for everyone else but they are in the minority. I reckon the Golden Circle was a great idea!
my best mate and his wife came over from ireland after we got some tickets for this gig, my son and his girlfriend also came, we managed to get right at the barriers just right off centre. Brilliant gig guys absolutely first class.didn't even mind getting a bit damp early doors. Just like to add one of my mates had told me you weren't any good live. What a t..t, you are without a doubt the dogs nadgers. Cheers Charlie
Hi Chrissy Just home after a fantastic festival......This was the 5th time i have seen you guys and the 1st since 1992...what can i say....you get better every time...thanks for a wicked evening...P.S....How much booze can Shane McGowan put away......cant speak but hit the lyrics word perfect.....weird!! Thanks...Mark Troughton
Not a question at all. After reading some fans terrible experiences of thefts from personage and some idiots being over-exhuberant I do hope they will get over their experience and continue to love the band for what you are... I didnt witness any bad behaviour and remained uncrushed at the front directly in front of your good self. It was sad to see some personal belongings, empty wallets lying around at the end and I passed a couple over the fence but expected that they had already been emptied. But on a slightly Jollier note, the performance was great, the toilet facilities unusually were good, more importantly the drinks prices reasonable.... All the best to the lads and see you again soon, hopefully.... Mr ScUrF
We come to your gigs every year, the best yet. Was it my wallet that got thrown on stage as I missed the part when Suggs read out the name. I was near the front of the stage and it had all my bank cards inside. Can't wait for the next show. Antony Adkins
Dear Anthony Did you not think to ask afterwards? I don't think you 'lost' it.. CB
Absolute class act on Friday Chrissy Boy! I've had a massive smile on my face and a head full of Madness tunes ever since! Loved 'Take it or Leave it' wasn't expecting that, and the new album tracks definitely stand up against the classics. Best band in the world. Fact!
Do you happen to know a Jamie Chalmers (Jam) by the way? Went to uni with his brother. Top bloke! Cheers Dave
Thanks Dave So Jam's [Jamie Chalmers]brother is a top bloke then? So's he.. CB
Dear Chris, I'm shocked to read about what happened in the Golden Circle, but I was more shocked too see parents taking there young kids so close to the stage. I mean Madness is not a speed metal band, but Madness is also not K3 (Belgium kids group). People tend to dance wild and crazy during a Madness gig. And usually this is done in the moshpit. I do not condone standing on someone, peeing on the field hitting or pushing someone. But I do believe that it's as much the fault of the parents to take 'really' young kids up close to a band as it is the w*nkers who get drunk and misbehave. I know Madness has always done extra for kids, so why not set-up a Platinum circle just for 12 and below.... Only problem then is that you will get golden AND platinum questions thrown at you...;)
By the way, I loved it, from the moment we entered Victoria Park, to the time we left and walked all the way back to Liverpool Street Travel Lodge. You guys are still the best!!
Thanks Andre I think we'll give all that circle stuff a miss from now on... CB
Hi Chris Just wanted to drop you a line to say what a wonderful gig at Broadlands on Saturday - first class!!!! And thank you so much for playing Grey Day, it bought back a lot of memories and nice too that I bumped into people from school that I hadn't seen for years. We maybe quite a few years older than when we danced to it the first time round, but you did us all proud. Please pass on my thanks to the rest of the band.
Roll on the next one in Broadlands in years to come???
Had a great time at Madstock , the weather turned out a lot better than the forecast. Thought Jerry Dammers , The Blockheads and The Pogues were all excellent. Madness as always were fantastic , great to hear a lot of the new songs . Did you and the rest of the band enjoy it as much as the fans ?
Johnny
Dear Johnny It was a bit of a pressure. London gigs always are.Good though. All the family wants tickets. CB
Hi Chris, really sorry to hear of people having stuff nicked etc. The wife and I had a great time. I didn't take my wallet, just enough cash in my front pocket. We stuck to the mid to rear of the gold circle crowd as the wife is not as mad as me and breaks easily and to avoid the inevitable p1$$ heads. You can not be blamed for people not looking after themselves and the people they are with or poor security. Cheers Chris it was a great set and performance as usual
Just wanted to say that Friday was marvelous, you lot were brilliant and it was a pleasure to get the crap knocked out of me in the name of great music - esp enjoyed TLONF live. In reference to Mike and Shaz's comment - I was in the Golden Circle and I am a complete Tosser.
Do you still keep in touch with " the bed and breakfast man"? ANd if so what does he do now?
(P.s. came down form glasgow for the victoria park gig. Great time , and hope i can see you again in 2010 to mark the 30th anniverary of my first ever (madness) gig at the glasgow apollo) John Stark
Dear John He lives in Edinburgh. I filmed him for the meet and greet and then deleted it! The Apollo - aboslute brilliant gigs there. CB
Awesome day Chris... thanks for the dedication on It Must Be Love... made our wedding day extra special. Blinding gig and the sound wasn't crap!! Allie xx
First and foremost many thanks for all the enjoyment you have provided over the past 30 years.
Just a few quick questions please.. Can you confirm if Suggs is in the process of writing a book? Chas, at Madstock referred to TLONF selling 9 million copies - is that true? Lastly, just who are those very nice young ladies who play strings, and are they single!? Cheers R.Wakeley
Dear Robert Thanks. Suggs is writing a book on London, Chas was jesting it's nowhere near that figure.Yet. I don't know thw marital status of thestring players. CB
Just saw you all at Splendour in Nottingham, have also seen you in Budapest and Manchester. You are without a doubt the best band ever and still doing it! You must get the Brit awards for life time achievers next. Anyway enough of the creeping, my husband who is you second biggest fan, after me obviously, though he would dispute that, anyway he is 40 on September 30th, its a milestone birthday and he would be thrilled to have something from his favourite band, can you suggest anything that would blow his head off to open as a present? Thanks for keeping us entertained for all these years! Jo Edwards xx
Hi I just wanted to say it was amazing. The best first gig in the world and i dont rekon ill ever top it. Cheers Boys. I just wanted to know, is it possible to get hold of a programme (cos i stupidly forgot to buy one) and is there any plans for a dvd? Cheers Rachael P.s Chris no i odnt look like that.! ^_^
Dear Rachael I wouldn't care if you did. Programmes I don't know, I didn't even get one. A DVD who knows when? thanks CB
Hi Chris, Massive Madness fan from Notts missed the gig last night due to family commitments, gutted not to be there, just wondered how the night went and i hope you enjoyed Nottingham, very depressed Mark.
Dear Mark er I hate to say it, but it was really good, a very nice setting. CB
Msdstock was fantastic. Glad the rain stayed off during your set. We travelled up from Cardiff and met lots of great people some who'd come over from Australia and Holland.
It was a really well organised event. Was gutted I just missed Jerry Dammers so was so happy when he came on for the encore.
Rhoda was fantastic (as always). Madness' set was varied and it was great to hear 'Take It Or Leave It' and 'The Liberty Of Norton Folgate'.
Had a great time in the Dublin castle before the gig - THANKS TO DEL AND GARY FOR THE BEERS! Oh, and the fan tv thing is a fantastic idea.
Only downer was the pickpockets in the Golden Circle. Quite a few people down the front had their wallets, cameras and phones nicked.
Nice to meet you again, albeit briefly at Madstock my fine fellow. Excellent gig once more and here's hoping for more of the same in the near future. Hope you enjoy the book...Gordy 'The Amphetameanie', should be able to translate it for you....The 'rasharshs' joke shall be used at a big dinner towards the end of the year.
See you when I see you.
Regards,
The Dug
Dear Dug I've nae had time tae read it yet, y'ken? CB
Thanks for such a great show, I loved it and will always remember Madstock 09. It was my second ever gig, was right down at the front.
It's a shame about the pick pocketers though, I've heard a few stories of organized crime and people being hit. It's a shame as other than that it was the perfect day.
not a question Chris just a few comments xx Madstock was great, all the band looked fantastic! made my night you played "On The Town" my fav new song .... seen few fans at the airport wearing the fez's big smiles always good to see ! Take care Jill
Hello again, I was at Victoria Park on friday like yourself and many others obviuosly..!!! We had been on our feet since 4am but when you lot came on i had more energy than my 9 year old son. I was at the front, it sounded great to me. It was a great day from start to finish even with the rain. I got a great souvenir from the day, suggs's brolly, it was blowing all over the place, and at one point Barso nearly fell over it, he said a few choice words then put it at the edge of the stage where it eventually blew off. A photographer put it under the stage so when the gig was finished(boo-hoo) i got it from a security man who looked at me as if i was daft as he had to crawl under the stage to get it(lovely man). The umbrella has since been to Upton Park (where we stayed) Camden Town, London Bridge, Gatwick Airport, Glasgow Airport and eventually home with me to Paisley. Could you ask Suggs if he wants it back and if he does i will gladly return it. Cant wait for Mad stock to come out on dvd so i can relive the day again and again. A very appreciative and long time fan. xXx Nicole Pettus
Well done, Nicole. I don't think he wants it back... CB
Had a cracking time at Madstock. Who decided to pull Take It Or Leave It out for an airing? A great surprise,I nearly choked on my bacon roll. Do you all decide the setlist or is it down to one person? All the best, Jez
Dear Jez I think it was our soundman, Dad. Woody does the setlists and we all argue a bit. CB
Crushed!Battered!Bruised!loved every minute of it!Thanks you guys for makin mine an my buddies trip from aberdeen so worthwhile(knew it would be!)dont think my legs will ever be the same! You nutty boys just keep gettin better every time i see you!Lovin your new album keep up the good work guys lynette xx
Just wanted to thank you for an excellent two days. Really enjoyed it on both days. Glad you played That Close and Norton Folgate for Madstock. It was also nice to see that the band really did seem to be enjoying and having fun performing House of Fun at Romsey. Hope Lee is o.k after ending up flat on the stage at Romsey.
What other instruments do you guys play other than the ones we associate you with ? By the way Norton Folgate...gets better every time you listen to it. I think it's your purest Madness album to date. Lee James
Dear Lee Most of us play keyboards in some form. Chas can play anything really. Bedders plays double bass and he is very good on the ukelele.I just found out how/why! CB PS CONGRATULATIONS! YOU ARE MY 2000th customer! You will be contacted shortly.
Slowly recovering from Friday. Had a week in Malta with my two kids. Bumped into a maltese bloke with a Madness t-shirt on at the airport who was flying over for the gig. I landed at Gatwick at 9.30am. Drove upto Sheffield to drop kids off and pick mate up. Drove back down, stuck in horrendous traffic and weather. Only at jnc 11 by 6.30pm so pulled off at Luton to catch train. Got to Victoria Park just after 8pm. Drove back upto Sheffield after gig, dropped mate off, then drove home to Cleethorpes. Got home at 6am, showered and changed, at work for 8am, finished at 6pm and I've slept ever since. Worth every sleepless hour, you were absolutely amazing!! As for the wallet, the pickpockets were having a field day the thieving b'stards!! Bully
Dear Bully Oh dear - sorry. thanks for all the effort though.I have sent your details to our team. CB
Hi Chris, Just to say that Madstock was amazing, it was the first ever one I have attended and you can tell Suggs that not all of the teenagers were dragged by their parents (as he said on his radio interview.) Also, how are Lee Thompson's ribs? I watched in awe on TV when he 'flew' during baggy trousers even with his broken ribs and just wondered if he damaged them futher by doing that and is that why he didn't redo the stunt on Friday? Many thanks, Laura.
Dear Laura His ribs are Ok. We didn't have the facility on Friday. CB
i just wnt to say tht madness is the best puing in ur mind tht im 17 and i aint one off them sad acts who just sit around do u think tht its sad tht i now all the lyrics to most songs thnks when next g*g ryan
hey, just got to say friday was my first festival and i couldnt have enjoyed it more, loved all the music and was glad i knew most songs :) I've been wanting to see you guys for years and finnaly got the chance, and loved it. Thanks for putting on a great show. P.S. Suggs your suit was fab. Hope to see you guys again soon. xxNickyxx
hello krissy boy really enjoyed madstock me and my girlfriend were at the front of that golden circle and enjoyed the golden showers and sunshine great set but was dissapointed not to here sugar and spice or idiot child from new album it was good to hear take it or leave it taller than you are and all the new stuff and when you ask did anybody email you i surely did. keep up the good work and i believe i was next to mike barsons daughter who was wearing a black top saying madame barso thanks for the madness clifford
Dear Clifford That's not Mike's daughter! - it's Emma AKA Mdme Barso. CB
Wonderful! Thanks Chris, and please pass that on to "The Boys" -as my little girl now calls you. We stood and sat at the back of the Golden Circle (great idea that)and the nice security man let Helen take her collapsable garden chair in. Smashing sound/view/room to dance. And no hassle. Oh, Helen says next time you "pretend" to go off before the encore, that we should all hide!
"Take it or leave it" was a lovely surprise and TLONF is genius and a real treat to hear live.
I did put my hand up when asked and can only apologise for my panic and lack of faith - never again. Oh, except where's my Madstock USB? Mat, Helen and Livvy(5)
Firstly, an outstanding evening - thanks guys. Glad of a few new slowish songs half way through as my legs and feet cannot take it anymore ! My calfs are still incredibly sore ! Being towards the back though from your eyes CB of to the left of that centre structure thing the sound did seem to get lost at times, maybe on the wind caught it I dont know. But Usually the ringing in my ears overpowers the noise my better half makes the following morning, but not this time. Still, was a great night had, and worth the trip from North Somerset. Dont leave it 12 years for the next Maddie please. Cheers, Gelboy
Hi CB, Just wanted to say ta for probably one of the best days of my life(aft the kids births and marrying my lovely hubby. Madstock was all i expected and more, too many highlights to mention. Thanks to you all and bring on the next one soon. Nicky xx
Last Night's gig Question: You are an absolute legand Chris!! Last night's gig would have to be one of your best yet! Apart from when thoes two men in the crowd started to fight and it slightly scared me but it didnt stop me from dancing about to your songs. Well Done xx ((and thanks for letting me have a great night x)) Georgia MacLeod
Hi, sent you a question about a week ago regarding what type of sunglasses Suggs wore at Glastonbury, thought I might have heard back from you by now? Simon
Dear Simon They are made by Persol. http://www.persol.com/Welcome.html CB
hi cb. thanks so much for a fantastic night at madstock,i bought the usb key of that nights gig and had another party when we got home.i couldn't believe the amount of wallets found and handed to the security people, its nice to see so many honest people that night. thanks again. stuart.
Dear Stuart Yeah right they were empty though. thanks CB
I have to laugh at all the post-Madstock comments about sore muscles and weary bones. Have we all gotten that old?! I know the new record has put a welcome bounce in my middle-aged step.
So I want to ask... what's it like to be YOU at 52, up on that stage bouncing around and carrying on?! Hope it brings you as much joy as it does us fans. -Chrissy Girl xx
Dear CG It does get a bit hard these days, that guitar weighs a ton.. CB
Hi Chris Have finally recovered from Madstock! the DM's took a pasting but it was well worth it. Thought the new tunes sounded amazing and the old ones just get better! As always a superb performance from the boys. Have you heard the sample of "Our House" on a tune by Kid Britsh called Our house(is Dadless)? Keithy Boy
Dear Keithy Boy Yes - we had to approve it. thanks CB
madstock Question: well done lads another winner thanks for the song chris like the the band man like me when will Orville fly again??? lol love you lee don
hi to you all (madness) and of course you chissy. just wanted to say a big mad thanks for a great gig friday. couldn't stop dancing. great to see you again love deborah x x x
What a show Madstock was... well done! Dont leave it so long next time. What i was having a wonder about was what do the band do after the gig? especially when you do 3 consecutive nights...do you gohome....do you go outon the pop....or something else..????
thanks for selling xxl t shirts too
all the best squire
neil neil orange peel
Dear Neil I went home.I had a gig the next day, you know. CB
The look on my two youngsters' faces as, "Hey you, don't watch that, watch this......" (lines which they had been learning incessantly for two weeks prior to the concert), were belted from the stage, accompanied by X thousand excited Madness devotees - PRICELESS!! (Well certainly worth the admission ticket prices anyway!)
What a day and what a night! Incredibly well organised; right down to imaginative catering and plenty of easily accessible loos - Well done to everyone involved!
30 years in the business? Maybe so. But far from becoming jaded, predictable or surpassed. The new material fitted-in seamlessly within the set without alongside faithful Madness tunes. Absolutely brilliant - Madstock 2009 @ Victoria Park - Loved it, loved it, loved it!!
One question - There were one or two properly-kitted out/official looking film crews mingling, particularly during the daylight hours. Can it be assumed that this relates to a compilation of a forthcoming Madstock 2009 DVD? If so, any details as-yet regarding proposed release date and place of purchase?
Hi CB, I would just like to say that Madstock was a superb show - Take it or Leave It and That Close were my highlights, and of course Night Boat. I especially loved you shredding the guitar with your beer can (can't remember which song tho, maybe Grey Day) - I bet nobody apart from me noticed that but I loved it :D Just thought I'd let you know that, and hope I see you come back to Ireland for a regular gig some time soon (not a festival!) Thanks for the amazing day man, it was a prvilege to be there.
Thanks for yet another amazing gig... First MADSTOCK as i'm only 18. Listened to you the day I was born apparently and loved you ever since... as will generation after generation in my family!
cheers crissy boy and the rest of the gang for a cracking day at madstock..after me and the mrs got a little lost on the underground(to many beers i think)we finaly got to the gig....back in wales now and i gotta say, there will always be a welcome in the hillside for you all in wales...again DIOCH yn FAWR(thankyou very much)..kevin..
Chrissy Boy! Madstock was amazing. Thanks to you and all the rest for a great night - a life long fan. Can you get Drip Fed Fred on to itunes? Belfast concert 7/12/07 was best birthday present ever - hope to see you back there again. John Pinkerton
Just like to say what a great day we had at Madstock - thanks! We've been celebrating hubby's big 50 (16th jUly). Saw the Dualers at Indigos on Thurs- Brilliant, Madstock on Fri - excellent and BBQ on Sat - What a way to celeb. We all loved MS and want to know have you ever thought of playing at Blackheath? Thanks again to all of you, Fran, Keith, Claire, Lee, Kevin, Pat and Paul Harris xxxxxxxxxxx
Dear Fran, Keith, Claire, Lee, Kevin, Pat and Paul Thanks for coming. CB
Hi CB I paid for a memory stick at the concert...Forgot to pick it up...How do I get it now or have I lost it.....Great night by the way...Me & my 12 year old neice had a great time...We also had our photo taken by a photographer at the front of the stage.....Where are the photo's gonna be published...Cheers 4 ur time.....spunkybadger..-X-
Dear SB You are having a laugh, right? The photos I don't know about. I'll see what I can do... CB
Dear all especialy CHAS you made my day for coming to the dublin castle making time for us berfore the concert.i will remember that kiss 4 ever and the photo will take pride of place lots of love as always di xxxxxxx
The 17th july 2009 will always hold a very special place in my heart, not least because the boys were fantastic at Victoria park, but because of the wonderful people I met in the Dublin Castle at the prearraned Madmeet. Just knowing there are people out there who are as nuts about Madness as I am almost makes me well up.In my everyday life I am always trying to big up Madness and try to convey to people how good the boys are.Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.But in the Dublin Castle before the gig itself a good time was had by all,not least because Carl was there to say hello to the fans for a while. The fantastic jukebox in the pub gives people like me the chance to get up and dance and sing along to songs like One better day and Yesterdays men, and do you know what? It wasnt just me and my twin brother Gary who got up,there were loads of fellow Maddies who let their hair down and threw away their inhibitions.I Even asked a pretty girl to dance with me while It must be love boomed out, and she said yes!I honestly believe that two people I met named Liam and Sam from Cardiff are now my friends for life.Thankyou to everyone in the Dublin Castle who made my day one of my all time favourite days. Del
Do you have a rough idea of how many were there on Friday? Would be interesting to compare to previous Finsbury gigs.
PS Why don't you just ignore gig and autograph questions rather than reply. They don't deserve a reply, you don't want to answer them and most of us don't want to read them because a quick look to the left tells us that we already know you're not playing Cameroon in June. Maybe I'm a bit less tolerant than you!
Dear Vince We sold 14518 tickets but we may have sold more on the day, I don't know. Every little question is precious. I ignore/delete all the "when are you playing ones". I'll have to change my disclaimer to include a few more things I think. CB
Hiya Chris, Just wanted to say Thank you, thank you, thank you to all of Madness for a fantastic day at Madstock.Us four nuttygirls from Corby had a ball.We stayed in London on Friday night, then went to Camden on Saturday went round the market then took your advise of having a few cheeky drinks in The Dublin Castle.Thank you again. Big kiss. Jane.x
hi chris i'm sitting watching divine madness again as i didn't get to madstock the question is how many takes did yous have to do when you were sitting on the stairs at the start of one step beyond ? it is brilliant all the best fae big john fae stonehouse
Dear Big John Not many, just a couple. I was in charge you see and film is expensive. CB
Chris Just a brief note to let you know that I had an excellent time at Madstock Friday past. I flew up from Glasgow for the day as it wasn't one to be missed. Good to see Jerry playing along and Rhoda as well. Anyway, the question bit.....did you know that myself and many others had our mobiles and wallets stolen by someone lowlife, while we were in the Golden Circle? Complete scumbags but I wasn't going to let than spoil the show Anyway, on a happy note, thanks again and I look forward to seeing you all again sometime soon....hopefully North Of The Border! Take Care D
Dear Derek I am really sorry about that. Glad you enjoyed the show, though. CB
Hi Chrissy Boy, can you help me out ? trying to play some madness tunes but am struggling to work out the chords. Its easy to get the sheet music to divine but i want, to name but a few. Primrose Hill, Sign of the times, Mrs Hutchinson. As many albums songs as poss! What you reckon ?? Cheers for your time. Nick
Dear Nick I am really hopeless at this, sorry. We did do books for those songs at the time. I just did a search, which turned up zilch. Another job for me to do at some point. CB
Dear Chris, Words can not express how happy me and my mates were attending Madstock. The whole affair with the tickets turned out right (as you kept saying ;)...), the atmosphere was great, the Blokheads were great, the Pogues were good (not a big fan) and then Madness. Superb. My mates and me went crazy. I'm not really sure how to describe it, but what used to be fond memories of the past have become great memories of the present. I am glad to say that I'm a Madness fan (since the beginning) and that I have already seen'm twice this year and not years ago. Highlight of Madstock...bumped into Lee and got my picture taken with him. Biggest highlight of the evening, singing along with every song you played.
Saw the Cambden Cowboys at Butlins last year and forgot that time moves on, Lee has got quite large!! Anyway it was 80,s madness weekend and I was wearing a lace madonna glove, Lee wore my glove to play one step beyond and I sang the intro cos he passed me the mike. Just wanted to share that with you cos my husband went to Broadlands last nite and I am gutted cos I am at home with the swine flu, and it is a swine cos it meant that i missed out!! Boo!! Thanks for listening and stuff. XX Netty
Dear Netty Have you come out in rashers? Get well soon. CB
Hello Chris, Don't want to keep you from all the great work. I just want to say that the new album is a masterpiece, the pinnacle of 30 years of outstanding music. Congrats to you all, see you soon here in dear old Ireland, Barry Murphy
OH MY GOD!!!! I have been to a lot of gigs in my time to see lots of bands... (Madness 6 or 7 times as you guys are my favourite and have been for many many years now) but i have to say that Madstock last night was the best gig i have ever been to... I had the best time ever... I was right at the front on the barrier and now my ribs are sooooooooooo sore, but sod it, it was worth it! You guys are awesome. I stayed at stage 1 all day because I had prime position on the barrier so missed Hayseed Dixie, where they any good? I have to say the the Pogues were the worst band of the day for me (I don't mean to offend, but i have never been a fan really), but Shane was comedy value and kept us laughing throughout the set... he was so drunk. :o) Haha! I was surprised he could even walk on to the stage. :o) I hope the gig was as good for you guys as it was for everyone down in the field. :o) I really hope it gets release on DVD. Any chance of that? :o) I was a bit worried to see so many little kids in the golden circle though... i'm pretty sure they must have got hurt. Did you hear of any injuries?
Thanks again for helping with the tickets Chrissy Boy. :o)
Anywho... keep up the good work and I hope to see you again soon.
Rich.
Thank Rich As far as I know there were no serious injuries. all the best CB
Hiya Chris.....Bit Of A Weird subject this Time But In a Few Years Me And A Very Close Friend Of Mine...Leah Rix (Yes eah Rix Whos Birthday You Made Amazing At Gatcombe Park That Commnted You To tell You) Well We Are Starting A Madness cover Band Called "Mad Times" But Don't Worry We Are Going To Write some Of Our Own also ......But I was Wondering If You& The Rest Of The Band...Especialy Chas (Since he drew It ..I Think) Woud Give us Permission To Use The Madness M Thanks for Reading This CB Shannan Xxxxxxx
Hi Chris, thanks for a great Madstock! Me and the wife Jackie had a great time. We called in the Hope and Anchor and The Dublin Castle for a few beers before we made our way to Victoria Park. Inspired use of a Corona bottle by the way. SteveR
got my memory stick with the recordings of the madstock gig last night and i\'ve also downloaded the encores i am missing 6 songs between liberty of norton folgate and on the town i was wondering if you knew how i could get this sorted out so i can get the missing tracks such as our house and baggy trousers?
as a fan of madness from the very early days,i was wondering if any members of the band ever thought that you'd still be going strong after 30 yrs?..especially after mike departed in the 80's (was it after "yesterdays men").would like to say thanks guys for all the great music down the years, its been a pleasure being a nutty boy!.cheers matt.
Hi Chris, unfortunately I did not manage to see the whole of Madstock due to some T*%t nicking my wallet and hundreds of others by the sound of it, luckily I caught him and had a bit of a scuffle with him which resulted in one of his gang punching me in the face. I managed to get the security who were useless to finally get him and he was arrested so I spent the rest of the night in the police station doing a statement. Unfortunately due to the time it took for the security to get their fingers out he had either passed my wallet onto his mates or dumped it and my £250 was no longer to be seen and I missed out on all the class merchandise. The police say he had previous for theft so hopefully I saved a few people from getting their wallets nicked.
Anyway thats my rant over and for the majority of people it was a class gig, I hear Roda Deker and Jerry Dammers joined you on stage, would have loved to have seen you perform On The Town and The Liberty Of Norton Folgate, hopefully you will be in Newcastle soon and I can make up for missing them there.
Dicka
P.S. if you are one of the people who was doing the thieving please keep away from this site because you are definately not welcome and are no fan of Madness.
Dear Dicka Really, really, sorry mate. I will get our team to send you something. CB
hi chris just to say i went victoria park last nite (17th july) was fantastic u guys was great i will go next year if ya there. but i was not impressed wiv the golden circle it was to crowded im 5ft2 and wen u guys came on the crowd went mad n i was gettin pushed n shoved left rite n centre. dont get me wrong u learn from your mistakes that we left the golden circle area 5mins after u came on. hope to see u again soon. lisa x x x
Dear Lisa I'm sorry to hear that. There have been a lot of complaints about the wonderful Golden Circle. Next time we'll put it in another field. In another town. CB
Hey crissy boy!! madstock was brill! the blockheads were very good and i got crushed during the pogues ( Shane wasn t in the best condition)i was right at the front, im only 13!! ouch. when you guys came on, and chas started shouting the one step beyond bit, i nearly died, i was trying to film, sing and fight of big drunk men at the same time! but then the funny bit happened. my mum hit a bloke in the eye because he was a d*ck head and hit her. she said it was too much and left ( she was just behind me) my dad told me that we had to get out the front bit too, it was going CRAZY!! so i said to the security to get me out, he lifted me out and I put my thumbs up at you, but you didnt see :( and ran after my mum. we went back into the gold circle, but about half way which wasnt so manic, but a gr8 view and gig. much to my suprise, however, a woman came up to me and said "are you they boy who was carried over the fence, you were on the big screens, and it looked like y ou had had a storke" oh i did laugh.so we enjoyed the concert, dancing and singing, I went on my dad's shoulders. Im not little though, I am 5ft 11inch and look older than 13. also at about 3ish i saw suggs walking around and shook hands with him, that made me happy. i dunno if u saw me at all? i was wearing a trilby, madness shirt,long-ish blonde hair. reading that it seems like a no, lol. anyway, all in all i had the best day of my life. will there be a madstock next year? thanks top the whole band and the organisers for the best day ever. jack
Dear Jack Thanks for coming. Sorry to hear about some of your experiences though. CB
Great gig got soaked mate but whats a bit of rain we are british after all. But when it did stop raining we were then getting soaked by the beer that was been thrown at those prices i wouldn't have wasted a drop. Obviously more money than sense or maybe not man enough to actually drink it. We saw the end of blockheads and Pogues wre great[shane god bless him, he's a walking miracle]. Great gig loved Suggsies sparkly suit where was yours? Any idea if your going to do your xmas gigs this year, or even just O2? Well done again great family day out met a lot of genuine fans and its just good to see loads of people smiling and having a laugh. Anita
Dear Anita Thanks. Yes, they have money to throw around don't they? CB

And where can i get the Sugar and Spice single from? I want to here Barzo singing :D. And 1 last thing, on iTunes it says on TLONF CD has interviews and things...Where?! I have the CD and the box set and neetha have them, :-(. Amyway hope you had an amazing time at Madstock. (: Leah X
Dear Leah It was an experience. Education is important though. The interviews are on iTunes. CB
hi chris , i went to the concert on friday at victoria park , and brought a usb stick after the gig ,i went to use the code , but it does not work and comes up with german writing , could u pls help me , what should i do , GREAT GIG CHRIS , PLS BRING ANOTHER MADSTOCK BACK TO FINSBURY PARK ..
Hi I had my photo taken at Madstock with Suggs just before the Blockheads came on by the nearest bear tent / loos. He had a really nice suit on and sunglasses, my mates say it wasn't him?? Was it? xx Jennie
Dear Jennie No - it was his stand in. How the ££$£@ should I know! send me the picture! CB
Although i had tickets for victoria park already through one of those rare but fortunate series of events i found myself booked to dj inbetween some of the bands on the second and third stage - the higlight being playing pigbag to a full tent (i have to confess to praying for a little rain at this point) before youngsta. i guess this isn't really a question is it but just wanted to say what a fantastic day i had made even better by that last minute booking. Met loads of great people as well - aren't madness fans the best? (there's the question!) DP
hi i`m trying to find out the difference of the standard tickets and vip what do you get for vip ? tried to find out with the ticket companys but they dont know kind regards nick smith
Dear Nick I don't know either. What's the price differance? CB
Hello Chris, I was at Madstock yesterday and it was my first and I must say that I think it was the best line up of bands I have ever seen. Man Like Me have to be one of the best up and coming bands in the U.K. Is there any chance that the concert will be coming out on DVD and on C.D. like the first Madstock. Are you going to be playing at the 02 Arena in December by any chance at all? BLucky Callum Wylde
Dear Callum I'm glad you enjoyed it. There should be a DVD out some time. CB
Hi Chrissy boy,Great gig Friday at VP . My question is why are all the so called fan's in the golden circle bit such tosser's.I've been following MADNESS since I was 15 now 43 from the first TOTP creation to now and just think they should have more respect tis' all!Having the privilage of being so close to the GODS you are HA! HA! God Bless Ya MADNESS Oi Oi mike and shaz
Dear Mike and Shaz Thanks for all the support the last 30 years. Yes - £45 to go through all that? Time for a re think. CB
Hey Chris, first of all just to say I had a brilliant time last night at Madstock despite the rain! It was the first gig for my friend and he also loved it and wants to see you guys again, which didn't surprise me.
Secondly, there is a picture of a f*ck art lets dance bag on the mad shop bit where it says new accessories but the bag is not actually up for sale. Is this because it has sold out and if so are there gonna be any more coming in? Thanks! Holly
Dear Holly Thanks. The bag I don't really know about, try to contact the merch company. CB
Dear young Chris Sorry this isn't about the good ship Madness ,but the few who let the side down . Anita,my lovely wife and myself just had normal tickets and we were happy with that . I entered the on screen competition to win a pair of GOLDEN CIRCLE and bloody hell we WON a pair ! We were so pleased a ran from mainstage to collect them ! We were so pleased ! But when your goodselves came on stage things went wild . Please let me say that i have been to many Madstocks in the past and none of them where like this one . the pushing and twats just throwing themself's onto everyone else was to much to take and there was even blokes taking a piss where they stod !Anita was pushed so hard she hit the floor and that was that. We had to leave the circle for the safety of my wife, my friend Louise was removed by security and dumped out of the circle. She tried to get back in and was told to F off and got a punch in the face by a fan ? I felt so bad that i wanted to leave and probably would have done if I hadn't paid 20 for the memory stick thing ! I'm sorry to go on but I was so looking forward to having a good day and well you know the rest . Really enjoyed the music shame about the few ! Cheers Barry
Dear Barry Really, really, sorry to hear all this. I don't know what to say. Saddoes who can't hole their beer really. CB
Oh my god i cant believe im actualy messaging the nutty boys! Love you all loads. Saw you at victoria park and many times before that too. Made the mistake this time of going to the front and nearly got crushed to death it was really scary but you were all amazing as ever. Saw the Dualers the night before at O2 so our legs are suffering today as we didn't stop dancing for 2 days. Was lucky enough to have a pic done with Mike Barson before the show. Still Buzzin now. Keep on doing what you all do soooo well xx Lisa Ellis
Hi, Chrissy Boy,just want to say thanks to you and the boy's for an outstanding gig, first time for me the wife and kids, we all enjoyed it and would love to relive it al over again. Will there be a DVD of the performance available. Thanks, Dave Wilkinson
Dear Dave Thanks. Yes I hope a DVD will be out some time. CB
CB, Thank you guys so much for a brilliant day yesterday! The hole day was just filled with passion for u and it was amazin, we had people stoppin us in the streets to say have a good time as they werent fortunite to make it! As for the Goldern Circle my feelin is it needed to be smaller!I new wot I was lettin myself in for last night but didnt no just how painfull it was actually goin 2 b lol, but kept smilin and still am!!As for the pick pocketers..... well wot can I say, complete disgrace! I am so angry that people feel they have to go and cause agrow for people goin purely to have a good time! So CB Wens then next Madstock? lol. xxxx
hi chris, just a big thanks for the cracking day we had at madstock victoria park, been a fan for many years, this was my first time to see the nutty boys, what a day,
Dear Commander Thanks for a great gig last night. You looked as if you really enjoyed, and it was nice to see Jerry join you as well. Gotta ask, when you dedicated Forever Young to "Owen", was that me or Owen from your stage crew? I was getting all egotistical for a minute. Please also pass on my thanks to Bedders and Lee for speaking to me and Gav when we met them backstage last night. No, I don't know how we got backstage either, but it was very nice back there. We should sneak in more often. All the best Owen The Nutter (flat cap, inflatable sax, crushed expression)
Oh you are a scream. Yes the dedication was for you dear boy. CB
I am 16 and went to Madstock last night (first proper gig) and personally think that you guys are the best thing since sliced bread. Thats it really no questions just gratitude. Thanks for making my first gig such a great one! Jess
hi chris. just wanted to say i had a realy good time at victora park on friday.mate you and the boys still kick arse.you sounded perfect well done.keep the good work up and all the best to you all. a happy fan. andy
I have to say I was so upset at that event. There were small kids in that gold circle and they were stomped on by grown men (thugz). It was my cousins birthday and I bought tickets as I had been a madness fan since 79. Before you were onstage people had their belongings stolen. The crowd was throwing a ladies handbag around. Fights started amongst grown men. When the music started it got worse. There were small kids being crushed and they were crying. Alot of people were complaining to the APS security. Their response was we havn't got enough staff. People were bunking into the gold circle who didn't have tickets. People were really upset and angry.........I wish I had just gone upto a big issue seller and give them the 50 i paid for my ticket, and just sat at home and listened to your discs. Well just getting on to ticket master amonst others to give them some verbal. Leona Rogers
Dear Leona I am very sorry to hear this. You are not the only one. However, Ticketmaster have absolutely nothing to do with it. CB
Not a question really, but to say what a blinding set last night, and once again thanks for your help over the tickets, well worth the worry. Tim Higgs
Hi Chrissy Boy, i was at madstock in Victoria Park yesterday which was brilliant, I just wanted to say thank you for a great night and all of you were looking really good, especially you x christine
Hi guys, me and lots of my mates came to the gig at viccy park yesterday. It was f###ing excellent. First time I've ever been to one of your gigs. I really really enjoyed myself, I was so excited before the gig that I was actually going to see you guys live. It was brilliant all day/night yesterday. My mates have been to quite a few of your gigs but like I said I've never been before but extremely glad I went to this one!! I know this is a really silly question but I don't suppose you do personal gigs (for mates, ha ha)? Or maybe turn up at a party being held on 1st August over clapton, e5 area. No need to play a gig or anything but I'm sure everyone there would keep you all watered and fed all night. I know you'll probably say no as you're like film stars in my eyes and as just as busy as them if not busier and defo better (brilliant), BUT WORTH CONSIDERATION ATLEAST SURELY. Thank you again for last night it was really f###ing fantastic, thank you all of you guys for making my night!!! Anyway like I said if you not busy on the 1st august 2009 then drop by we'll keep you fed and watered (alcohol-yes) all night for free, and you wont even need to sing just turn up and be your selves. Thank you for maybe considering it. Please. Miss J, closet madness fan x x x x
Dear Miss J How kind but I hardly know you. CB
p.s. I really love you guys, oh and there\'ll be lots of pretty girls there too just incase you want any eye candy to look at, he he x x

Hi Chris,I will be seeing you at the Romsey gig tonight. Dont manage to get to many gigs but i would like to go to another but would the all singing all dancing ticket which allows me to meet the band etc. Do you get this with the VIP tickets? May see you again in August on the Isle of Wight mate.
Good luck at Romsey
Andy
Dear Andy I only just got this, but you wouldn't have got one anyway. CB

Dear Paul First the G Circle - now this. I have passed it on. CB
I attended last nights gig at Victoria Park. You did'nt have any lime in your Corona. Why not?? Cheers John W Pepper
Dear John W Because I don't like it and I can't play the guitar with a lime filled bottle either. Are you related to Dennis? Another great name there. CB
I saw you in San Diego, California in the 80's----great show!! Always loved you all and am glad to know that you are still around! Cheers! Leslie Herbert
Dear Leslie Thanks - and the feeling is mutual. You've got a great name. CB
oh it was nearly like old times being right at the front, just to say it was brill and now you wont have so many replies to write now the golden circle is no more you can get out of the cupboard and have a cup of tea. x lynn
Dear Lynn Oh no, that crappy subject is still on the agenda... CB
GET BACK TO FINSBURY PARK! Whoever was in charge of the sound tonight needs a good kicking, it was terrible. Of what we could hear it was great, great to see you all back in action and it looked like you were enjoying it again. Keep it up lads and thanks. (not for the sound man though) steve
Dear Steve You seem to be the only one complaining - so far. Anyone else? CB
Just got back. One word - WOW! Many many thanks for a great night and wonderful to see Mr Dammers receiving the adulation he desrved. Question: Did the fella get his wallet back?? PB
Dear PB The owner was apparently Prince Busters grandson.I hope he did. CB
Dear CB, thanks for answering. My wishes goes to the band. i know, that you don't was there 2006. Suggs said it at the beginning .-) I bought the sticks, thanks! But I saw @ you tube that close from Berlin. You make a DVD ? Congrets for 30 years great ska!!!!!! When Do you play Berlin again? Best wishes Thomas
No questions ..just a huge welcome to Romsey for tomorrow!! Cant wait ..am bringing my kids to show them what I grew up with..my youngest Erin is 10 this weekend and this is part of her birthday treat ...she's been learning all your words... see you there ..have fun x x x ps...Erin says hi to Suggs
Hi Chris Just have to first say, how much Madness have meant to me, i'm 32, was pretty young first time around, but i knew those early hits when i was in the playground, and i think it means so much that you are all playing now! I saw you at Guilfest, easily one of the best gigs i've been too, better than bowie, macca etc..! Norton Folgate is brilliant! You all look like you get along, really well, and have a genuine bond and rapor onstage! Question is, was it like that in the early days? and is it like that off stage? Thanks Ben
Dear Ben Thanks.I left the band a while ago, for health reasons. I was sick of them! We argue but mostly get along these days.
I want to record the poems by the Basildon Blogger for BBC Radio 4 and a CD. I know that you Suggs would do it brilliantly. Please read the website Suggs. I know that if you consider doing it you would want a complete script and agents and the BBC would have to be involved but I just need to know that you would be interested. Thanks Jack.

Essex rolls on under the night
London Fenchurch Street station to Pitsea Snaking out past the Gherkin and Dome Upminster the last of the central line And not long ’til we’re thundering home
Across the wide flat fields of Essex Occasionally glimpsing the Thames Flashing beyond the refinery smoke A scattered handful of sparkling gems
The sight of those track side places Where a body would never be found The endless deserted wetlands You can only be Basildon bound
The smiles of the girls on the stations Makes you glad that you are alive The fortunate few, the Essex crew As we gather speed and slice clean through the M25
Dear Jack I like it. I have sent it to Suggs but it may take some time to get a reply. CB
Dear CB, Hope all is well. @ Int. Cafe waiting for my connecting flight. Will be @ Broadlands t'morrow, will be there early so h'fully can try to say Hi. More performances in the pipeline under You Tube Madness Rags, may be able to do a demo t'morrow. Like the new t-shirts added.
Hi there Chris, way back in 1981 I was a student earning extra cash as a film extra, and had the bestist of luck to work on your film. Where's the best place to buy a copy please? Cheers, Tess x
Dear Tess It's currently deleted, so you would have to get one on e bay or something, not advisable. It will get re released soon. CB
We just finished writing a song: http://www.lhearts.com/ourmusic/HOLENEW.mp3
Feel free to cover it if you like it. It's about a man who falls down a hole. It's very madnessish...Chris WWW.LHEARTS.COM
Dear Chris I went to your site, I liked your artwork. I found a song called falling down which is not what you meant, but I thought it was really good. Honest. Are you ever playing Brighton? HA! I asked someone else a GIGS question! CB
Hi, my name is Danuta and I'm a big fun of Madness. To confirm this I will say that my biggest musical dream was to see the Madness on stage in Poland. This dream has been fulfilled during the Opener festival, where I jumped with other fans in the crowd for 90 min in a rain. I regret only that you did not play on main stage due to delay. On my 40 birthday present my husband took me to Belfast (Dec 07) for the Madness concert and I will not forget it to the end of my life. I want to see Lee flying under the stage. Do you ever come to Poland for only Madness concert?
Dear Danuta Thanks for coming and getting so wet. Maybe one day we will come back - it was very good. CB
just a quick one to say im taking my kids to vicky park to further there education re music and my own history so often sung about in your songs thanks for all the music over the years from a nw1 boy grt idea with the under 12s going free keep well joe squires

Unfortunately, i can't be one of the happy few tonite...
Maybe the earthquake will tremble our lovely city of Le Havre ;-) it's not so far, after all ! Hope all of you are in a strong health, and see you in paris next month. Fred
Just came back from my sons school leaving assembly. Where i also work but wangled the day off to see you guys. Where my son and his mate were dancing around in DRESSES to dancing queen really mucking about with sad dancing so if you want to go back to your old style videos i've got a couple of extras for you. But i am a bit upset my baby boy is moving on so really need to cheer up. So as usual lads have a good one can't wait to see hope you enjoy it too.Not quite the weather we had for the original Madstock. Anita
Dear Anita I didn't get wet-did you? Next time, get the school to do a production of "Our House". There are some girl parts in it for your son. CB
Just got the Album for my Birthday... absolutely stunning. I was a bit reluctant to listen to the updated Madness after naming 'Night Boat To Ciaro' the greatest song ever. Steve Phelps
Thanks Steve glad it was worth it. We did some other really good albums too you know, since 1979. CB
Driving miles to see the gig on Saturday, and need to skive off work early-what time are you boys going on stage. ps-if any of my bosses read this....i'm not missing the gig so SACK ME!
I won't put you name on, Phil oops! We will wait for you. CB
Just got the new cd; me so happy! Fell in love with Madness in '85 thanks to a girl. :-) 24 years later, who's still in my life? MADNESS!!!!!! (ah ha ha... yea) James
Dear James Well, you made the right choice then? But you owe her something. CB
Hi CB....we will have some children with us at the gig (7 to 13 yrs old)..if you are able, and if remember, it would be great to hear you say hi to "Isadora" from the stage (she is a 13 yr old with learning difficulties) and would make her evening...although it will be amazing for her and her younger brothers anyway. No worries if it's all too much, or just not what the nutty boys do!...have fun...looking forward...and the sun will be shining too....Thanks, AC
Dear Adam Look I'll try, but I forget in all the excitement.Don't let them get squashed will you? CB
mr foreman, i know that woody and suggs follow chelsea, bedders and lee the arsenal, but what about the rest of you fine fellows? it's a question that has dogged me for years, please help. pat.

Dear Andy hav you come out in rashhhers? Sorry bad joke. The single will be out on the 3rd of August. B-sides will be a Barso demo with him singing [I think] pretty good, well worth it I must say. CB

Dear Sion Sorry, only just got this I am running late. We did have a great time though thanks and I wore a Homburg hat.No you can't have it. CB
Hi Chris, Where can I get to learn those dance moves you guys put up on the screens at your gigs? My mate has hired "Complete Madness" for his wedding and we want to have the most mental first dance for him and his new wife!!!
Not sure if you showed it for Swan lake at Bham NEC last Christmas? I think you did!
Please help.
Loving you guys since 1980!! Quality then...mint now!!!
Hi Chris, if you spot me in the crowd at Madstock tomorrow could give me a wave? I'll be the one in the trilby and Madness T-shirt you woun't be able to miss me. Cheers. Have a great day. P.S. I'm glad you rejoined the boys. SteveR
Dear Steve Yeah you and 500 other tastefully dressed people. Thanks for having me back. CB
advert Question: Hi Chris Has the advert been shown yet? Or have I missed it, when racing through the ads with me sky plus button. Although even at top speed you can still work out whats on your tv screen.
John
Dear John Yes, it's always on channel er 997 or something, whenever we can get cheap ad space. CB
Hello mate, i am trying to organise transport back from london and just wondered what time the madstock event will finish roughly so i can book coaches etc. Billy
Dear Billy You can find that very information on the intro page of this very site. CB
all the very best to you and the lads, Im sure you will have a great day as well as the crowds including me (although the weatherman, said its not going to be a good day for sausage dogs!)but when are they ever right? although I can think of one number from the catalog which would raise the spirits, which I am sure will be running high anyway,
Q: will you be nipping over to the second stage to perform one Abba number with Bjorn Again.
and finally but not least, I will call and see your freind Henry in Camdon as suggested, can we catch the tube accross to Victoria from there? (how far is it?) Cheers Chris MadSuggsy
Dear MadSuggsy
No ABBA songs, sorry. You are probably on your way, but it's not that far from Victoria to Camden change at Euston about 15mins. CB
Moved to clean green NZ 18yrs ago & feel like I'm missing out on all the fun!....the Specials are coming to Auckland...why don't you hitch a ride with them & come too!!? :-P
Hello Mr CB!! Will the M Section be full of madstock related stuff..?? For us abroad and happy owners of the boxset would be great!! (by the way I've pre-ordered the USB Madstock 2009) All the best from Argentina, Mr Paul B An earthquake is erupting!
Dear Paul Do you have a boxset? If so, you should be able to access the M section from anywhere in the world, with your special code, on the special card. CB
Dont want to be anal and I am sure others may be about this, but I really dont like the change of lyric on the 2nd line of S and S. It sounds like Suggs is rushing it/stumbling over it - a bit off putting at start of a song.
Please - dont turn S and S into a polished t*rd..it is a good single that doesn't need to be polished via the back passage (hence all the good reviews)...ooooooo carry on up the charts
This is twice someone has said this. Does anyone know what that polishing a t*rd expression actually means? It means trying to put a shine on something that is rubbish or crap. I don't think it is myself, I think it's a really good song. Mike wrote the song and he wanted to change the lyrics. End of subject. CB
Would you nice Madness gents please tour in the States of United? It's cruel to read of your playing in the UK and Europe generally but not so much as a by your leave for us Madness-deprived Yanks. JD Henry
Greetings , Ive seen you boys live dozens and dozens of times since you reformed in 1992. Never seen you play "uncle sam" or "Ghost train" . Two of my fave tunes. Just wondered why that might be.
Also, A question about Crunch! Will you ever get back together ? I spotted some members of crunch at the Camden crawl and they said "Ask them" (meaning you & Lee). Cheers Mountain boy
Dear MB Sorry we won't be doing those songs they just got dropped in favour of more popular songs. I am far too busy with Madness but if the right offer comes along, we would do some Crunch! gigs. CB
I hope that you are well. Just feeling sorry for myself now as I will not be attending Madstock this time as I am best man at a wedding back in Cork.
I asked the selfish bastards to change the date but they wouldnt budge...something about wedding invites/church/hotel etc. after being booked.... some folk have zero consideration.
Indeed this is the first madstock I shall miss. The first one i was only 16 and ran away from home to see it....those were the days.
As you lash into Clerkenwell or Shut up or something, I shall be on the dance floor giving it loads with the bridesmaids to the fucking birdie song. You win.
Anways enjoy the show (its showtime and all) and pass on my regards to Chas.
I guess it must be love that makes us marry/ or miss madstock.
All the best
Vince Foley
Dear Vince They should get their priorities right! CB
