Madness V Aztec Camera

Hi CB

If I may I just thought I’d share this little tale with you as I think its quite interesting (well I think so anyway!).

Back in 1988 I was 14 and absolutely besotted by a young girl of my age who lived on my street. There were a few rivals for her affections so I had to try and have my wits about me to impress her! Anyway, one day she let slip that she really liked the song ‘Somewhere in my heart’ by Aztec Camera which was out at the time. I quickly saw the opportunity and offered to buy it for her with my paperboy wages the following Saturday. She was chuffed to bits with this and I was very pleased with myself too. Come Saturday I head off to the local ‘Our Price’ to buy her the record and hopefully buy my way into her affections! However, once I arrived there I saw your single ‘I Prounounce You’ which I’d been meaning to buy for a while. This was a dilemna. I could only afford one record so I did what any 14 year old boy would do and bought the Madness single. When I saw her later that day she told me she was looking forward to her new record and we could listen to it at her house that eve! ning. It was at this point I realised I’d made a mistake. When I told her I’d bought another record and Aztec Camera would have to wait another week she could barely disguise her sadness (even though she did like your record too). To cut a long story short I quickly fell out of favour and not long after she left the area and I’ve not seen her for 20 odd years. However, if I’d only given ‘I Pronounce You’ another week things could have been so different!

Sorry for the long email but I just wanted to show that being a Madness fan can change your life!

Cheers

Dear Herbert
How sad. Have you seen “Submarine”?

Probably right up your street..

Also did you play her our song? She might have liked it.

She did like your song CB, however I think it was more to do with the fact that my music would always come first!

Thanks for the clip – I’ve not seen the film yet but funnily enough I read a review of it only last week and its down on the old ‘to do’ list to see! Apparently the soundtrack provided by Alex Turner of Arctic Monkeys fame is supposed to be very good too.

    Cheers
    Herbert
