new album cover

hi chris,
when i was a kid i won the ‘design a stage set’ competition (issue 7 nutty boys mag). i ended up becoming a graphic designer. that stage set is still the only work i’ve done that has received any accolades. anyway, i was in the kitchen making a cuppa and it occurred to me that an idea for the next album cover would be a madness version of sgt pepper. The cut out people could feature influences like brian ferry, alex harvey, max millar, judge dredd, smokey robinson, prince buster to name but a few. i would argue that madness are as loved in britain as the beatles and probably by many of the same people so it sort of seems like it could be a good idea – anyway, thought i’d share it. back to my drawing board now.
cheers! si.

Dear Si
Great idea. But it will get compared to Sgt Peppers all the time. Where’s the stage set? You might as well do a new one for us as well. I’m glad to see you went on to greater things.
all the best CB

    hi chris,
thanks for the reply and glad you liked the idea – although i have to admit you’re probably right. it’d be too much like a tribute to a tribute. also, gawd only knows why i put judge dredd in there not to mention omitting ian dury?

the stage set is posted in my blog here: http://my.opera.com:80/patesy/albums/

it would be great to know if you ever actually saw it at the time.

i’m taking my wife to see suggs tonight at the theatre royal – really looking forward to it.

    all the best,
    si.
