Dear CB
Quite a few people in this special cupboard have shared their stories of how they got into Madness and I’ve found them quite interesting so I thought I’d share my experience if I may as I’d fancy its slightly different from most others. Back in 1986 I was 12 years old and into Tears for Fears, Depeche Mode and the like. I had gone down with the dreaded measles which meant a couple of weeks at home but lots of boredom. We’d recently got a new betamax (!) video (wow) and around this time there was a one off very, very late night TV programme presented by John Peel and John Walters about music videos. Remember, at this time telly still ended at about midnight so this was a real event. As a treat my dad recorded this for me to watch the following day & on this programme was an interview with Madness talking about your experience of making videos, what your favourite videos were & showed some of your videos in between. It was great and I was hooked! Typically my timing wa! s terrible and you split up soon after but when I was back on my feet and back doing the old paper round I spent my first lot of wages on Utter Madness & have been dancing along ever since!
Sorry for the length of this message!
Cheers
Herbert
Dear Herbert
don;t worry abou the length, I love this sort of thing. Very interesting. If not for the measles and late night telly you would still be a Depeche fan. Maybe you still are, I quite like them myself. Paper rounds, ah they were the days. Is that still allowed? Child labour terrible..
