Hi Chris
Long time no questioning…
I was wondering:
1) We’re there any 12″ mixes commissioned for One Better Day (or Victoria Gardens for that matter) or Ghost Train? As a band that seemed to participate in this genre – and do it well – it seems odd that these missed out once the routine had been established. (Actually I suppose there’s quite a few singles prior that didn’t get the treatment either!)
2) I don’t know how it would work with licencing, etc. but would some mp3s/uncompressed files of additional material released around OSB be any use to you guys to pass to the masses? (I can get you the full length 7″ of The Prince, Bed & Breakfast, the additional part of the OSB 12″ and what I presume is the promo mix of Don’t Quote Me On That – in this case on the b-side of a German issue of Night Boat to Cairo!)
Dear Mike
I think there was one for “Victoria Gardens”, not much point for “One Better Day”, it’s not that sort of song. I don’t think there were any for “Ghost Train” . We did a great demo of it, though. The mp3s? hmm..try contacting Union Square records, a guy called Steve Bunyan tell him I sent you..

Victoria Gardens was definitely remixed because it was on the One Better Day 12″ single. I think the sleeve notes for Keep Moving suggested that the band wanted the former for the single. Again, it was suggested that Dave Robinson wanted the latter. No reason was given, but I’ve put two and two together and come up with the conspiracy theory that DR wanted Suggs back on vocals after Carl had taken the lead on Michael Caine. One Better Day as a remix? Not for me. A great, great song that can not be improved.
