Hi Bud sorry to be moaning at you so soon in the year but can you tell me if there were any problems with the Edinburgh hogmanay gig ( I think I must be the only one moaning about it and it has taken me a wee while to work out what to say cos I absolutly love you guys and never thought I would be giving you grief about anything sorry ) because you seemed to come onstage late ( 23.35 ) and finished very early ( 00.43 ) when the concert was advertised to go on to one o clock and it was just a very basic greatest hits set you played and was a great let down to me,reviews of the xmas tour mentioned early tracks which I was really looking forward to hearing ( ernie, tarzans nuts, on the beat pete, etc ) and you could have easily played four or five more tracks in the time alloted, it was also not recorded as you promised by concert live so noone could buy a copy, even the merchandise was total crap ( just the stuff left over from madstock ) so I couldnt even get a prog
ramme or a badge ( I am now going to have to pay more than it cost from retro-madness to get a copy as I collect them ) I have to say I was really unhappy with the whole concert as I have saw you many times in the past and I know what you guys can do and how good you can be when you are not just going through the motions ( a you seemed to be that night )maybe you can tell the fans in future when you are just going to do a greatest hits set so we can save our money for the better gigs ( bearing in mind that this was the most expensive ticket in the whole tour and I could have saw you for a lot less money elswhere ) if ther were any problems which caused this I would really like to hear them as I dont want to tarnish my memories of you lot but this has done so a little bit ( even the support band the were on stage longer than you were )cheers Terry B fae Kirkcaldy
Dear Terry
We went on a bit late as Thommos sax was left behind. The band decided to do the Greatest Hits as it was New Years Eve, a big party I suppose. Programmes I don’t know anything about. You can’t really add the Hogmany one to your collection if there was no Hogmany programme surely? I didn’t know we would be on and off so quick but they tried to get us off at 11.45 to do the count down and I recall us still playing right up to 11.55 as the guy was really panicking I was watching a TV screen which was counting down to the fireworks. I also think the whole show was running a bit late. Next time come to a regular show. So far you are the only complaint but I have not answered anything for 4 months and there may be a good few more.
Please accept my apologies CB
Terry
What you have to understand is that this gig was for “johnny Public” so there is no point in playing “classic” album tracks that they wouldn’t know, the band have to perform to the audience that is there, the xmas tour was a classic and was for the geniune fan
Totally disagree Terry ! ..As CB says it was New Yrs eve ( For Madness & their families also ! ) I didnt expect it to be the usual. I dragged my husband along for his first Madness concert & he loved it …the ony negative comment I made to him was the cold ( minus 8 ) did dampen down the movement so the atmosphere wasnt as crazy as it usually is ( I go to many many Madness gigs every yr )but the boys can hardly be blamed for the cold !….not sure your thinking straight here it was New Yrs Eve ….things are bound to be different but for me the venue, setting, songs and the fact it was new yrs was just magical ! Chrissy I sincerely hope you play again this new yrs eve & where ever it is I for one will def be there .
