Thommo's Treehouse: Japanese scarf

Name: Lesley
Subject: Japanese scarf
Question: Hi Lee,
Have a great time in Auld Reekie tonight. I remember the first time I saw you guys was Edinburgh. I had to get a paper round to get money to buy the tickets but it was so worth it. I have loved Madness ever since first seeing you on TOTP playing The Prince and it was fantastic to meet you all in Edinburgh in 83 when I sneaked in with my sister. Wish you all the best for 2010 and may the good ship Madness sail on and on. Happy New Year. p.s I have uploaded a clip of you and Chrissy playing Tarzans nuts on youtube at the O2. You will also see picture of the Japanese scarf.

Who came up with the idea for the iconic Rising Sun pose for the '7' album sleeve? It had me wondering as it's almost as classic as the One Step pic.

It was an idea that mutated fully when in Japan filming the Honda,Honda,Honda add,it was supposed to represent their flag when at War,we used it in the Shut up video.
To be honest Im not too sure which came about first,Honda or the video,it was so long ago & I don't keep a diary, again it's a Bill Wyman Q&A

Subject: Newcastle Gig
Question: Hi Thommo, just want to say the Newcastle gig was fantastic. Its great to see young followers looking up to great music. For me it just took me back to my teenage years remembering all the Madness memrobilia on vinal and really looking forward to the CD versions and the DVD of Take it or Leave it (Brilliant film by the way and what a great star).Being cheeky now but can you tell me how i can get the autographs of the band for my step daughter who is 16 and was a the concert. I will be happy to by another album if you can let me know how i get it signed or some other memrobeila, t-shirt etc. She is a real fan and i love every minute of it. Its great when all she wants to listen to is Madness, i just love it.

Thanks Thommo and thank you for 30 years of pure entertainment. You guys are simply heros and i love the Dublin Castle pub when i visit London

Cheers Thommo and have a great new year in Edinburgh

Former (assistant) mechandise seller to the 'trainspotters' here. Sorry I had to politely decline your request to 'ave me Nutty Boys t-shirt at the Manchester gig (it's a treasured posession, it still fits - HA! and it would have been a very cold journey home!!)
My question is: what tipple was glowing in your glass during the show? Quite partial to an Australian red me-self.

Seasons Greetings, thanks for the last 30 years, and see you in 2010.

Without doubt you are doing a full-on 'Lee'll Fix It' for me here mate, because meeting you guys is a lifelong dream, and having the honour of giving you all Club Certificates / stickers etc, will be the proudest moment in my life!

I've left you the Club's email address and my telephone number (07515968549), if you could find the time either way to let me know what i should do on the day of the concert, where to go and appropriate times etc, i'd be eternally grateful.

My dad recently put me onto your music which blew me away and now I can't stop listening to One Step Beyond. I would love to learn how to play One Step Beyond and show everyone how great your music is but I don't know where to find the music. Could you please help me?

No,is the answer to that one.
I used to play along to various american R&B saxophonists on my gramaphone.
Check out 'Rocking Goose' by Jhonny & The Hurricanse. The Quack,Quacking sound in that inspired me to make that racket on 'OSB'
Put it in your mouth & blow is my only advise.

Its a toss up between Leeds & Madchester.
Newcastle comes neck & neck with Southend 2nd show & its a photo finish for the surprisingly mellow Glaswegian crowd with Birmingham.I shall gather more evidence & repot back on who 'Pack Of The Match'are going to be this year in UK.

Subject: leeds 9th dec (kids with sax's,front row)
Question: hi lee! not really a question, but a massive thank you.gig was top banana! yourself, chas and suggs made my boy Harry, and his friend Dyllan, feel fantastic. to engage 2 10 year olds with a nod, wink or a smile through out a gig full mainly of over weight skinheads pissed on crap lager and fond memories of being young again was thoughtful and caring. I've been a fan from the age of 8 (1980). young harry discovered last year my viynl collection.he became hooked with you and the boys instantly.it's a good feeling that you now have family and understand that most of your first wave of fans will have too. thanks again. p.s. the signed shirts will not go ebay or the washing machine!

Thommo's Treehouse: Manchester

Name: Claire

Subject: Manchester
Question: Hi Lee,how are you? My friend Lisa and I used to know you quite well in the \'80s,we used to travel down from Scotland aged about 16 and hang around at your rehearsal studios in Market St and Islington (near Upper St I think) and also sometimes at the recording studio under/near the Westway. We even went down to Glastonbury with you which was 85 or 86. I have got some photos of you from those days and would love to email them to you. I will send them to info@madness.co.uk with a message for them to be forwarded to you. The last time I saw you was at a Nutty Boys gig in central London in about 92-you staged dived but the audience didn\'t catch you and you then ran up some stairs to say hello and then went back on stage!
I also remember hanging out at your hotel in Glasgow when you were touring in about 85 with the two Jimmy\'s on backing vocals if I remember correctly. I think we tried to sleep on your floor after running around the corridors waking people up! At the Edinburgh Playhouse me and Lisa managed to blag our way into a box! Anyway we saw you last year in Manc and are coming to see you on the 15th and would love to say hello, get in touch if you get this and will email you the photos to jog your memory. Lots of love from Claire xxx
--
Yes, I remember this but not the venue.

Thommo's Treehouse: December in Belfast

Name: Colin (aka Nutty-Skins)
Subject: December in Belfast
Question: (please don\'t include for public viewing Lee).
Hi Kix, Can you help? I\'ll tell you what it is mate, i am founder of One Step Beyond scooter club in Belfast, (formed Oct 09).
I asked Chris to put the proposal of forming the club to the band for approval as i didnt want to infringe any copyrights, and to extend honourary membership to you all. Happily, all was cleared for me to proceed and since then, the club has stedily grown and been involved in various charity work, including \'Help For Heroes\' and \'Childrens Hospitals\' etc.
I asked if it would be possible to perhaps meet you lot after the Belfast show, in order to give you club certificates / stickers etc, Chris said \'come along with the club on the night and who knows\'...
To be honest, since that i\'ve tried contacting Chris by email on several occasions to verify this arrangement, but my emails mustn\'t be reaching him.
Basically i need to find out what i do or who i ask for, following the concert in Belfast, because i\'m quite sure me saying to security, \'I\'ve gifts for the lads, we\'re the official scooter club, they\'re expecting me\', isn\'t going to get me very far.
If you could chase it up for me mate it would be sincerely appreciated.
I hate hassling you all, especially on the first day of the tour, but this means an awful lot to me and as a dedicated fan since \'79, (as are my kids and grand-kids), i wouldn\'t want to miss a lifetime opportunity to finally meet you all.
Any help you can kindly offer will be totally appreciated, please feel free to use the Club email address should you wish.
Merry Christmas and good health to you and yours Lee,
Colin (Belfast).
No Hassel geez,
Chasing is my middle name, all you have to do is get in touch with the hotel im in & I will sort the rest,,,,,,deal?
