hi chris i know im a long time away with this but if/when you come back to glasgow is there anychance you would go back to the secc as it is a far better venue if you want to stick to smaller venues then hall 3 in the secc is smaller than the hall 4 that you usually play when you play there ( it holds 3000 , the o2 holds 2500 ) and the bonus is it is all standing which leads to a better atmosphere and room to dance i saw the sex pistols there in 2007 and in my opinion is far better than the o2 .
cheers gary
ps this is only a suggestion i will be there wherever you play .
Dear Gary
I didn’t want to do the smaller ones but I love ’em. Much better atmosphere than arenas. Our managers want to do arenas again so who knows?
CB
Got to agree that a bigger venue is needed whereever it might be.Didn’t get to the last gig cause it was sold out so quick.(The first one in years)Probably a reaction to T In the park which i did get to and you’s definately rocked.
Anywhere you go i will surely follow!!
Tino.
Fair do’s, can’t disagree really, but still would love to see Madness play the Barras….
tbh…I would probably only go the one night, but that’s down to expendable income …… (part of the reason I avoid the Academy)…I work hard and try and get as big a bang for my hard earned as I can….Madness deliver that….but the Academy doesn’t for me…..arenas also often have higher ticket prices…..
the best Specials gig I seen when the band played in 2009 was at the Edinburgh Corn Exchange….which didn’t sell out right away…again I would prefer the Specials at the Barras rather than the SECC….but got a ticket for my Christmas (in fact all the Specials tickets I got were gifts…except T in the Park…where I was working as a Volunteer)….also got to see Madness at the SECC in 2006 through a friend getting me in….
Peace be with you brother Graham. Peace be with you…

All hail the word of The Dug….The Dug is the word….amen!! 🙂
i agree with the dug i would go no matter where the band play i can honestly say ive never been to a bad madness gig and ive been to loads since my first way back in 1982 in the glasgow apollo (now that was a great venue).

I don’t think there is anyone who has been to the Barras for a gig that would doubt it’s excellence for live bands, but Gary echoes exactly what i think. It would be the same crowd that would support the band if they ever did two nights.
I don’t think that will happen as Madness have been playing very regular the last few years and their end of year tours do cover quite a lot of cities/dates, so to do two nights in one city would be heavy going.
At the end of the day, I (like probably most fans) would support the boys whether they played a bus shelter or an arena!

The Dug
if madness played a couple of nights at the barras how many would you go to tam ? i bet it would be both (not a dig as i would be the same)which is what i mean by the venue being to small as it would be mostly the same crowd both nights which would leave many people not getting to see the band so thats why i would rather one night in a larger venue then everyone who wants to go can go .
gary
The capacity is 1900, I think Madness could fill it a few times over. Nothing wrong with doing a two or three gigs in the same city over a couple of nights….I think it would be worth it and would once again give Madness and the fans a legendary night in Glasgow……
It’s not only the fans that feel that the Barras is the best venue, but the bands also agree….
Have Madness ever played the Barras?

The Glasgow Academy isn’t a bad venue at all. I would say the 2009 Madness gig there was probably the second best I’ve seen the band in the 20 odd Madness gigs I’ve been at.
The Barras would be terrific, but it is a wee bit wee for such a popular band…mind you, Bobby Dylan played it a couple of years ago and he’s even bigger than Madness!!!
As for the A.B.C. It has a better local chippy than either of the other venues, but it’s too wide and shallow in my opinion to be up against the greats.

The Dug
the barras is a good venue but far to small for a madness gig so would be good but only if you got a ticket as i think it only holds about 1500 if your lucky
I didn’t go to the Academy gig on this tour or the previous one as it is a rubbish venue……not matter how good the band, the venue detracts….
Glasgow has similar sized venues that are excellent – The Barrowlands being the most obvious (and imho the best venue in all of the world, without exception). The other great venue in Glasgow with a similar capacity is the ABC…..the best venues have disco-balls! And no-one can argue against Glasgow’s pair of Discoballs…..
The SECC ain’t a good venue either….though I did go see Madness there in 2006…but the Barras would be the ultimate in terms of a Madness gig….
